The smells coming from the other side of the shared quarters were enough to wake an animal in deep hibernation. Satun had smuggled what remained of her life on Romulus everywhere she had gone since the supernova had destroyed what had been a proud people. In her corner, she focused intently on her sizzling skillet over the heating pad.

As her Romulan ears picked up the sound of her roommate beginning to awaken, Satun looked up. “Good morning,” she called out at a hangover-safe volume. Holding up her skillet, the Romulan explained, “A recipe handed down for ages. Guaranteed to handle the worst hangovers.”

Indigo could smell the food in her dreams. She stood helping her mother prepare a meal to break the hunger that she had been feeling since she had been jolted from her sleep. She could smell the goodness in the air and it made her blink the image of her mother gone.

Her eyelids felt like they were made from lead. So much so she could hardly open them and even then her eyesight was blurry. Her head lurched with sudden pain as she shifted to sit up. For fuck sake, it even hurt to move. She had not drunk that much. She felt like she was going to be sick but quickly swallowed the excess spit in her mouth and attempted to work out what was going on. “What ya cooking?” She demanded.

“Three egg omelet, Romulan style,” Satun replied with no hint of what exactly Romulan style was. It had more to do with the seasoning and preparation than it did with the content. “The eggs are from a bird that used to be only found in the Chula valley before it was relocated, the melons are from Gal Gath'thong, and Human toast,” Satun explained as she used her spatula to point at each one. Shrugging a bit, she laughed, “Humans do toast the best.”

Looking back toward her roommate, the Romulan genuinely asked, “How are you feeling this morning?”

Indigo shook her head at the silly question that the woman always asked but answered it either way. “Like I do most mornings Sat. You should really find a new question for this time in the morning.” Indigo shrugged offering a grin to the older woman as she finally shifted down from her bunk and looked at the creation. She giggled every time that she imagined what the captain and other Fenris Rangers would say with the set up the pair had. “Smells good though. You treat me very well when I am such a poor roommate waking you up.” She admitted sniffing the air as she came closer finally. She stretched her arms over her head trying to get the knot out of her shoulder from sleeping on it.

Not able to help herself, Satun stared for a moment at her stretching roommate. Shaking herself out of her trance hopefully before she was discovered, the Romulan turned her attention back to the food. The look of it told her that it was just about ready to eat. “When you find someone who’ll save your life and give you a job, you treat them well,” Satun laughed.

With a little smile of anticipation of the food, Satun quickly turned off the campsite burner before the Captain called them out for contraband. She then replicated two plates and forks to place the food upon as she said, “Can’t carry everything in a travel bag.” The Romulan then handed over Indigo’s plate and added, “Eat up.”

"I am very surprised you have this in a travel bag." The young woman said grinning, she got away with a lot but Satun would not. She had been there when the woman had been unpacking and it was like the old Mary Poppins film and the never-ending bag. Indigo took the plate and sat back on a chair starting to eat some of it experimentally before she tucked in when she knew it was safe. “Yes, Ma'am. You might be able to domesticate me cooking like this. I could get used to it.” She teased.
