The Cure Is In You

The search for Petty Officer Halla Dezom was in its second hours and Alexis was growing more and more concerned as they moved through the complex and were not able to find any sign of her despite the extra crews and personnel now having arrived from the Hippolyte and Seacole, all who had dampeners as they were medical ships designed for this type of event.

“Major seriously how can we just lose an officer?” Alexis asked as they walked along the top lot of offices looking inside each one seeing nothing out of place. The colony must have been a hive of activity before people had gotten sick.

"We?" Levi echoed, an eyebrow raised.

Alexis was about to say something more when she looked up to see two of the Seacole security crewmen who had been assigned to the search stood in the doorway. “We found her walking outside Sir.” A Marine called as they came in escorting Halla who looked a bit confused about all the fuss as the three most senior officers looked at her.

“I went to clear my head for a few minutes. All the noise.” She said looking like she might cry at all the people looking at her.

“You have been gone hours Petty Officer,” Alexis revealed relieved to see her but concerned that she thought it was just a few moments.

"Easy." Christopher put a hand on Alexis' shoulder, urging her not to make more of an emotionally charged scene. "We were just worried about you, Chief. With everything going on, the camp is supposed to be in lockdown. Some of the marines have been a little fidgety, and we wouldn't want anything to happen to you."

Levi tilted his head at the remark about his men, but he couldn't argue. And he desperately wanted to take her aside and properly make sure she was okay, but he refused to bring their personal feelings into a work situation. He couldn't allow that.

"They think there might be something from Daucina that can help," Levi explained. "Thought maybe you might remember some things."

"I am fine. I just... being a telepath is hard. Heard a lot more than I want to." She admitted avoided everyone's gaze apart from Alexis. She was silent and easy to focus on. "Daucina?" Halla wondered with a frown. Of course, it would lead back to a mutated virus from another planet. "What has it got to do with that?"

"You found the cure." Alexis pointed out looking up at Christopher with his hand on her shoulder and raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah... sorry... um... give me a moment I will find the formula I used." Halla moved to sit down wrapping her jacket around her as she started to look through a PADD.

"Why is she only a Petty Officer." Alexis whispered watching the young woman. She was obviously a lot more than she seemed.

"The really smart ones don't want to be an officer," Christopher smiled slightly. The blockers were starting to wear off, and he was getting the dull headache again. The hand on Alexis' shoulder helped keep him upright as much as urged her to be calm.

"If you need a blood sample from me, you can take one," Levi offered.

Alexis looked at Christopher and put her hand over his realising how much he was struggling. **Its going to be okay** she soothed telepathically.

“I won’t need it.” Halla said distracted as she tried to focus and think of exactly what she had done that night. It was not often she showed the brain that she had underneath the facade of being a science technician. “There...” she held the PADD out with her personal log open for them to see where she had noted it down.

"Do we have any Medical or Science Officers still capable of working on this?" Levi asked, looking between Halla and the two senior officers present.

Alexis pulled her hand back as the other two looked at her intently waiting for answers from them. "We should do now that we have Hippolyte and Seacole crew down here." Alexis reminded with a shrug. "Or we can send it to the Cosmos." She said thinking there was now better communication now the weather storms had been stopped by Vriaral and the Engineers.

"What about you, Chief?" Christopher asked, looking at Halla. "You whipped-up a cure to a dangerous virus, under pressure, in an unfamiliar lab environment. Saved the Major's life, as I recall. And since that cure is the basis of this one, maybe you'd like to take the first look?"

"No Sir... Not me. I am really not suitable for any of that." Halla said handing over the PaDD. Alexis took in and watched as Halla quickly left the trio together holding the information that could bring an end to the nightmare they had all been facing.

"Well that was..." Alexis started but failed for words.

"I'll talk to her," Levi said sharply, following after Halla without another word.

Christopher shared a look with Alexis for a moment.

"I have no idea what that was about," he said with a shrug.

Alexis laughed at the shared look. "You really have no idea?" She asked as he shrugged at her and looked confused. "They are in a relationship and things are complicated." She giggled. It was easy to see with anyone who studied body language before sobering as she touched her temple in a gesture of sympathy. "Are you okay?" She wondered.

"And there I thought marines weren't allowed to have a heart," Christopher smiled. It was a tired smile, probably not as convincing as he would normally have wanted. "I'll be okay once we get that cure figured out and dispersed. Think we've got enough data to go on?"

“You do not seem the type to think marines are all wham bam thank you ma’am types.” Alexis commented nodding at the tired expression. She was feeling it her self and would be finding some simulates to get her through this final hurdle. “No idea I am sure a scientist will be able to tell us.”

"Not all of them," he sighed lightly. "All right. We can't do anything more until the medical team can get to work. We can let the Major and his young lady figure things out themselves in the meantime."

Alexis just snorted at him holding the PADD with the prized information close to her head to give to the closest senior medical officer she found. She was going nowhere nearly the Major and whatever was going on with the Trill. It was not worth it, she did not thrive on that type of drama. "I will get them to someone then. Some one who speaks smart." She wanted off this planet and the virus that had ravaged her people and the crew she was slowly thinking of as her people. No one deserved to be tortured by everyone thoughts all the time.

"Well I guess that rules us out." Christopher shrugged and headed back to their makeshift command post.

“Very much so. We just have to explain all of this to Ehestri who has to explain to joint fleet command.” Alexis said with a a sigh. She really did not envy that at all. Why she would never make it any higher.
