After meeting the other senior staff, Micheal was finally ready to get down to business, getting his department squared away. Entering his new office, he found it in disarray. Apparently, the previous tenant had apparently made a mess of things and then just walked away. Looking around at the mess, he knew he'd have his work cut out for him.
Reaching over to the wall comm unit, he activated it. "Mister Kea, report to the security office." He released the transmit button and began cleaning the mess, while he awaited the arrival of the only other person in his department.
"I am so glad you used Mister in calling me, as I never respond to just Kea anymore." The man announced as he walked into the office. He didn't look phased by the mess at all. He hadn't served on a ship until this one with his sister. "My sister on the other hand does." She just didn't care if they wanted him or not.
Micheal extended his right hand and smiled a friendly smile. "Howdy. My name is Micheal Robertson, and I'm the new security chief."
"You are the man who thinks he can break the curse... How brave!" Kea said with a grin as he took the hand. He knew the human gesture after many years in the Marines.
Micheal arched his right eyebrow. "Curse? What curse?"
"Don't worry," Kea said brushing it aside. The man wouldn't be there long enough to even worry about the curse.
"No, I want to know," Micheal crossed his arms across his chest and afixed a stare on Kea that clearly stated that he wanted the information before they continued with anything else.
Leiddem frowned at the human."It's a joke. We've had a lot of Chiefs of Security or whatever you are called on this ship." He explained going through mentally the list of them. "Lots of craziness." He added eyeing the man up trying to gauge his level of craziness. He knew there had to be a little bit of it to work on a ship like this but sometimes it was just too much. You either had what it took or you didn't.
Micheal grinned. "Ah. I see. Well, I'll be here as long as the Captain wants me to be here." He looked around the messy office before continuing. "How long have you been on the Mary Rose?"
"Since Barton got her." He said simply shrugging. The tall Betazoid moved to sit on the only chair that was in the room still the right way up and span on it. "Only me, Dix and Rueben have that honour of knowing Barton and his craziness. You have nothing on him even if you do shoot out bulkheads like the gunslingers of ancient Terra,"
Micheal almost rolled his eyes. "Look," he began. "I'm not going to keep apologizing for that. I did what I thought had to be done. Given the chance to do it over, I'd do the same thing." He briefly wondered if that single disruptor shot would haunt him forever.
Shaking his head to dispell the thought, he continued. "Okay. As you've been here that long, I hereby name you my lead assistant chief of security. You will be my right arm. When I cannot perform my duties, for any reason, you shall be in my place."
"What?" Leiddem shook his head with a sigh. "I am also on call Nurse, you know that right?" The Betazoid spun on his chair again thinking his sister would be laughing her tiny head off if she could see this conversation from the Engine room.
Micheal frowned slightly as he shrugged. "Well then, you'll just have to learn how to multitask. You've been here longer than most of the rest of my department. So, the job is yours." He paused briefly before continuing. "You don't like the added responsibility? Then you could to take on even more work, by finding me a better assisant chief and train them up properly. You do that, then I'll release you from the position. Choice is yours."
"I've been here longer than most of the crew. Only people here longer is Gregnol and Saa." He said thinking on Rueben and Dixoho. "You drive a hard bargain." The Marine hissed before resuming his previous positions and spinning on the chair. He had a lazy attitude but anyone who had been around him for more than a millisecond knew it was just him, it was his charm.
Micheal crossed his arms across his chest and stared at Leiddem. "Well, what's your answer?"
"Looks like I am not in a situation to refuse." Kea sighed. "So do I get paid more?" If he was meant to be doing more work on top of his nursing duties then he hoped he was going to get more pay. He smirked, it was funny that he was thinking about pay when he was here to help Rueben or had, that mission was defunct now.
Micheal chuckled as he replied. "Sure. I'll talk to the Captain about getting you a few extra duckets for the extra work. But, don't expect much."
"Mmmm... I haven't expected much since I came onboard." Apart from a few kidnappings involving his sister to get her safely out of Intelligence's hands, it felt pretty like all his Starfleet Marine postings. The only thing different was he got to wear all black and said what he wanted without out having to add a 'sir'.
"So is that a yes?" Micheal asked. While the man in front of him seemed a bit of a wild card, perhaps he was exactly what a ship like this needed.
"Well, who else is going to do it for you Roberston? Not exactly many people willing to help a man break a curse." The man said before resuming his usual position whether it be Medical or Security - Spinning on the chair. He was actually thinking and considering despite how ridiculous he looked spinning.
Micheal grinned slightly. He could see now that he and Kea would do just fine as a team. "Good. Then your first job is to get me a complete inventory of personal weapons on the ship. Where they are, if they're privately-owned then by who, what they are. Have it on my desk before close of business tomorrow. For now, get out of here and get a good night's rest. We start getting things in shape at oh-four-thirty tommorow. Dismissed."
