629 words - 1.3 OF Standard Post Measure
Jeassaho frowned as she sat inside the shuttle it was nostalgia at its best. She hadn’t ever seen one of these shuttles outside of the Starfleet Engineering Museum on Earth that her parents had taken her to as a child. She had been using the Taxi cabs as an excuse to avoid Rueben and Keera in equal measures, they were both desperate to talk to her but she still needed to adjust from no longer being in Starfleet at the very least being retired and freelance.
“If you are going to be stood there staring you can pass me the hypo spanner.” Jeassaho called out holding her hand back to figure stood in the open hatch. She stood bent over a console in a pair of blue overalls.
Winston had been floating about the ship in his usual manner. Unlike his ancient days at Star Fleet, his activity, when not piloting a shuttle was one of complete leisure. He did not mind it, enjoyed it as he got so reacquainted with his favorite mistress, the lovely bird of paradise, the Constitution. "Always a pleasure to oblige, if not to serve, my dear," the old said and handed with a bit of a lazy flourish. "So wondrous to take your time with one of those relics, tis not for the quick-minded. Heh, perhaps neither am I."
"Well seeing i don't trust the escape pods i would like to make sure these work." She didn't want to add that she didn't trust that Barton when he had purchased the ship had made sure these were working order let alone escape pods. Jeassaho stopped leaning over the console to get to something and turned to face the older man leaning back against the console.
Havelock turned his site down, not wanting to get caught admiring ‘the ship’. “Oh I would not worry about that my dear, these old cans are as good as new, I keep a close eye on them. Work a bit on them, though I am no engineer.” Winston walked a bit closer, “So what brings you to our lovely bird of paradise?”
Jeassaho drowned a little at the man. If he wasn't an engineer he had no place fiddling with mechanical items especially shuttles and escape pods. The damage control and Chief engineer in her wanted to cry in despair at the crew on her new him.
"You really shouldn't play with them unless you know 100% what you are doing." She commented on in a soft voice.
"Oh if ya don't tickle their insides a bit I doubt if you can get anything out of them, " joked Winston, though his expression became a bit at the end.
Jeassaho softened at his reply remembering he asked what brought her to this ship. "My past." She said gently. It was all that she could explain it as.
Havelock's expression went from serious to paternal. "More than enough to say, m'girl, more than enough. But what do you hope to get out of those systems, they seemed to respond perfectly to me?
"Well your emergency systems were fried which i am not surprised in the slightest because it was Barton who brought this ship." She sighed turned away again to close the console up. She lent back across sealing it up before she turned around again eyeing him. "But it is all fixed now."
"Excellent I look forward to flying her, Winston mused. "Do let me know the next time you go out, I would like to try that sled with you at the helm." Jeassaho just rolled her eyes and nodded, this was certainly going to be an interesting ship.
