Micheal was in his office, taking it easy. Or at least trying to. He had been released from sickbay with strict instructions that he was not to stress his body any. Thus, he was stuck to sitting at his desk for the time being. As he was going through all of the administration work that was in his inbox, his computer beeped a warning. With furrowed brows, he stopped what he was doing and typed in a few commands, pulling up the warning alert.
His features darkened a bit more as he read the contents of the warning message. Apparently, someone had accessed the ship's security logs. While that was a bad thing, what was worse, was that, whoever was responsible, had done an excellent job hiding their identity. Reaching over to activate the comm system, he spoke aloud, "Sampson, come to my office, please." He then released the button, closing the channel. While he waited for the security officer to arrive, he continued to investigate the breach into his systems.
Tenrar entered Micheal's office, he is a young Cardassian who had just recently signed onto the Mary Rose, and was a little bit nervous but trying not to show it. "Sir, Sampson has left the crew, I'm his replacement, my name's Sollis Tenrar, but people usually just call me by my last name." He held out his hand, a human gesture he had picked up on the SS Lucky.
Micheal visibly tensed when the Cardassian entered his office. As a veteran of the Dominion War, he had a deep hatred for the Breen, Jem'Hadar, and especially the Cardassians. "What the hell are you doing on this ship, Cardie?" His voice was laced with venom as he spoke.
This reaction was nothing new to Tenrar, most veterans of the Dominion War looked at him in disgust, it didn't matter to them that he was just a boy during the war or that he had lost his entire family, all they could see was another damn Cardie. Retracting his hand, his Cardassian temper starting to flare up. Tenrar took a deep breath and continued, "I'm your new security officer, I haven't been on the ship long, however, I look forward to working with you, Sir."
After Micheal's initial reaction washed over him, he could see that the man standing in front of him seemed a bit too young to have served in the war. However, his experiences with the kid's countrymen made it difficult to get past his hatred. However, if the Captain had allowed him to join the crew, then Micheal would work with him. For now.
"There's been a security breach in the personnel files," he began, not acknowledging Tenrar's respectful statement. "Whomever it was, hid their tracks very efficiently. Log into the system and find me some evidence as to who the culprit or culprits are. I expect a report of your findings on my desk by 0800 tomorrow. Dismissed." He pressed a control on his desk, opening the door leading out of his office, clearly indicating that he was done with the Cardassian.
"Yes sir," he said stiffly "I'll get you that evidence, even if I have to stay up all night." He left the Chief's office, the door closing behind him, barely missing him. Tenrar was now determined to earn the Chief's respect. He immediately got to work, though, he wasn't sure what he was looking for, or even where to start, but he wouldn't stop looking until he found something.
After the Cardassian had left his office, Micheal sat back in his chair, quietly fuming. The problem was, he wasn't sure whether he was angry that a Cardassian was now on his team, or that he had started off things from a racist standpoint. He was fully aware that he was prejudging Tenrar on his past experiences with the other Cardassians he had met in battle, back during the war. After several moments of heavy soul searching, he decided to give the Cardassian a chance, though it would not be easy, for either of them. Activating his wrist comm unit, he sent a command to Rebecca to begin searching for all information about the Cardassian. If there was anything negative in his past, Micheal would make sure that his stay here would be hell.
