Samantha almost purred as she leaned forward. “That sounds like a challenge.”

“Maybe it is?” Melal replied wondered what was getting into her. She was never like that at all. Never flirted a day in her life. Her husband had pretty much fallen into her lap and refused to leave.

Samanta took the invitation and moved her hand along the woman's arm. She trailed her fingers up and across her shoulders to the women attractive neck. “I could figure you out.” She whispered as her eyes rested on the Trill’s lips.

Melal looked at the hand moving along her arm until she finally reached her bare neck. “You could.” The Trill whispered surprised at the fire that the hand moving across her created. This was wrong surely?

Samantha’s hand moved to cup Mel’s face as she leaned in and kissed her softly. She was drawn to the trill like a moth to a flame but she couldn’t bring herself to fight it and she didn't think the other woman could either anymore.

Melal jumped as she was back in the here and now stood staring at herself in the console panel. Why was she thinking about Sam of all people right then and there when she had a job to do let along happily married. She blinked confused rubbing her forehead as she looked at the damaged weather controller and the engineering team surrounding it. Her husband was somewhere in the team whilst she was there to monitor them and their biosignatures for when they needed to get out of the compartment due to the strains. It was not the best use of a biologist but it was something she could do easily but it left her time to daydream. She turned as she saw Asher stood there watching her. "How long have you been stood there?" She wondered.

A minute." He said quietly. "Long enough to hear you talking about someone named Sam. Who is Sam?" He asked, trying not to jump to conclusions. He didn't think Melal was the overly friendly type. She generally didn't flirt with people and Sam might just be some guy on the ship who only wanted people to call him by his first name . . .

Melal frowned and sat up a bit straighter. She had never lied about her confusion at the end of her previous marriage or that she had a very brief relationship with a woman before meeting Asher but she had no idea what had brought up that memory. “I did not realise I was talking aloud.” She stammered through.

"Ah," he said. Wondering if she was going to elaborate or if that was the end of the conversation. He took a deep breath and wrapped his arms around her momentarily. "Daydreaming?" He asked.

“Yeah. I was. Sam is the girl from Archimedes.” She just blurted out as she was enveloped by her. It was on odd position to be in having to explain the daydream.

"Ah," somehow that made him feel better. It wasn't another man she'd been dreaming of. "You feeling okay? You're not one to usually daydream at work are you?" Asher asked with a slight frown.

“No idea. I heard you guys talking about girls and it just got me thinking.” She admitted feeling a little ashamed about it as she pulled back red-faced and not looking at him.

"Huh," he said wincing as a headache seemed to be forming between his eyes. He rubbed the spot. "Well, I better get back to work. Don't run off with any imaginary men while I'm gone," he joked.

“My dear husband you are the only man for me.” She assured quietly. Did he doubt her so much that he thought that? She shook her head and watched him. “You have a headache? Let’s try and get checked over.” Melal frowned a little as she watched her favourite human stood there rubbing his head. She was meant to be tracking their bio signs for issues especially checking on the weather controller so this was in her remit. She grabbed up her tricorder and ran it over him before frowning. “Ash, how long have you been feeling like this?” She questioned.

"I dunno, a half hour or so? I was working and kept getting distracted and finally the pain made me lose concentration enough that I focused on it. It's not terrible, just annoying and throbbing." He let out a breath. "But I've been feeling distracted longer, like a day. I can't seem to focus on anything too deep or I find myself forgetting. And it's been so noisy in here, that hasn't helped."

“We need to go and see a doctor as it is not noisy in here, Ash. It’s deadly quiet.” She had been enjoying the silence despite how easy it made it to day dream. She took a deep breath and decided to just come out and explain to him what the tricorder had told her. “I am so worried about you as this tricoder is telling me parts of your brain are more active than they should be. Like if I looked at this I would have thought you were Betazoid.” Melal leaned over and stroked his cheek looking up at him. She hoped that he knew that despite her day dreaming about Sam that she loved him and only him. “We are going to figure this out.” She said firmly.

"Huh, okay. That's weird." He could see Mel was scared and nodded. "Lead on," if nothing else it would belay her fears. "I never mind getting poked and prodded. Is the doctor cute?" he teased.

Melal led the way along the corridor to where the rest of the group was but no one seemed to be free or look like they were affected like him. It was more than weird, it was worrying. Asher was human and humans should not have psilosynine as the main neurotransmitter, it was not normally produced at that level at all. Her husband always took the approach to joke and tease when he was worried but right then and there Melal did not want it. “Only if you like the colour blue and a man.” She told him with a roll of her eyes.

Asher grinned. "I mean the blue part doesn't bother me but I'm not rally into men other than manly bonding stuff." He loved teasing his wife, even when his head felt heavy and dull and there were hundreds of sounds of chatter around him that she didn't seem to be able to hear.

“Well do not tease me.” Melal said, turning away from him to try to concentrate as they moved through Betazoid patients that now are sedated and resting. “You love to tease the wrong way. Always have done Ash even with the spores you did that.” She sighed, wishing her thoughts did not keep straying back to Sam and the spores that affected them all and confirmed what she felt for Asher. What was she thinking about that? What was the connection?. “Why is no one free to talk with? Excuse me... are you medical?” She asked looking at Lakeland before she recognised him as a fellow scientist. “Sorry Sir.” She muttered.

