Indigo yawned as she walked into her quarters and sighed as she saw her roommate asleep on the bottom bunk. She was no good sneaking around when she had a few onboard especially when she feeling as depressed as she was that night.
“Shhhh.” She whispered to herself as she stumbled into the desk area and looked at the screen. It was empty as usual, no messages for her, no summons – nothing. It was normal but it did not mean she liked it if they wanted to get hold of her they could have.
"Are you shushing yourself for my sake," came a voice from one of the bunks in a bit of mock thankfulness. That was the one unfortunate thing about Romulan ears, they could hear much better than their Human counterparts.
Indigo whirled around on her chair and looked at the bottom bunk and sighed. "Yes. I was hoping to not wake you." The blue hair woman admitted. She was trying to be a good roommate seeing she finally had one.
"I'm a light sleeper, so don't worry about it," the Romulan added. Nodding to the blue haired woman, Satun asked, "Did you have a good time?" Being a Romulan, the question probably sounded like the beginnings of an interrogation. In reality, she was genuinely curious. She was having a bit of trouble settling in and was giving socialization a try.
Indigo nodded before she grinned wildly. It was a good night, she enjoyed just mingling with people. None of them were the same and none of them overly knew each other than a few of them that the Captain kept onboard. "I really did." She admitted grabbing the blanket from her bed wrapping it around her. She was intrigued to see that Satun was talking to her. "How come you did not come?"
“Everyone gets quiet around me,” Satun replied. Maybe it was because she was new, or maybe it was the whole pointy ears mixed with the forehead ridges. She suspected the latter as most people suspected Romulans of dishonesty and treachery.
"No idea why." Indigo mused. She never had that issue, she could never get her crewmates to shut up but being one of the only humans onboard did that sometimes. They all had opinions on how or what she should be.
"I don't know," Satun stated. "Maybe it's just my imagination or some instinctual Romulan paranoia that's ingrained in all of us," she mused, even though she considered that there may be some element of truth behind it. "Where are you from?" she asked, trying to get to know the woman before her.
"Well if I am sat there you have full permission as my roomie to come jump in and sit down next to me" She knew the Romulan paranoia well but she had hoped that it would less on this ship but it seemed to not be at all for any of them. "Freecloud. I was visiting home when I met you." Indigo admitted with a lopsided grin.
"You're from Freecloud?" Satun asked. Explaining her question, she added, "I never knew anyone to be from there, just people who found their way there."
“It is a big place.” Indigo laughed wildly spinning the chair around. “My parents were hackers for Starfleet and ended up there.” It was a simple explanation of her life without the drama.
“Good place to make a living mining for information,” Satun nodded. Her roommate was clearly under the influence of whatever she had been drinking. It made her think back to interrogations she had been part of in the past. This would be when she would offer some strong Romulan Ale and press for the big questions. But that was not her life anymore. “What brought you here?”
"Stumbled into a mess and wanted to help." She said with a shrug as her spinning stopped and she looked at the woman with a grin. "It is a good place without mining for information. It really underneath it all a good place. I am not worse for wear for growing up there." She knew she had some quirks but she was not unkind or callous.
"Glad to hear that there is still good out there," Satun replied, a little more somberly than she had intended.
Indigo sighed and moved from her chair to climb under the bunk. She quickly squeezed the older woman before she could react. "I do not choke people for just anyone." She pointed out.
Still not completely used to the need for a reassuring touch, Satun fought the urge to recoil. Still, the intent made the Romulan feel welcomed and valued. “And I appreciate that,” she almost laughed.
She was lingering to long, the edges of embarrassment began breaching the hug, the point where her need was abated likely past, the embrace was subsisting on her drive alone to give someone a hug. She lessened her grip some, allowing her to drift from her whenever she felt inclined to do so. "Well, I did save your ass so we could fight him off together." Indigo mused wondering if she really had just got a laugh from her.
"You did," Satun replied." Slipping out of her seriousness for a moment, the Romulan added, "And it was certainly an ass beating." Not being used to hugs, she took a moment to try to break away without pushing the other woman away. "Are you alright?" Satun asked genuinely.
Indigo let the woman go and nodded at everything she had said. It had been an interesting day and she had not been looking to save someone or recruit her but it had just happened despite her best intentions. It had taken weeks to heal from the bruises and aches. "Course I am." The blue-haired woman quickly assured. "Just a little buzzed from the alcohol."
“Time to get some rest,” Satun returned, not one to take advantage of the inebriated at this point in her life. “I have a famous hangover breakfast that’ll do wonders for you in the morning. Let’s say I owe you one.” The Romulan stood to stretch for a moment.
Indigo smiled at the woman as she moved away from the affection that the blue-haired woman freely offered and stood herself. She did not need to stretch but she did need to climb up to her bunk and that needed a few moments to compose herself. "I will be fine in the morning." Indigo was not one to drink herself silly, she was just buzzed.
Before settling into her own bunk, Satun started to reach her hand toward the other woman but hesitated. Shaking away the hesitation, the Romulan whispered, "Just be sure it's what you want. I'll be here." She allowed her eyes to admire her roommate briefly before laying down into her bed.
"Either way. Night." Indigo nodded watching the woman go back to sleep for a moment before she hauled herself up into the top bunk. One day she would get the bottom bunk and make this easy on herself. But today was not that day and tomorrow was not looking good for that option either.
