Location: Starbase 621
Timeline: 2396
1155 words - 2.3 OF Standard Post Measure

They had gotten coffee and then Alexis had started giving Jarrett a tour of what she had learned from the base when they had, had the bombing. She looked around as they arrived outside of an entertainment district.

“This is where the dodgier of the nightlife is.” She pointed out. "Ever been somewhere as big as a base." She wore her long hair tight in a ponytail which revealed a round, lively face. Big, round black eyes, set buried within their sockets, watch attentively as she looked around the bars and night clubs. It was like being back on Starbase 50 and she loved how familiar it all was.

Jarrett shook his head. "Not as an assignment. I was previously stationed on ships. So only as a resupply or brief respite stop." He followed her gaze and took in the sight. While there were a lot of flashy lights to attract people, there were also a lot of shadowy corners. It was easy to imagine shady deals going down in an area like this. He wondered if the people who watched them as they passed by were just noticing passersby or if they had other reasons to keep an eye on the two of them. "Compared to other areas, how often are we called here?" he asked to gauge the seriousness of her statement.

“If it is anything like my old stomping ground quite often. I used to make friends with the barmen and bouncers. Makes your life easier if they know you as friend willing to support them.” Alexis advised. “This place is still rebuilding you have that opportunity still. So what are your initial thoughts so far on all of it all?” Alexis wondered. She had loads but she had been there for the bombing aftermath and needed external thoughts not tainted by that.

Jarrett nodded thoughtfully when she commented about the opportunity not yet passed by. He'd be sure to visit on his own time and try to make friends. "The whole base is a lot to take in. I think I've got my work cut out for me. I'm hoping I haven't bit off more than I can chew by accepting my promotion upon arrival. Between getting to know the station, catching up on the bombing, and now your crew's incident, I think I will not get bored anytime soon. And it's only going to get more interesting," he said with a slight grin on his face.

Alexis had no doubt he’d be fine on a base. It seemed like he was jumping and rolling with the punches as they came and he had handled a senior team meeting with a task force commanding officer with ease. “Oh?” Alexis found herself asking as she saw the grin on his face.

"Yeah. I just recently found out I'm going to be a dad soon. It was unexpected, but it seems like most things out here are."

Alexis found herself smiling and glanced at his hand not noticing a ring or anything. “I did not realise you were married or anything," Alexis commented on, not that it mattered. It was what most people assumed from things. "But congratulations. Is she on board?" She suspected that she would be onboard. Not many people came out to the middle of nowhere for no one.

He shook his head as they continued along. "Nah, we're not. I was willing to change that, but she felt like the pressure that comes with feeling like we had to be married was counterproductive, so we're okay as we are. Maybe one day...we'll see." He smiled and accepted the good wishes. "Thank you. She is here, so we will get to really share in this new chapter together. It's both exciting and terrifying. But I understand that's natural."

“Now it explains so much why you look exhausted and this far from the hone worlds.” She teased just a little bow feeling like she knew him a bit better even if they were just exploring the base to get him used to the base a little. “It is natural. Marriage is a lot of pressure. Is she Betazoid?” She wondered thinking that it sounded just like her thoughts before she married and it had all been proven correct in the end with her divorce.

Again, he shook his head. "I look exhausted because I'm fast-tracking the Xenology course for the major players at this crossroads in order to get up to speed and perform my duties properly. There seem to be some fine nuances in the relationships between some of these cultures. As to your other question, she is half Vulcan/half Human. There are times when I'm the more emotional of the two of us," he joked.

Not wanting to focus on himself overly much, he turned the conversation back to the station itself. "I've been to the bomb site. Were you here when it happened? I'm curious about people's personal reactions. How did it affect them? How have they adjusted? Things like that."

Xenology courses, Alexis did not envy him at all. She hated studying like that. "I am sure you are not." She found herself giggling but followed his lead. "I arrived 30 hours after the explosion and conducted the investigation. People split into two groups like any disaster like this they either ran or became helpers."

He nodded, taking notes on the PADD he'd taken out. "What did the scene look like when you'd arrived?"

Alexis sighed and pulled out her own Padd. It would be easier just to give him access to her files and information. "There you now have access to the investigation, my records and anyone else who was involved in the investigation. I believe only Danrisa is the only one still on board. He is the bases Intelligence Chief." She commented on with a roll of her eyes.

It seemed he'd hit a nerve. Or perhaps she'd just answered this question already, many times over. Even so, he hadn't spoken to her yet. "Sorry, Commander. I've seen most of the reports but hearing someone speak it gives a deeper meaning. I find tone and posture complete the message words can only be a part of. I will look this over, but I may still have questions for you."

He was in the unfortunate position of coming in late. He would have better information if he'd been here when the incident happened. When everyone's accounts were raw and unanalyzed. He needed to talk to the security officers who had gotten those interviews. See if any of their instincts produced a lead. He stopped to look at Alexis. "Is there anything else you wanted to show me?"

"Nah I think I spot my Executive Officer inside one of the cafes. I might bother him and let you carry on patrol." Alexis commented on with a small smile. "I'll see you at the Halloween party tomorrow."