"No worries, over there," Lake pointed to a different part of the room.

"Aww Mel, I'm okay. I feel a bit strange but I'm sure it's nothing to get all worked up over." He squeezed her hand and let himself be led away. "No more teasing, promise." He knew it got worse when he was stressed or worried but he hadn't realized what an impact it had on her.

“You are not alright Ash.” Melal muttered as she looked inside a large office. A young ensign looked up as the pair came through the doorway of what had been the office complex when everyone was well and was used as council space. “Are you medical Ensign?” Melal wondered trying to sound less annoyed than she felt at the moment.

“Yes I am medical how can I help?”She smiled at the Trill snipping at what she thought was a human and indicated for whomever was needing her assistance to sit .

“Something is wrong with him.” Melal said simply pushing him towards the chair.

"It's just a headache," Asher lightly complained. "And I'm hearing voices," he admitted. "Probably just overwork or some kind of weird alien cold. Maybe I'm pregnant," Asher joked with a chuckle. "Weirder things have happened."

Melal looked at her husband and shook her head. “If you are pregnant there would be so many questions from me.” Melal commented on with only a hint of humour. He was loyal and she trusted him a lot more than she trusted anyone else. The medical Ensign smiled softly but shook her head at his joking, voices in someone’s head were normally a trip to the counselling department for an appointment and potentially sectioned but she was more concerned that he maybe had an ear infection or something similar.
“Well, I would be interested in this myself and very concerned if it was pregnancy. But…” The woman frowned at the tricorder. “Lieutenant do you have any Betazoid’s in your family tree?”

"Nah, Human all the way back as far as I know. Unless there was one hiding int he wood pile that I don't know about. Why?" Suddenly a bit more interested than he had been moments before. "Is that why I'm hearing voices?" He wondered if that could be possible but then why hadn't it happened before?

Melal frowned more and used the PADD that she was still carrying to hit his shoulder annoyed that he had brushed all of her concerns off. She hated being the smartest person in the room but no one believing her.

“I would say so but you need to stay here. I need to get more opinions.” The ensign admitted. This way out of her league, first the virus affected the crew now something affecting everyone else it sounded like something out of a horror film. She just couldn’t let on to the other Yeo that she was scared. “Excuse me, Sirs.”

"Looks like I get to put my feet up for a bit after all." He offered his hand to his wife who he knew would probably worry herself to death. "You can stay if you want but you don't have to." He didn't want her to just sit and fret about everything either.

Melal sighed a little and shook her head sitting down stubbornly in a chair. “Asher, I have to stay as I am pretty sure I have the same symptoms.” She admitted thinking on the brewing headache and the distraction she had been feeling enough that had made her think about Samantha and the chaos that had happened there. She should not have even got involved. “Why I must have been thinking on Sam. It is embarrassing thinking on it all looking back.” She really did not want to talk on it but if he was growing more and more telepathic he would known soon enough.

"Why? You were under the influence of something. Besides, even if you had the tendency, it's not like it's something to be ashamed of. I grew up on a ship full of girls, I assure you that I have way more embarrassing things in my past. Just wait until you meet all my cousins. But, I'm sorry you're not feeling well." He patted his lap, offering her a seat if she wanted it.

The woman was bisexual she had no shame in that but it was the way she had thrown herself at the woman when she had Asher. She really had not cared who or what if she was honest. “I was very promiscuous wasn’t I.” She finally decided was the right choice of words as she took the offer and plonked herself on his lap wrapping an arm around him. “But every time you are my choice. Over and over.” She murmured softly trying to focus but the warmness of him being close was to much to ignore and she lap her head on his shoulder.

"You are mine too," He grinned as his chin rested on the top of her head. "You can have a girlfriend too if you want," Asher lightly joked although he really wouldn't have minded. "As long as you don't leave me." His arm closed around her, offering even more of the fuzzy relaxing feeling he thought they both craved in the moment.

The woman frowned and pulled back looking at him. Why was he saying that? She did not want that at all and she knew she liked women but she loved her husband. “I would not disrespect the vows we made.” She told him looking him deeply in the eyes almost as if she was searching for something. “I do not know if you are joking or not Ash. This telepathic stuff is making things a lot more open than we are used to. You have been far too hurt in the past to think that, that is what I want.” She sighed snuggling close again.

"I was mildly joking, but thinking about it, it really wouldn't bother me if you had a lady friend. It sure as hell would if you had a boyfriend. Isn't that weird? I never thought about it before until you mentioned Sam." He shrugged. "But I know you, and I know you were serious when you took your vows, so I'm not worried." Asher assured her.

Melal nodded. It was a conversation for another time she decided staying very quiet. This was certainly something new in their very new marriage that she was not sure she liked but she wanted to rest her head for a moment.

Asher watched her wondering what she was thinking. Unfortunately he couldn't control this new talent or focus it on one person. "Everything will be okay," he told her. "Everything is always okay in the end and since everything isn't okay right now then it's not the end, or something like that."

Melal nodded at his theory. It was simple in his head so much more than her own. This was not the end so whatever they were facing going forward was just leading toward the end. And he was right. It would be okay.
