The Captain slumped in the chair across from the executive officer and shook his head and just held up his hand to stop any questions so he could just savour the moment of having a coffee without anyone talking to him. The Captain had been on the ship far too long going over schematics for the changes and development of the ship and he just wanted his breakfast without any conversation for a moment.
"Who'd have thought, a few months getting a refit and you look like you need one yourself," Jake remarked.
After the first sip of coffee he put the cup down and just looked at the other man. “Please just tell me there are no more swords in the armoury after Leiddem’s sword fight?” He finally said thinking it might lighten the mood a little bit.
"I don't know. Burnie said something about wanting a claymore." Jake's mouth curled up slightly. "And if you think the armoury is bad, you should see what Kali tried to sneak back on board..."
Gregnol knew he was fighting a losing battle with his crew and the appeal that was Hysperian culture and tastes. He knew it was completely different from the usual people that they gotten so it was understandable, he just wished that they took it a little slower. “What did she bring back with her this time?” He demanded fibbing his eyes wondering if he should just get his own weapons to join in.
"Put it this way: I don't think she was all that worried about concealment this time," Jake grinned.
“Right. That fits.” Reuben decided. “Have you jumped on the weapons bandwagon?” He wondered making a face at the coffee that burnt his mouth as he forgot to blow on it to cool it down.
"Eh. Not me. Though I am going shopping before Cassie gets back. Think I should get her something?" he asked.
That question raised an eyebrow and small chuckle. “I am not the person to give relationship advice at all but if you feel like your relationship is at that stage where you are thinking that then go ahead. Have you heard from her much?” He asked trying to gauge what was going on.
"She's been on Earth, catching up with family I assume." Jake just shrugged. "What about you? I notice that you and Jea haven't really been anywhere since we pulled into dock. I know you've got two ladies in your life, Reuben, but the ship comes second to your actual wife..."
“She is from 2246.” Gregnol said reminding them man that any family would be separated by a 150 years. But it was not his place to judge, Cassie was the one crew member he did not have to worry about most of the time. “Actually me and Jeassaho have spent a few nights away but she has been busy with engineering and I’ve been busy with everything so we have just been… busy. Not been did busy since a Starfleet dry dock on the Victory actually.” He would need to make time for the woman with the festival coming up.
"You kept it quiet. I don't think Nollel has seen much of Burnie either. Even with the ship in dock, everyone needs some of that leave time. There's a festival coming up; we should make sure everyone is encouraged to have some fun," Jake suggested.
“Definitely. Would be a nice chance to reconnect and allow people to get some rest and relaxation after the last three months. So how about this: you get to escape for a week?” Gregnol had not missed the work the man had been putting in and watched to reward it if he would accept it.
"Me? Oh I've already got plans for when Cassie gets back. I was more thinking about you. And Burnie. The ones who are actually putting in the work at the moment. Mandated participation from the entire crew at a festival was what I was getting at."
“You have been putting in work as Armoury chief and Executive Officer.” Gregnol assured but he would be talking to Burnie about taking some time to himself. “And quite serious between you and Cassie then if you have plans?”
"Depends on your definition of serious," Jake replied with a little shrug of the shoulders. Clearly Jeassaho had been gossiping in her husband's ear, or at least filling him in on recent events. It wasn't like they were hiding anything, though. "Between you and me, it's still early days and we're trying not to be too...formal about it? We both recognise that we've been through some tough times and it's best to take things slow."
“Why I am checking.” Gregnol said quickly. He did not want to have to fix anymore chaos between people and their relationships if he could help it. He was not a marriage counsellor, he could not give much advice over the mess he had made of him and Jeassaho in the years before their marriage.
"Anyway - enough about me," Jake said, shaking his head. "The crew. The festival. I'm going to call it as a must-attend, at least for the ones that have been around a long time. Including you, boss. Think you and Jea deserve to have some fun, and be seen doing it," he declared.
The man bit his tongue did not say anything else about the Vulcan scientist that was still off on an adventure by her self. It was not his place but it did not mean he did not care about what is executive officer got up too. “Always got time for you Jake.” He stated simply wanting the man to know that if he had issues they could talk through it all. “Fine I will lead by example but I expect you there too and you can work out how to pry Burnie from Engineering.” The Captain declared back.
"Boss - they've got dragons. I think we'll be more concerned about getting him back on the ship..." Jake just grinned.
