Selina was deep in her usual and pleasant dreams. A green meadow blanketed in small yellow wildflowers, a clear stream nearby, a deep azure sky so pure and perfect. She walked through the field, her bare feet quivering in delight at the feel of soft grass dancing across their skin. For the Betazoid, such a dream was prophetic of good times ahead, and in the morning it would go a long way to soothing her ills regarding her transfer to the rust bucket she was currently on. Eventually, she awoke and went through the motions of the morning and soon found herself fully dressed in the baggy blue boiler suit and stood just inside the mess hall.
"I am certainly going to speak with Reuben about the uniforms. Everyone looks like they belong in Utopia Planitia, not on a civilian starship."
Off to one side of the mess was Valiyi Uhin, who took to the food that was served within the confines of the ship as well as Selina took to her new transfer. A single mug of tea sat in front of her, and she had her arms crossed, determined to not look over to the side, where the windows to the kitchens happened to be. "There are plenty of concerns I have, but uniforms are among my top priorities."
"Are you talking to me?" The Blonde Betazoid asked looking at the other woman unsure before she recognised a fellow Betazoid. 'Uniforms?' She wondered moving to sit down without invitation, it wasn't like it mattered when she could exchange information quicker telepathically that talking ever could manage.
'No, of course not,' Valiyi pathed to Selina. 'I don't want to spook everyone simply by staring and communicating via minds. There's no telling who has an issue with that sort of chatter around here. I wanted to speak of the conditions you feel you've come under' "Of course. As a newly arrived member of the crew, you certainly should have an opinion on the uniforms. Did you come from Starfleet as well? I would say they breathed much more easily."
"Certainly came from Starfleet. Lieutenant Selina Fenruse." Selina nearly held out her hand in the human gesture but remembered most Betazoids frowned on that. 'I am sure this crew would complain if the cutlery was gold plated.' She said pushing her plate away the sick feeling returning again.
As expected, Valiyi made no motion to take the hand and shake it, nor did she make any motion to acknowledge the food in front of her once more. "I believe that's a fair few of us, then. I know of at least two more. It's a surprise Starfleet has put so many of us out. But, at the very least, they knew how to make comfortable uniforms." 'That's the problem with a civilian crew, but I am hoping investigating on why this is will allow for... fewer complaints.'
"How else do you get crew that know how things like this work? Starfleet at least leaves us with skills for life outside the commbadge." Selina wondered with a small smile. She wasn't exactly put out, more assigned without permission but either way, her commission was intact. "'Maybe one on one meetings with department heads?' Selina wondered as someone came to sit on the end of there table.
"There are plenty with civilian backgrounds who obtain the necessary skills to help make the ship function." Valiyi's tone was playful. 'I think I'll be a tad more creative than that. One on one meetings are so formal, and this is such an informal situation...'
Selina snorted into her tea and shook her head at the woman in her playfulness. Well I look forward to those 'meetings'. Selina said still amused by it all. It was an interesting change of pace for her and she didn't know if her body was used to it yet.
Glancing over to the other occupant at the table, Valiyi's head tilted to one side. "I do hope you are getting on with those within Engineering, at the very least." 'I'm sure you will. Though, if you do see a hapless malfunction one day, perhaps give pause before attempting to repair it.'
I do try and think before I do. Selina had become less quick to throw herself into danger since discovery her pregnancy. "It is interesting. A crewman that used to be on my old Starfleet ship is now the Chief." Selina wasn't sure how top feel but it was amusing.
"That is a twist of events. I cannot imagine how that feels, but it may be something to take in stride." Valiyi tilted her head to one side. 'A planned malfunction is still a malfunction. How else am I going to get the attention of the Chief?'
I am sure it can be arranged. Selina assured with a shrug at the woman. It didn't bother her in the slightest that Draia was Chief, what bothered her the most was she was there and not on Viking with Tae and everyone else who had become her family in the other time they had experienced.
'Oh don't worry. I've been captain of a ship just like this. Minor malfunctions were the easy part.' Valiyi could feel the tension from Selina, but it didn't seem her place to say anything. Not if she wished to keep trust within the crew. There was already too much distrust as it was. "But... I should take my leave to make sure I nose in on everyone else. Captain's orders, of course."
"You'll get used to Gregnol." Selina said simply as the woman walked away. It was nice to have possibly another friend on the ship who was a woman in a world of hard men.
