Timeline: March 2397
1015 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

Normally Gregnol would have come with booze but coffee at that time in the morning was all he was willing to have. He tried to share a meal a day with Jake but it felt like the busyness of the ship the last few days trying to deal with the fall out from the holoship had taken up free time and headspace but there, he was strolling across the mess hall towards the man.

“We have not caught up in days. Mind if I sit?” He declared already sitting down with his own tray. He was relieved that the food was decent especially when his nerves were frayed with trying to out surprise a telepath who was your wife and lived with you.

Jake shrugged and motioned to the seat opposite. He wasn't about to deny the Captain a chair at his table.

"You heard about Eden, then," Jake sighed, figuring that was what Gregnol would want to talk to him about. "What can I say? Guess she got a little freaked out by that holoship or something." It was close to the truth. In actual fact he was fairly sure their sudden argument had caused her to rethink things a lot more deeply. And he was no longer part of that. It was hard not to dwell on the mistakes, but he was here and she wasn't. "Sorry if our personal issues caused you a problem."

“Yeah… hard not to have heard it.” It was hard to not hear about him and Eden when he lived next door and the argument had been quite loud. If Jeassaho had told him to stay out of it he might have stepped in to stop it. “Not overly people willing to fly this thing are easy enough to come by and Liha is more than willing to do more of it until someone else can be found. Connie’s are unique in that respect that they bring up nostalgia for people.” He said wanting to move it on from the drama that was Jake and Eden. It had always been an odd pairing to him but who was the broody Russian married to a bright Betazoid to judge.

"You tried that newcomer? The one we pulled off the holoship?" Jake replied, taking a drink from his singular glass tumbler. "She seemed a little less prickly than Liha, and no doubt she has some skills."

"Which one?" Gregnol wondered thinking one of them had been almost like Eden in attitude being bright and breezy before he remembered the most silent of the pair. "Kali? The one that knows Burnie? I did not know she was flight, I thought she would have engineering like Burnie. That might not be a bad option. I will talk to her." He admitted thoughtfully. This was why he and Jake worked before that Uhin and himself they were complimenting of each other where the other had failings.

Jake nodded. "What about replacing Robertson?" he asked quietly. "Think Leiddem is up for that? What about that other girl...the Irish one. She seemed like she had her head on right."

"I want Angel," Gregnol said quickly. "I want to give him a chance. He has been loyal for the most part. Lei... Leiddem is my brother and I do not want a family in command of departments on my ship. Not because I do not want them or think they could do it quite the opposite. I just do not want to order them into dangerous situations" He would have scoffed after the last few days of trouble at the thought but it was not like the ship had been thought of as dangerous just abandoned. Everyone needed to let off steam and that thought would haunt him for a while. "Why Jea is not Chief Engineer. It's a code I have." Gregnol admitted knowing that any member of the security team could step up. Delaney would be his choice if Angel did not want it but it would be offered to him first of all.

"Understood," Jake nodded. He let the moment hang, almost out of respect for those they were missing. "Feels like we're all going through various changes, one way or another," he remarked. "People moving on. New allies. Hope we can weather it all."

"Been through worse," Gregnol admitted thinking of the missing two years when they had gotten trapped in the other universe, Uhin leaving, getting kidnapped, it was one big whirlwind of chaos sometimes. "Change is sometimes good though and in some cases most likely for the best." He said trying to sound positive about what was going to be coming their way. The Captain wanted to be positive about it all put out into the universe what you wanted back.

"Yeah." Jake thought silently about his own 'changes'. Both externally and internally. He'd not really discussed them with Gregnol, and he wasn't ready to do so yet. "What's the next step then, boss?"

“Get back to Freecloud and get some downtime.” The man admitted knowing he needed it. “Then get some jobs to cover expenses. Find another doctor… we do go through them don’t we and then find out what the Fenris Rangers need us for.” He would decide one way or another after a meeting with Kaylin properly.

"Downtime it is. Maybe this time we can actually get some downtime without being hunted by murderous holograms or chasing after clones..." Jake snorted dryly. "We're overdue for a quiet one."

Gregnol nodded not only agreeing but hoping. He was desperate to just have a few moments of down time to relax and think through all the options that they had around them and the crew. He still had people to talk to about the Fenris Rangers but also getting the ship in some type of order like removing science and the chaos that could bring. He did not want to lose anyone but it could be possible with Cassie and Jinx but it was only possible with some down time.

“That we are.” He conceded darkly.
