Mission:
Mission 10 - Temperance
Location: USS Temperance, Lounge
Timeline: MD 09 14:45
1267 words - 2.5 OF Standard Post Measure
Kea was sure this was the best deal he had ever gotten. Help some women get to the lounge area, rescue some booze, and have a bottle of his choice as a reward for it. Not a bad deal at all, and the ship had to have had some good aged stuff by now. "So how come you got the Russian to agree to this?" he finally asked his burning question.
"Promise of real alcohol, the possibility of real vodka... he is Russian after all," Dodian said with a smile. "I know how to leverage people to get what I want, like you coming for that bottle of your choice. All people have motivational buttons, Mr. Kea," she added, whilst looking over at the rather quiet Romulan.
"And here I thought this was a secret mission," Liha joked. "Personally, I'm just hoping there's some actual booze and not just the kiddie drinks on most Starfleet ships. Though I did get a request for synthohol."
"A good bar always has a stash of the good stuff somewhere, where as in my bar we are the opposite. We have a stash of synthohol somewhere. I'm not a fan of that stuff. No one just gets drunk anymore," Dodian replied, looking genuinely a little sad at that.
"You are aware that the Russain has a huge stash of booze, right?" Leiddem half-joked. "He is never tempted by the possibility of anything. Cool as ice." Now that’s a lie. He knew the man's weakness, but he would not reveal it to the group here. "And there is nothing secret about a mission involving alcohol." The former Marine glanced around the door to the lounge and saw that it was in a state, furniture upended, and a few skeletons that had not been moved yet, but nothing still moving.
"Eh, synthohol is only good for making improvised explosives," Liha replied to Dodian. "But that's what I expect was the reason for the request. Burnie usually isn't that interested in alcohol for any other reason anyway." Her mouth went slightly sideways. "But I am surprised we don't have more in the party. Unless people collecting other things have already raided the booze."
"Place has not exactly been off-limits, but it would be noticeable if loads of people brought stuff back." Leiddem had not noticed a lot when he had been on gangway duty.
A small creature darted between their legs and into the upset lounge. The size of a cat, it was a bipedal reptilian with a low profile and small arms. A long claw on each foot tapped the deck plating as it darted over to the skeletons, sniffing at them. Then it grabbed a femur in its jaws and tugged, sending the entire skeleton clattering to the floor before the powerful jaws cracked the bone open.
“I have never understood your Federation synthohol,” Jinx said as she joined the others, pushing her red hair from her tattooed face. “Isn’t the whole point of alcohol getting drunk?” She peered into the lounge. “So this is the Great Festhall?” she asked.
"You and me both," Liha agreed. "But the point isn't getting drunk - it's relaxing, unwinding a bit. Actually getting drunk let's your guard too far, and that's practically inviting trouble." She looked around the lounge, which had clearly seen better days. Half the chairs were upended, glasses and dishes scattered the floor, and the bar area itself had obviously taken a good shaking from whatever weapons had pounded the ship. "Great Festhall might be over selling it," she remarked dryly. "But if there's anything worth drinking left, it should be back there.” She pointed to the bar.
“We’re among friends,” Jinx said. “Comrades. What better place to get drunk without fear?” she asked. Granted, she barely knew most of the people on the Mary Rose. But the Spirits didn’t warn her about any of them.
“Zambi!” Jinx called the raptor back to her. They seemed to have a conversation in her native language, which seemed to involve some clicks and whistles. “Seems to be safe,” she finally spoke back in Standard to the others. “And there does seem to be firewater back there.”
"I have seen all types over the years, from people who drink to forget, to numb, to unwind, but there are those who just drink to get paralytic, and at that point they find themselves getting a shuttle home, or in our case now carried back to quarters,." Dodian interjected as Jinx spoke. "I would say this place may have skeletons in the closet, but I can see that they are quite well displayed out in the open." She pointed to the side at what Zambi had been amongst moments ago.
"Cannot say I have carried any of you home," Kea commented with a wink in the general direction of everyone as he moved across to look out the grime covered window to get a proper look of the ship. He stood there for a few moments before chuckling.
Liha meanwhile had begun evaluating the selection. 'The only thing I'm carrying out of here are bottles," she said as she began placing some of the more potent liquors into the carrier she'd brought for the occasion.
"That is good to know, as you will be pretty heavy with all that booze," Lieddem teased as he chucked a few bottles in the pile to take back to ship. It would have been quite a nice lounge if it was not for the bodies scattered around.
Dodian looked at the dusty bottles and packed some in her own bag. Some unique ones, even a Romulan ale that sat under the counter stuffed down the back of something. She heard Kea laughing at something and walked up next to him. "Penny for your thoughts? As you Humans say," she said with a smile.
"I am not Human, but I was just chuckling at the figurehead that Barton stuck on the ship. We have been through hell and back, and that thing has stuck headfirst there as it if it belonged there." It amused Kea no end to know that Barton still stubbornly stuck around to annoy Reuben.
Jinx had disappeared behind the bar to help get bottles. “Hey, I think I found something,” she commented. “There’s like a hidden panel in the floor.” She jiggered something, and the hatch slid back, revealing a hidey hole. “Huh.” She started to pull items out and line them up on the counter. There was a sealed container of what looked to be some kind of dried fungus, some bottles of pills, and a long, black ebony case that, when opened, revealed several hypospray vials of some blue liquid that sort of glowed in the dim light. “Wonder what all this is,” she mused, holding up one of the vials.
"Either the ghosts have a habit, or the bartender here had a side hustle," Liha remarked, glancing at the stash. "Or they distrusted Starfleet doctors even more than I do."
"Let’s just take it back to the ship. We can investigate it there," Lieddem mused, looking at it, confused. He was no scientist, but hyposprays should not glow.
"Looks pretty cool," Dodian admitted out loud. "Everyone needs a little side hustle," she added with a little smile as she finished packing up.
