Mission: Mission 2 - Contagion
Location: Deck 7- Jeffrey tubes between Sickbay and Auxiliary Bridge
Timeline: MD03 21:23
1134 words - 2.3 OF Standard Post Measure

Jeassaho crawled slowly through the Jeffries tubes disgusted that she and the other female Engineer had been sent into the dirty space. She sighed in relief as she reached a junction and climb out standing up. She leant back down to the tube offering her hand to her companion pulling her out into the space.

"Can't believe they sent us." The Betazoid murmured with a dramatic roll of her eyes.

Janet looked over at the other woman as she stood up in the junction and stretched a bit. "Luck of the draw, I guess. It's not that bad, really. I've been in a lot tighter Jefferies tubes than these. Though not recently." She brushed herself off as she looked at the next tube, set at a forty-five-degree angle.

"The architects that built this thing sure loved to put these things in cockeyed, didn't they?" she said to no one in particular as she made her way to it, then prepared to climb inside. Just before starting up she stopped and covered her mouth just as she let out a sneeze.

"Sorry about that. Must be catching a cold." She pulled a handkerchief out of her pocket, wiped her nose, then put it away.

"Everyone seems to be catching it. Dixoho is struggling in Sickbay to breath with this bug that we have on board. You okay to carry on?" Jeassaho murmured, she had her own headache so she could relate. It was the reason that they had been sent "We have to check the Environment controls on our search of this deck for Talon." Jeassaho didn't like the thought that the Doctor had wandered off and gotten hurt when Dixoho needed Doctors.

"That's a good idea," Janet responded. "Do you think there's something in the air that's making us sick? Or maybe the water?" Thoughts of the Mary Rose drifting through space, her crew dead from some dreadful alien disease, flashed through her mind. She shuddered at the thought as she moved up into the Jefferies tube.

"I can't see it being the water. That system is completely different if anything it is the air purifiers. Who knows when they were last scrubbed out it more than likely was when this was a Federation ship." Jeassaho assured as she crawled after the woman. She didn't like the thoughts that she was feeling from the other woman but she wasn't the only one thinking that in the slightest.

Janet continued to climb the 'tube as she listened. "Yeah, you're probably right. I doubt it's in the water. Though maybe it might be; they have the same sorta filtration system, don't they?" She hadn't done much work on the water systems aboard, as there had been no need. She did know there were filters that had to be changed out. Those had a nine month lifetime, but with the size crew, the Mary Rose has she was sure that limitation was greatly extended.

"So you think something may be growing on the air filters?" Now those she knew something about. "They should have about thirty days left on them before we need to change 'em out. And I checked; at least the previous owner keep spares of those in stock. We have 'em to change out if we need to."

"I am sorry I didn't mean to imply that you haven't cleaned air filters." Jeassaho offered to the younger woman. She truly hadn't realized that anyone had even bothered to look at them, her time had been spent on areas like the Medical bay or in the general area of the Warp core making sure the Deuterium mix was okay and flowing through the anti-matter tanks.

"No big," Janet replied. "I used some of my downtime to do it. Didn't take much effort, and I kinda like to breathe." She gave Jeassaho a grin.

She reached the door to the next level. Bracing herself, she began to unlock the hatch. "You know, there's not much more up here except the pylon access. You don't think Talon would climb up in those, do you?"

Jeassaho paused and glanced up. "I don't think so. I can't sense anyone in this area apart from us." She assured, the one thoughts were Janet's in the general area. "But Ru... The captain told us to search everywhere just incase. He might have investigating." She wouldn't know why he would be up there but they should look.

"Gotcha," Janet replied, then triggered the opening sequence for the door. It sighed toward her as it unseated itself from its recess, then rose smoothly upward until it had cleared the doorway.

Janet looked at the room inside. about eight feet across, the round platform filling the bottom of the shaft that rose upward at a forty-five-degree angle to her right. Their ride up to the port nacelle. She spotted what she was looking for and strode into the room to stop at a console at the far side.

"Coming?" she asked Jeassaho.

Jeassaho stretched a little now she had some space. "I've got nowhere else to be." She said with a grin, it was an easy smile. The small Betazoid followed to the elevator and grinned more.

The elevator rose smoothly up the pylon. "So, where do we go from here? There's no way he's up here. He doesn't have the access." Janet asked.

"Who knows where he is but you know people on this ship don't actually follow their access controls properly." It had been a culture shock for the Lieutenant Commander to be on a ship like this but to have a crew as undisciplined as it was. Engineering felt like the only department with any type of command structure and she would cling to that familiarity for as long as possible.

The lift slowed as it neared the top, then slid to a gentle stop. "You're right. Though some of the engineering lockouts you would need some decent access to crack. But those aren't the..."

Her voice stops as her eyes registered what she was seeing. The door had slid open to reveal the body of a Bajoran laying on the floor, unmoving, dressed in the blue of Medical. "I think we found Doctor Joss, Jeassaho." The quaver in Janet's voice was unmistakable.

Jeassaho moved past the younger woman putting a reassuring hand on her shoulder as she did. The small woman knelt on the floor and calmly touched her fingers to his neck. "I think we found his body." She whispered softly looking back at the woman. It looked like this search wasn't going to have a happy ending after all.
