As they walked along the beach toward the cantina, Bradon couldn't help but feel a spring in his step. It had been a long time since he had been in a social occasion with a woman, especially one as pretty as Dixoho. And if she was the head navigator, which he knew perfectly well she was, she had a head on her shoulder as well.
"Aww this place looks so homely." The redhead commented on as she saw the place. "I love places like this. The owners normally have had it for generations. You know the food has just a little bit of love in it as it comes from the heart." She grew animated talking away about the Cantina.
Bradon grinned as he watched her reaction to the place. "I agree," he replied as they entered the little restaurant. "My Dad used to call them 'Mom and Pop' shops. Best food anywhere is what he said. I've come to agree with him."
"I think I agree with your father." She agreed her mouth opening in surprise as they entered.
They briefly stopped their conversation as they were shown to a cozy table near the back. Large plants, set in pots, or even directly from the floor, stretched their foliage up and across the place, bringing both a freshness to the air, and a semblance of privacy, as the leaves of the plants obscured the view for more than a couple feet.
Bradon watched for Dixaho's reaction to the decor. He'd been a bit set back himself yesterday when he found the place. It had quickly grown on him, and he was interested in seeing what her reaction was.
As they sat down, he asked: "So what do you think of the place?"
"It's... It is amazing." She murmured looking around closing her mouth as she took in all the plants surrounding them. As a boomer child, she had never seen as much foliage as this before, even their hydroponics bay didn't have that many plants and vegetation yet. "I love the decor. I wish i could do this in my room, it would change the drabness. Do you think Humili would allow me to turn my quarters into something resembling this?"
"As much as I would like to say yes, the answer would probably be no. Not unless you could come up with a way to defray the cost of the equipment to set up the systems needed to keep the plant life alive." Then he got a thoughtful look on his face. If he was remembering right...
"Tell you what, don't write off the idea just yet. There may be a way." He grinned at her.
Dixoho laughed at the grin on his face, he looked like a mad scientist suddenly as the waitress appeared asking if they wanted a drink. "Um just water please." She breathed.
"Coffee for me, please. And I believe I will have the house special for lunch." He had noticed on the way in that the special today was something that resembled a pastrami and rye sandwich back aboard ship, though without the synthetic look to it. Looked pretty good, anyway.
The waitress jotted down Bradon's order, then turned to look at Dixoho.
"I'll have just have an argendi sandwich." The red head said with a bright smile. It was easy to see she was slowly getting back to her old self after the virus had taken her friend and nearly killed her. If it hadn't been for her pure stubbornness she suspected she might not have been there.
"Thank you. Your orders will be out shortly." The waitress turned, then vanished through a swinging door to the kitchen.
Bradon watched her leave, then turned to Dixoho. "Thank you for joining me for lunch," he said with a grin.
Dixoho giggled a little, she was enjoying herself. "I am glad you invited me. It has been a long time since I've been off a ship like this just in nice company and breathing fresh air. I grew up on a cargo vessel, never really spent a lot if time planet side. This makes such a difference." She blushed, it sounded daft but it was the truth.
"It does, doesn't it?" his smile matching hers. "I didn't grow up on a ship, or at least not a real one. Sometimes I thought Mary Margaret's School for Adolescents was one, though. Got plenty of outdoor work, as the sisters were a firm believer of idle hands bringing mischief. I have tilled many a garden. Though nothing as lovely as this!" He swept his arm around the place, taking in all the foliage.
"I have to say, though," he said, looking back at her, "they all pale next to you." He sat back in his chair, surprised at himself.
"Oh really?" The Trill found herself saying looking at him smiling more. Was he actually flirting with her? She wasn't someone who normally got flirted with or invited to lunch, normally she was the wall flower hiding in the corner avoiding people.
"Really," Bradon replied. He was about to say more when the waiter arrived with their drinks and house salads. After letting them know their main course would be out shortly.
"You know, I normally don't do well with people I don't know. I don't seem to have that problem with you. The last woman that I told that I thought she was pretty, it took me two weeks to work up the nerve." He glanced at her with a small smile on his face."It must have been that brush with death I had recently. Changed my outlook on some things."
"I think it changed us all." Dixoho tried not to think about the virus.
He paused for a moment as he applied some oil and vinegar - or the local equivalent - to his salad, then took a bite. The leaves were shaped differently than he was used to, and the color was a bit off, but the taste was wonderful. Nice and crispy, with a burst of flavor as he bit into them.
"So," he continued, "I've decided to just speak up and say my mind. It may get me in trouble, but I'm a big fella. I can handle it."
"No trouble to be found here. I am likely the least troubling person on Rosie" Dixoho said with a small amused smile before she took a bite of the sandwich. It was the truth out of most of the people on the ship she was likely the only person who wasn't going to cause him trouble. "Also we are starting to know each other. I know you went to school somewhere called Mary Margaret's School for Adolescents and you know I am a boomer child. So we have covered childhood." Dixoho was eager to continue this conversation now that it seemed they were both interested.
