Born barely 30 years after the founding of the Federation, Carter joined Starfleet as a fresh-faced rookie knowing very little about spaceflight or exploration. Over the years since, having served on various different types of ships in a multitude of different scenarios, he now sits as one of a few veterans of the 'old guard' of Starfleet explorers, used to the early expansion of the Coalition of Planets and their first few encounters with alien races.
Over time he has taken numerous leaves of absence, rarely keeping to one assignment for long. In the latter stages of his career he has felt a need to mentor many of the newer fleet officers coming through, hoping that his years of experience will help the next generation of explorers. |
