Jeassaho looked up from looking through the bar and frowned at the sneezing that was coming from the corridor. She grabbed up the strongest whiskey she could find and held it up to the light, it was still good. Pouring herself a large measure she moved and sat in a comfortable chair curling up. Despite not technically being a senior officer not one person made a comment about her being in the ward room, she didn’t know if that was because she was being talked about or people just didn’t care.
“Bless you.” Jeassaho called the human blessing across the room as the person finally came in.
Finn dragged himself into the wardroom. He felt like death warmed over. He glared across the room at the person perky enough to hope he survived this rather than wishing him a speedy death. "I'll need it to offset this curse of a cold. That Kerellian, Herrom, back on the station may have had a beautiful voice, but he clearly carried the plague. Herrom my ass, more like Typhoid Herrom." He narrowed his eyes looking at the bottle. He wondered if there was anything on board strong enough to kill whatever had a hold of him.
Jeasaho smiled and shook her freed bottle at the man as she sensed him searching for something strong.
Grab yourself a glass. I will share Jessaho called mentally. She didn’t miss the fact he felt brighter than most of the crew apart from her brother and Tabitha. It was easy to her to see if despite how human he looked.
Finn blinked in surprise. The headache this hell-spawned cold had brought with it might later object to it, but right now he just wasn't in the mood to dredge up the energy to speak, let alone care. He grabbed at the mental straw. He'd always been the weakest mental voice in his family, except for his mother of course, but being focused on by a single person in a near deserted room on an almost empty ship in the vast blankness of space? He could handle that. He nodded as he grabbed a glass and sat, feeling a bit dizzy as he did. It really wasn't all that bad, but he's never liked being sick and was a terrible patient. How did you know? he asked as he held out his glass.
You feel a little brighter than most people... just a little spark. Half Betazoid? Jeassaho teased him a little and poured a more than healthy measure for him. It was easy for Jeassaho to talk with her mind to him, easier to express herself and her emotions. She didn't need to hold anything back from a fellow Betazoid or half Betazoid.
Finn nodded and took a gulp of the amber liquid. It burned going down, but thankfully left his throat a bit numb. Dad. Mum is human. He could sense her openness, but was still reluctant to open himself up like that. I got a bit of his ability, but mostly my mum's temper. You're full, yeah? He chuckled as he took another hit from his glass. He realized that this was a bit of an upside to all this telepathy stuff, he could keep drinking this clearly medicinal beverage while maintaining at least the semblance of being a civilized person.
Nothing wrong with human or being a little bit of a firecracker. I believe you might need it out here in the vastness. The pretty woman commented on turning to look at him intently. He was still closed off which was strange for a Betazoid but she didn't comment on it. If he didn't feel comfortable who was she to argue.
Finn nodded again. He couldn't really read that much off her, but he'd gotten good at interpreting the bits and pieces he could pick up. He could hear his father's voice in his head telling him he was being rude, still...it was a hard habit to break. He'd shared too much of himself in the past, sometimes with the wrong people. Sorry, he tried to project some gratitude for this stranger actually making the effort with him. I'm not a particularly strong telepath. When I used to meet other Betazoids, I kind of felt like I'd brought a knife to a phaser fight. I think I sometimes put up a few too many walls just to take some control.
Jeassaho just smiled sweetly over her glass as she down the last of the liquid in the glass before she poured another measure bigger than the last. “It doesn’t matter aloud or in our heads I will talk.” She finally said aloud. Her voice was just as ethereal as it had been in his head. “You keep your walls if you are comfortable it matters not to me.” She promised softly as she held up the bottle to him offering more of the strong liquid.
Finn took a bit more. "Thanks," he said, voice a bit scratchy. "And honestly, I think the problem is that they've been up so long, I don't know if I can just take them down. I haven't," he took another small sip, "I haven't seen my family in a while. My dad wouldn't put up with it, I promise you," he chuckled.
“I am lucky I have my brother on board but trust me you can have him.” She joked trying to help him relax and trust her. “Well when you trust the people on board more I am sure you will relax and learn to trust us like your family.” It was unusual for the woman to meet a Betazoid who was that up tight with walls that high and that thick that they didn’t open up to another Betazoid. But who was she to judge him when she was refusing to talk to Rueben when he had done what he had to keep her safe. He was giving her the space she wanted but at the moment she wanted the fuzziness that only moonshine could bring.
Finn flat out laughed this time. "I've never had anyone offer me her brother before." For half a second, he considered taking her up on her offer. He hadn't had a date in a while, but considering he didn't know the man, and he was fairly sure that she hadn't actually meant it that way, he let it go. "And I hope I do get to connect with people here. I've been ship-hopping just to catch rides in the right direction. That doesn't really build up what you'd call camaraderie. I want...a place to be, I think."
“See that much better the laughing instead of the complaining about sickness. Please take him. He is handy for two things shooting and fixing you up where you are hurt.” She said with a grin watching the look on his face as he considered her words. “We’ve only got each other.” She said in a small sobering way. Coming from a Starfleet vessel where she knew that every single person was reliable and had a job to do in every second of the day if something happened to Rosie was a complete culture shock to her but she was slowly coming around to the charm of it all. "What better place than a place called Rosie?"
"Well, I'd hope he'd be good for at least one or two other things, otherwise why would I want him?" Finn winked at her. "Of course, I'd also hope his sister wouldn't know much about those other things. And if she did, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want him either." It felt good to laugh, even if it did hurt his throat. It also started a little bit of a coughing fit. Now you've done it. First member of my new family I start to warm up to, and she tries to literally kill me with laughter.
Jeassaho shrugged her shoulder and grinned. Betazoid's were closer than close thanks to the openness, this man had never grown up in a fully Betazoid family he didn't know just how much they knew about each other, nothing was held back. What would the point be? "Ah well one less person to feed." She said lightly hoping he truly was okay.
"True," Finn agreed. "And whatever this is I've caught keeps making death look like a better and better option. But if I weren't around, who would you have to pawn your poor brother off to? You'll have to raise him yourself. Feeding him, walking him, seeing he gets his shots...wait...that's a dog, isn't it?" He raised an eyebrow. "Regardless. It's in your best interest to keep me alive, I'd say."He did appreciate her taking the effort she was taking here. He tried to crack open his defenses a bit. It was tough, but he though he succeeded just enough for that gratitude to show.
“I will tell him that but maybe you should get off to bed try and sleep it off?” She suggested kindly as she felt his defenses around his mind fall just slightly. Jeassaho just grinned at him and shrugged, Dog or Leiddem they both acted the same sometimes.
"Aye," Finn downed the last of the drink in his glass. He also switched over to Betazed's spoken language. "Thank you for...for all of this." This time he was sure the gratitude showed in his mind.
"Anytime I promise." Jeasaaho held her glass up in salute to him switching to Betazoid. It always felt strange to not speak Terran even around other Betazoids.
Finn smiled, though his head had started to throb again. "Hopefully this whiskey will help me get some sleep." He stood and took his glass over to the replicator to be recycled. "I look forward to sharing another drink with you as soon as I don't feel like death warmed over...and to meeting your puppy." He nodded to her again and headed for the door. She was probably right, he mused. A good night's sleep and he'd probably wake up feeling like his old self. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing was an entirely different issue.
