If anyone had mentioned to Alika that she would find herself in a situation where she would be wishing her brother was around to consult, the youthful pilot would have laughed in their faces.
And yet there she was, seated behind the helm, fighting off what she believed were taunting hallucinations of the very same brother she wanted to loathe, cursing herself out for ditching the contact information she had on him.
"Straight line path set, Sir. We shouldn't run into weird asteroids or gas giants for at least a week," she mumbled, slowly swiveling in her cushy chair to face Rueben, seated at his command chair. "I've got her on auto just in case something happens. It should adjust course as necessary, but I'll keep an eye on 'er."
Rueben narrowed his eyes as the young woman turned around to look at him. He smiled reassuringly at her as he noticed how unstable she looked, let alone the words she had been muttering moments before that he hadn’t failed to notice.
“I am glad of that ‘weird asteroids or gas giants’ are not on our to do list in the next week. The only plans are to get us all better. How are you feeling?” He asked wanting her to be honest.
"Fine." Even if he wanted honesty, Alika wasn't going to give it. She could see her brother out of the corner of her eye, jeering at her on her failures. She wouldn't abide by it, even if it meant she was being overly stubborn. "I mean, I'm still running that fever, but the sneezing's mostly stopped. I just gotta keep myself fed and hydrated, right? I'll be fine."
Rueben glanced back at the Reessem who was watching just as unsure and indicated that the pair needed a moment to discuss some things. The teenager nodded, she had to do some stuff in his office anywho. As the door slid shut again leaving them alone Rueben turned back to look at her.
"That is completely correct Alika but who is Luka?" Rueben asked after a silent moment where he watched her.
Without skipping a beat, Alika shrugged. "Older brother. Works himself to death on some ship right now. You'd like him, he's Starfleet. Or former... I forgot."
Rueben slowly got from his seat and moved to crouch next to Alika. Gently he lent out without saying a word and touched her forehead feeling the heat from her. "I think we need to get you to sickbay Alika because you were whispering like Luka was standing next to you." He said standing up offering a hand.
"I don't know what you're on about," Alika huffed, clearly lying as she was ignoring the image of her brother walking back and forth behind the trio. "I'm fine, and you need a pilot to keep here, just in case an asteroid runs through the ship's path. Astrometrics charts can't account for that."
"Alika... i am not suggesting i am telling you. Please do not make me drag you." Rueben requested his out still out stretched. He wasn't feeling so good himself but he wasn't sitting there talking about siblings, especially ones not in the room. He would if necessary pick her up and throw her over his shoulder if her stubbornness held out, but it would cause him a lot of pain not only from his shoulder but he suspected the pilot was a kicker.
A kicker, a biter, and a hair puller if it was necessary. But this time, it would not be. Her gaze turned from the viewscreen to Rueben, and she pondered for a second the repercussions of continuing to put up a fight. She frowned, standing from her spot. "... Fine, but if the asteroid runs head first into our ship, don't say I didn't tell you so."
The man shrugged, he could deal with that. He knew a few people on the ship who weren't showing signs at least had the knowlegde to move the ship if it went into an asteroid he would set one of them in the seat until a time that a full time pilot could resume the helm.
"Come along Mahone." He said sharply indicated the turbolift.
