Rianne looked around the mess hall at the decorations and things that had organised so far and had to admit she had never seen the space looking so good. She put down the last tray of food she had prepared for the crew party / birthday party for the engineer. People had informed her it was the first crew party in a very long time.

“Do you need anymore help kid?” The older woman called across to Cami noticing her up a ladder that was held by Jeassaho. To most people being called kid might have offended but the elder betazoid called everyone kid or dear once she got to know them enough.

"I don't think so," Cami called back. "I mean, having to decorate for my own party is one thing. But these things...what did Jeassaho call them? Balloons? I think they're a human tradition. They're big, round and make a loud noise, so at least Burnie will be pleased..." She shrugged. "Drinks? Are people bringing those?"

Jeassaho grinned at the confusion. With so many different species traditions onboard it was hard to remember everything but the Betazoid had spent more time among humans and married to one recently that it was easier to default to those type of things especially for something that was also a big crew party.

“Well, we are decorating 'cause Reuben gave us credits to turn this into a big shindig for you.” Jeassaho teased. “And you never told me any Bajoran traditions you wanted to bring in.”

“Drinks come from the bar as well as those 2 big containers of cocktails that I saw Ms Kylo-Zahn creating earlier,” Rianne responded absently going over to check what they were but a quick test did not tell her anything other than strong.

"So long as there's drink I couldn't care less what Bajoran traditions there are," Cami replied, glancing up at Jessaho. "This is the first birthday I've had where I have had the luxury of actual people to spend it with, and somehow that's ended up even more stressful than the others. How is that fair?"

Jeassaho raised an eyebrow and shrugged. "Not sure but I think we are better company than anyone else you have been friends with." The Betazoid commented grinning as she noticed the chefs winced in approval of the drinks taste. It was worth adding the bottle of vodka she had been saving for the next crew party to it.

"Okay. And it's definitely not tacky? People aren't just going to show up and instantly hate the whole thing right?" Cami persisted, pouting a little as she examined the streamers and banners.

“Not in the slightest. This is typical for celebrations and birthdays on a ship and I have see so many celebrations.” Jeassaho admitted. She had to admit that the mess hall looked great with the streamers and banners. “Do not worry about all of this. People are here to see you and celebrate your day.”

"And get totally drunk and dance all night. Or at least, that's my plan," The Bajoran replied. "I expect to see you and Gregnol in full party mode. I want the Captain dancing hard - it's my birthday, he has to do what I want. Isn't that like the rule or something?"

"I am not sure Reuben is onboard with dancing hard but he might dance," Jeassaho said having only ever seen the man dance hard twice in the ten years she had known him. He had danced hard the night she had met him, the night she had tried to dump him when she realised how high on the ship he had been and then the makeshift wedding party the crew of SS Mary Rose had thrown them.

"Well if he won't dance hard. I can happily make up for it." Riana declared sensing the other Betazoid deep in thoughts for a moment despite her ability to delve into thoughts and emotions not existing. "I am sure there are limits to what you can demand with that rule."

"The one day of the year I can at least try and give the Captain a few orders of my own? Surely I'm going to go all-in," Cami giggled. "Who do you think is the better dancer: Reuben or Jake? Or Burnie, for that matter?"

Jeassaho had seen Reuben dance and he had moments of being a good dancer but there was no way the music was going to allow him to do that but she was not going to throw him under the shuttle so to speak. So she decided to shrug a little. "Bit mean for me to comment on my husband." She admitted.

"Come onnnn!" Cami insisted with a grin, trying to picture it in her head. "I bet he dances like an old man, right? At least tell me what sort of music he likes!"

“He likes old Earth rock music like…” Jeassaho went to the console. She could have asked the computer but she had a tendency to not answer her requests correctly. She pressed a few controls and music started to play Down with the Sickness by Disturbed started to play. Rianne wrinkled her nose but she could not judge as she quite liked Klingon opera music.

"What is this?" Cami shouted over the noise, also cringing with Rianne. "He listens to this stuff and you still married him?" She poked out a tongue. "Remind me never to get hitched..."

Jeassaho laughed, shaking her head as she moved to the console and turned off the music, instantly bringing relief to everyone's ears. The sudden silence was almost jarring. "You are telling me you would not marry Reuben given the chance? It's not just about music taste," she said with a wink, her tone teasing before she shrugged, a fond smile playing on her lips. "You get used to it. And besides, it's part of who he is. Everyone has their quirks. I have mine too, you know."

"Marry Reuben!? Ewwww..." Cami cringed sharply. Then she glanced at Jeassaho. "Sorry. But...you can keep him. Some quirks are just too...quirky."

"I would if I liked men like him but too tall and bulky," Rianne commented with a grin. Jeassaho raised an eyebrow at the other Betazoid before grinning more. "but he is very pleasing to the eyes."

"We really need to get you both out more," Cami sighed dramatically. "You're starting to go crazy. There are plenty more men out there just waiting. Now come on, I need to get the punchbowls ready and we're still working on banners and balloons."

"Well, I am married so I do not need to get out more." Jeassaho laughed just a little at her younger friend. The lightheartedness in her voice betrayed a sense of contentment with her current life. It might not be perfect but she did enjoy it.

Rianne, rolling her eyes playfully, responded, "And I do not like men." Her tone was laced with a mix of exasperation and amusement as she glanced around the room. The space, decorated for the occasion, seemed to amplify the uncertainty she felt about whether the birthday girl was being overly dramatic or if this was just her usual flair. She really needed to get to know people more before offering her help.

"Well...I like drinking and dancing. So that's the most important thing about tonight," Cami responded, feeling a little like the only 'kid' in the room. It was a role she figured she would fill well. "Unless I'm missing anything else from the list of traditions?"

"If this works for you then it works for you. It is all about you Cam." Jeassaho offered a smile. She had many sisters in her life so she did not help feeling like Cami fit that role for her too. She would do her best to make sure that Cami had the best birthday.
