Taking a break from school he traveled home and for the first time in his life contemplated giving up the Starfleet life when he held Sarah, his new sister, for the first time. It was love as first sight and he couldn't imagine loving someone as much as he loved that little girl. He loved and cared for his other siblings but from the get go this relationship was different.

Two years later, a discussion with other sister Megan, he made the decision to return to the Academy and finish his training. She argued that when Sarah got older he would be in a better position to take care of her, if necessary, if he had a career. She vowed to watch her little sister as if she were Nathan. After some soul searching he agreed.

When he was twenty seven he graduated from academy in the middle of his class. His performance was exemplar however, his constant absences to take care of his family did not go unnoticed. His first posting after graduation was on the USS Galileo, a luna class vessel. The assignment ended up being dream.

Nathan became an expert on the sensor array with in the Luna Class. His expertise soon become known by the Starfleet Corp of Engineers and his ten year tenure on the USS Galileo ended as he was transferred to Utopia Planitia where he would remain until he transferred to the Academy to teach.
