It was a dark, dreary night like most nights on the Ferengi homeworld and Rueben hated it, he had always avoided shore leave when it had been there unless it was a conference that he couldn't ignore. He spent the time catching up on paperwork and surprising department heads with inspections on a whim. He strolled down the street passed the brightly lite shop fronts that brightened the darkness that oozed out of the alleyways. He was intently watching a much small figure in front of him that was walking with a sense of purpose. The person had a long pale coloured coat covering their clothes against the rain falling as usual on the swamp plant. The person was nearly invisible when a shopfront faded and the darkness resumed but Rueben knew they were there.
The wind whipped his face, taking him by surprise and making him feel unbearably cold as the one thought continued to race through Reuben's mind. This is crazy. She will shoot me once she sees me. He knew without a doubt that she would have a weapon, he had read her personnel file and she wasn't the bright little Ensign that he knew in his previous life. She was a stubborn mule of a Chief Engineer, but she was the only one in this sector who would even be willing to help him get Rosie working.
The person in front had sensed something approaching that wasn't normal, something that didn't feel right. Rueben held up his hand as he lowered his jacket hood and looked at the small blonde as she span around and looked at him. Her usual calm and nice attitude fading as she saw the huge man and everything caught up as she recognised him she pulled out her weapon from her pocket and pointed it at him
"Reuben Gregnol you are dead?" The woman said her hair starting to stick to her face as she dropped her umbrella not caring as the strong wind took it away.
"Da...Meant to be Lieutenant but strangely enough, I am not." He said going for humour to charm her when her face didn't change he tried a different tact - pity. "I need your help." He said still holding up his hands. He wasn't under the allusion that she wouldn't shoot.
She had been an anomaly, the embodiment of everything a woman should not be to the admiralty or Captain of the Victory. She was everything a young woman should never be bold, outspoken, and intelligent in Engineer of all areas everything her mother had raised her to be. To them, she wasn't welcome due to Melinda Fenruse's reputation for ripping medical departments and staff apart including the Victory and they had tried to wash her out and off the ship, it had been the Captain's vendetta, giving her cadet after cadet to break her. It was these very qualities - so admonished by them - that drew him to her and changed how people saw her. It was her down right stubbornness that he met Jeassaho, he would never stop being thankful for that.
"You are the one who sent the transmission?" she demanded everything clicking into place. This man was Intelligence, he had faked his death.
"Yes. I did and I need your help, Selina." Rueben admitted as the woman lowered her weapon staring at him in shock.
