Gregnol sighed and rubbed his eyes. It was late but he could not put the conversation off at all. He wanted to catch Jake but the man had been a ghost all day, which was to be expected with different shifts to manage the ship. It just made the conversation they needed to have difficult which meant he was pressing the door chime and hoping the man was awake still.
"Reub...Captain?" Jake was weary as he answered the door, pushing the sleep out of his own eyes.
“Sorry to wake you.” Gregnol said looking at the man and the way he looked tired. They had a few days till they got to Allhallows so hopefully the man would take the opportunity to catch up on sleep if the armoury department was in good upkeep which he suspected it would be- Delaney was a force of nature. “Got time for a drink?” The man said holding up a bottle of Betazed ale.
"Always. Come on in." Jake motioned him inside. "Cassie's on shift so was trying to grab some shut-eye. Not that I was succeeding much." he grabbed a pair of glasses and set them on the table near the bottle. "What's on your mind?"
“And you can’t sleep with Cassie here?” The older man teased a little as he set about going through the familiar routine of pouring betazoid ale into the glasses. He lifted his own and took a sip with a small smile. “Wait is she living here properly now?”
"Eh...I guess that kinda did happen, yeah." Jake scratched his head. It had just 'happened' after a while. It made sense, living on the same ship had basically become living in the same room. "Anyway, carry on."
Gregnol just chuckled a little and indicated the chairs around the table and plonked himself down into one. He glanced around a little more taking in the subtle changes from the last time he was in the room and sighed. “Armoury… I think armoury now that I have medical sorted is our cursed position.” He sighed.
"And I guess even more important now that we're more formally associated with the Rangers," Jake nodded. "Did Delaney decide she wasn't up to it or something?"
“I have not offered it to her. I am offering it back to you as you are the one I want there and the one I know can handle the personalities that we have onboard and dealing with the demands of the ship. Nothing has been right there since you left. I should have just made the role due purpose.” The man admitted. He was not afraid to admit that he had messed up badly when it had come go the armoury department. The department had been like a merry go around since.
"Sure." Jake shrugged a little. It seemed a little harsh on some people, but the role had been a bit of a revolving door anyway. "Liha will probably tell you it's a gross mistake but we'll come to an agreement. Do you have anything else in mind? More recruitment?"
“Liha is an engineer.” Gregnol said simply. Not dismissing her opinion but it was not her area of expertise. “I could have gotten one of the Fenris Rangers to come over but it seems pointless when the man was already there and knew the role. “More recruitment and seeing where the rangers are needed. They are want us to go pick up Indigo as she’s been off doing something by herself.”
"All right, all right," Jake shrugged. "I'll make sure things are covered off. We'll be stopping off to replenish supplies after all this, right?"
“Now that we are free of refugees yes. The baby seems to be our only guest still until we figure that out more.” Gregnol admitted with a shrug. He was not sure how long that was going to last, he was waiting for Jaxx to confirm he wanted his Starfleet contacts. “We need a lot of supplies.”
"Makes sense, we could probably do with a re-stock and a vacation, right? I think Cassie talked about wanting to get away for a while too. Something relaxing after nearly getting shot-up by Orions."
“Do I dare ask how she is doing after being hit by a bow and arrow?” Gregnol knew that she was physically better but he was never quite sure how Cassie was really doing especially as he had seen that she had changed her name on the crew files back to McAvoy and was now living with Jake it seemed.
"It's Cassie. You know just as well as I do that she's not going to slow down, even if it's under medical instruction," Jake said with a faint knowing smirk. "I'm reassured that that was the worst of the injuries any of our people suffered in the end. It could've been a lot worse."
“It could have been indeed.” Gregnol dreaded to think of how much worse it could have been if they had not been so careful. But even so Cassie being hurt so severely in such an archaic way had been stunning.
