Personality & Traits

General Overview Finn is a true mix of his parents. He inherited his blue eyes and red hair from his mother along with the clich├ęd temper. From his father he inherited a love of science and exploration as well as a bit of Betazoid sensitivity.

He has always excelled in school, when he wasn't in trouble for fighting, especially in anything related to almost any science. He has a good working knowledge of most areas of science from biology to chemistry, warp theory to metaphasic shielding, but his true passion and strength lies in languages and linguistics.

Finn's telepathy is extremely weak. It allows him to hear and be heard by other telepaths in his immediate vicinity if he focuses on it, but little else. He has a bit more empathy, but again it is generally limited to broad impressions of those in close proximity. Somehow the two have combined though to give him an uncanny ability to understand, learn, and analyze languages. By the time he was ready for university studies, Finn already knew twelve languages just from interacting with the few alien visitors his colony world attracted. No matter how dissimilar or foreign, he could pick up the basics of a language in hours. He could be speaking like a native within just a few days. He even invented a language for fun which he ended up teaching to his siblings.

He kept to himself much of the time as most of his classmates found him odd. He got into more fights than both his other siblings combined. He has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and stood up to anyone he felt to be in the wrong no matter how bad the odds of his winning the fight were. That has made him one of the few scientists out there who is just as comfortable throwing a punch as running a gas chromatograph.

History

Personal History Finn grew up on an icy colony world at the edge of Federation space where it bordered the Breen. The colony wasn't particularly large and focused on mainly agriculture and agricultural research for arctic environments. Both his parents were researchers there. He grew up admiring them for the work they did and the way it helped others. He wanted to do that with his own life.

When he was old enough, Finn applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted. He left home for the first time to travel all the way to Earth and begin his own adventure. That turned out to be a lot more easily said than done. Finn clashed with professors and fought with other students. He was disciplined more than once, but always managed to keep himself from being expelled, due largely in part to his remarkable ability with languages. If he'd been a bit less abrasive and aggressive, the diplomatic corp would have snatched him up. As it was, he was on the fast track to being scientist, linguist, and comms officer.

That was before the Federation betrayed him. At least, that was how Finn saw it. The Breen began a phase of expansion. They claimed that Finn's home world, along with several others, was rightfully theirs. The Federation negotiated a treaty which ended up ceding several world, including Finn's home, to the Breen in exchange for other concessions on the part of the cold-loving aliens. The concessions, in Finn's mind, were meaningless and irrelevant. The Federation had written off his home. He received a hasty message from his parents stating that they were evacuating in advance of the Breen arrival. Things were chaotic, and he wasn't able to get in touch with them again. All he knew was that they were going to try and find his mother's brother, Uncle Quinn, who at last report had been prospecting on the outskirts of known space based out of Heg'La Station.

Finn resigned his commission immediately after graduating, citing the fact that he no longer felt he was a Federation citizen, and headed off in search of his family.
Service Record Finn has worked several runs as a comms officer and an engineer's mate on various freighters heading out from the Federation core worlds.
