Rueben stared at the screen. It was impossible the things that had happened over the last few weeks, he couldn’t even put them in any type of order to process. It ranged from Barton’s arrest all the way through to Jeassaho’s reappearance in his life after three years to the ship, his new ship that he was growing attached to pretty much breaking to pretty much dying along with the majority of his crew. He stared around his officer and sighed, he really did need to do this place up, Dixoho was correct it was bare and unaspiring. He looked at the screen and pressed play again. The Collector as the Crew were referring to him appeared on the screen. He older than Rueben had ever seen someone in years with waxy skin, grey hair and dark eyes than almost looked Betazoid. He looked ill, coughing and wheezing
“They will never find my stash… never in a million eons would someone thing to look in a space that I made my Engineer completely strip out. They are going to walk past it everyday and never see my collection of beautiful and deadly things. If they do it will be there funeral. I hope they almost do find it because they will never be able to enjoy it.” He chuckled again which started off another coughing fit. Rueben watched intrigued as he sat in pretty much the same location as Rueben sat now but instead of bare and inspiring he was surrounded by some of the familiar items in the Grotto.
“He really is insane.” Rueben murmured to himself as he got up pouring himself a drink.
“I have spent years with the most deadly and mad… yes insane geneticists devising a failsafe for my beauties. They will never enjoy my work… no my life. This has been life and they will never get to use any of it before they die.” The man continued to talk for a moment. The screen paused and faded to black signifying the end of the log. The Captain returned sitting down just in time for the screen to burst back to life. His eyes went wide as he remembered Humili telling him that there was nothing after that or they gave up much too soon watching it in their hurry to find a cure.
The Collector looked sicker on the screen now and date stamp told the viewer it was weeks after the last video, a few days before they found the ship drifting. “My only regret in all of these… adventures is that my daughter will never know any of my life’s work. She was taken from me by the witch I married. She grew bored of this life, grew bored of collecting and ran away taking my most precious jewel with her.”
“Daughter…” Rueben muttered to himself. Now this was an interesting development to this Collecting man. Would the girl want to claim this ship? No… that was impossible the ownership papers were in his name, everything there was correct and legal. Would she want the items in the Grotto? She could have it, it had caused a lot of issues on the ship since it had been discovered.
“She is but a baby now but one day she will claim all of this. I have made sure that she isn’t hurt. The failsafe will not hurt her, will not harm one little hair on her precious head. She will be safe, but regret is a terrible thing, it eats at your soul and just leaves regret left. My one regret is letting her go.” The Russian couldn’t disagree there, regret was one of the worst feelings in the universe. It left you bitter and resentful and a shell of a man. Maybe him and the collector weren’t so different after all in the respect, they both regretted letting her go.
