Thank the gods," Finn sagged with relief. "I've been living off the foulest creation known in the universe, my grandmother's homemade remedy for colds. I think that mostly it is just so awful you focus on that and forget about the cold, but I can at least keep it down." He remembered his original revenge plan, giving himself a bit of an energy boost. "Tell you what, let me finish my, um, project I was working on, then I can come over. We can nurse each other while my quarters sort themselves out."
"You're not really fixing your quarters are you?" the other man asked, "you can tell me, I'm a lawyer."
Finn fought the urge to pout. "No. But I am trying to fix something that's been annoying me." He tried to at least excuse behavior he knew was childish, but still couldn't keep himself from indulging in. "And I promise, no one will be hurt, or even in any danger." He chewed his bottom lip. He wasn't feeling well enough to start defending his revenge plot. "Wait...you're a lawyer?"
Ben coughed a few times before replying, "Yes, but try not to hold it against me."
"Oh, there's plenty I'll hold against you," his reflexive flirt was cut off by a sneezing fit which just started his head throbbing again. "Shit. I feel so bad I can't even tease you. Go," he shooed the man toward the door. "I'll be done in 15 minutes, then I'll come to your quarters. It not like we're going to cross-infect each other, so it would probably be a good idea to keep an eye on each other overnight."
"Oh, I am going to enjoy keeping my eye on you, I just wish that I could make it more than just an eye."
Finn thought to himself that this guy either had some fetish for sick people, or he didn't look as bad as he felt. He was opting to believe the second and took that as a compliment. "Thanks...I like your eyes. They'll do just fine to start with."
Ben, managed a wan grin, but it was nowhere near his usually flirtatious smile. He sneezed again and his eyes began to water. "Well, I'm afraid that might even be hard, but I am soooo taking a raincheck on that other option."
"There's no rain on a starship," Finn was a bit confused but assumed it was some idiom he wasn't familiar with. He figured it out in context, though. "But you'll definitely get a chance once we've gotten over whatever in the hells this is, assuming that witch doctor, Mott, doesn't end up killing us all with his treatments."
Ben gave a half-hearted shrug of his shoulders, as he retrieved a blanket for Finn. "Here you go," he said. He then made his way back to the bedroom stumbling twice before he collapsed on the bed.
Finn tried to balance the desire for revenge against the pull of a bed. And for once it would be a bed, he wasn't in alone. Not that anything was going to happen, but it had been a while since he'd shared a bed for any longer than it took to scratch an itch then show the person, whose name he was already forgetting the door. His revenge really would only take about 15 minutes to finish setting up. He decided those fifteen minutes could just as easily come after he got some sleep as before. He started unfolding the blanket and followed Ben into the bedroom. The man was already sprawled across the bed. Finn just curled up in the space he could find, enjoying the warmth of the man beside him, and fell asleep almost as soon as his head hit the pillow.
Sometime during the night, Ben's breathing took on a different tone, as the virus inside him began to win the battle with his body.
Finn woke a few hours later. He felt just as shitty as he had when he'd gotten into bed. He was less sleepy, but that just meant he was more aware of just how shitty he felt. He curled in closer to the warmth that was Ben beside him hoping to fall back to sleep for a little while longer. As he stilled, he noticed Ben's breathing was odd, uneven breaths, short, with a rasping noise throughout. He sat up, which made his head swim, and leaned over to get a better look at Ben. He tried waking him, but nothing worked. That's when he knew he was in trouble.
Standing up, Finn crossed to the old comm panel. "Sickbay? Medical emergency in crew quarters..." he looked around not know exactly which quarters he was in. Hopefully, they could figure it out. "Um...Ben Eagleheart's quarters. He fell asleep, but he won't wake up. It's...I think it's whatever this disease is we've all caught. Hurry!" He punched off the unit after getting a response. He sat back down on the edge of the bed while he waited for them, making sure Ben was still breathing. Mott was an ass, but surely he was a responsible doctor as well. He'd do...something.
