Jinx groaned and curled up further in the blankets of her bed. Avalon’s head pounded, her mouth was cottony, and her stomach was threatening a revolt. Just how much had she had to drink last night? Jinx tried to remember. Everything was...hazy.

Then she sat up quickly with a start. Oh, no! She caught the sheet just before it fell below Avalon’s breasts and looked over. Angel Ramirez sat curled up in a chair across the room, shirtless, under a blanket. Ancestors, he was so gorgeous! But that just made everything they had done last night so much worse! Oh, ancestors! Jinx buried Avalon’s face in her hands.

“Don’t worry,” came Angel’s voice from across the room as he stirred, yawning and stretching out the kinks from sleeping in a chair. “Nothing happened. You passed out almost as soon as we hit the bed,” he told her with a wry smile. “I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed,” the security man admitted. “But my papa would remove my manhood if I wasn’t a gentleman. I slept over here.”

Jinx blinked, then looked down under the covers. She still wore her clothes from last night. She got a whiff of stale pot and booze and her nose wrinkled. “I’m sorry,” Jinx said apologetically. “I...I shouldn’t have...led you on,’ she said with embarrassment.

Angel waved it off. “Nothing a cold shower couldn’t fix,” he told her. Indeed, he looked remarkably put together as he stood up and tossed the blanket aside, standing there in just his boxer as he picked up his jeans to pull them on.

Jinx’s head swooned again. “I’ll just…” She stopped suddenly. “Be right back!”

Jinx darted for the head and slammed the door closed behind her before hugging the toilet and emptying out the contents of Avalon’s stomach. She took a few minutes to recover, then washed her face and emerged.

Angel offered her a cup of coffee, and Jinx groaned. “Bless you and your ancestors,” Jinx enthused, taking hot drink.

“And a little something for the hangover,” Angel said with a chuckle, retrieving a medical kit and loading a hypospray, pressing it to Avalon’s neck.

Jinx groaned and sank into a chair.

“Gotta go, hermosa,” Angel said. “On duty soon. And we have those Fenris Rangers coming over this morning, so it’s all hands on deck.”

Jinx blinked. Oh, right. “Thank you, Angel,” she said quietly. “I...I will see you later. I need to clean up for the meeting, too.”

Angel smiled and leaned down, kissing Avalon’s forehead. “I had a wonderful time last night,” he assured her. “And I do hope we can continue getting to know each other.” He gave her a wink, and left.

Jinx sighed and sagged down in the chair, cupping her coffee. That had been a close call. If she were in her own body, Jinx would never have given what happened a second thought. But he wasn’t interested in an alien woman half his size. He was interested in a hydroponics specialist of his own species. Would Avalon even be interested in Angel? Jinx didn’t know the woman that well. And in any case, would Jinx want her to be? This was all so confusing. She’d never had feelings like this for an alien before. How would it even work, when she was half his size anyway?

Jinx shook off the idea. It was preposterous. And...she had to throw up again.
