Hen Party

Cassie wasn't sure she liked this idea of a bachelorette party in the slightest but the female crew members had insisted that she arrive dressed to the nines and ready to drink and dance. It seemed they had gotten permission to take over the crew bar for that night with a no boys allowed policy. She was staring at her reflection in the mirror taking in the red dress she wore.

As she was about to leave her quarters, Johnathen entered from the corridor (they had both notified the computer to allow the other unlimited access to each other's quarters. It was a temporary solution until the Captain was able to assign them family quarters), and stopped dead in his tracks. While he had seen her dressed as impeccably in the past, it had been quite a long time since there had been an occasion for it. "Wow!" He exclaimed breathlessly. "You're absolutely stunning!" He himself was dressed in comfortable black dress slacks and a white polo.

Cassie turned with a smile as she felt his surprise first then the words. She hadn't expected him to turn up that night seeing it was a human tradition for the bride not to see the groom the night before the weddings. "I thought we were doing things your way?" She wondered confused.

Johnathen smiled and nodded. "Oh! We can see each other now, once our parties start, then not till you walk down the aisle." He stepped closer and gently wrapped his arms around her, not wanting to wrinkle her dress, or mess up her make up and hair. "I just wanted to say that I love you one more time before tomorrow."

The woman smiled at the way he was being careful with her when she was the one who could hurt him. "I know you do. We are bonded." She said caressing his cheek with two fingers. She could feel everything he felt, it was the enjoyable thing about a Vulcan bond.

Inhaling Cassie's intoxicating perfume, Johnathen let out a quiet sigh when she touched him. "Okay, my love," he whispered, desperately wanting to be more intimate with her. "You go have fun tonight. And then tomorrow, I'll see you in the chapel, when you will become my wife, and I will become your husband. We will then be joined in the ways of both of our peoples." He gazed deeply into her eyes. "I love you, Cassie."

"Love you too." She assured as she watched him leave the quarters. It didn't take long finish getting ready. Cassie was growing more and more surprised as the evening went on and she stepped into the Crewbar and saw the decorations. "What... What is all this?" She wondered quietly going red at the fuss that was being made despite the dress she was wearing.

Ambika felt a little uncomfortable, though she was glad she was invited, She held back greeting the bride to be, knowing her closer friends deserved that place

To say she was surprised to get invited was an understatement, she barely conversed with the crew as it was but maybe she should change that. Dodian had noticed that the crew were always friendly with her in passing, her small science team were quite obedient and had gotten to know her little quirks rather quickly so she had kind of settled in. She was entirely sure what a 'Hen' Party was, but she was sure it was an Earth animal...

Vailyi was positively buzzing with excitement the moment Cassie walked herself in. As the doors swished open, the First Mate clapped her hands, and the lights to the bar lit up. Valiyi puffed up proudly at the mild display of her own programming, gesturing toward the set up that they had all worked hard to complete for such an affair. "My dear Miss McAvoy, I do not believe we have had much pleasure of meeting each other after the transporter incident, but please do not let that deter you from enjoying your party as a congratulations from all of us to you!"

"Who did all of this?" Cassie wondered still looking at all the decorations. She was amazed as she had only been onboard a month so didn't expect anything.

"We all did," Humili pointed out, before tilting her head subtly to the First Mate, "Now drink up, this brew is made special for this party, and I don't plan on sharing with the boys."

"Am I going to make it to my wedding with this kind of drink?" Cassie wondered her eyes going wide as she took a sip of the drink, it was strong. "It is good." Jeassaho took an offered glass and took a ship.

"This stuff is good." She approved happily looking at Dodian. "Nice to see you here." The Engineer said going to sit by her.

"I'm 'happy' to be invited." Dodian replied trying 'niceties' that she rarely ever used. It had been a while since she had been with a group, let alone a party. In fact she couldn't remember the last time she had been to one at all.

Humili made a dismissive gesture with her hand as she continued to serve to the girls. "Don't worry about being right for the wedding, we're scientists. We have fixes for this."

The Hybrid laughed softly and took another sip of the drink. "Well, I leave my hangover in your hands then," Cassie said grinning as she tried to ignore the butterflies in her stomach at the thought of finally marrying Johnathen.

"That may be dangerous... I've seen hangovers kill people." Dodian stated nonchalantly looking into her drink then taking a sip. She looked up to see everyone looking at her. "Did I say something?" she asked. She wasn't used to company and didn't mean it in a negative manner, it was just a thought that popped into her head, a memory of her past.

Jeassaho burst out laughing at the Science Chief and touched her glass with her own. "You are amusing." She said brightly covering the awkwardness that had come over the Crew Bar at the woman's words.

"Thank you?" Dodian half asked unsure if it was actually a compliment, the whole concept of compliments confused her. She offered a weak smile and looked out as the room as it returned to normal.

"Here, I snuck down to the Arboretum and made this for you," Ambika said as she placed a crown of woven leaves on Cassie's head. "It's an Azzian tradition, 'Queen for a day, Queen for the rest of our life'."

"You're going to be in so much trouble with Humili," Cassie said with a huge blush as the crown was put on her head. it was such a lovely idea and just perfect for her seeing she was a cross of two very different cultures.

"No, she's not," Humili pointed out, deftly refilling glasses as she passed by. "Because if Ambika was going to get herself into the dangerous plants, she would have had something snap her head off. She didn't get far enough in to damage anything." At this, she gave the Azzian a pointed look.

Ambika flushed red, "Sorry still getting my feet around here."

Humili waved a dismissive hand. "I can show you around some time if you'd like. That way you don't have to sneak anywhere anymore."

"Thanks, I'd appreciate that," she replied with some relief, "Been feeling like 'odd man out' walking around here."

Cassie felt bad for the teasing. "Sorry...I wanted to say thank you." Cassie said after the silence had stretched out too long. "This is a kindness you owed me none, and I wanted to pass on how grateful I'm for it. Guess I'm not all that used to having folk look out for me, or sit by me like that." She rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly. Did this sound has cliche and foolish as she imagined.

Valiyi came up behind Cassie, resting a hand on her shoulder while nursing a mug of hot cocoa in her other hand. "Nonsense, you are a part of the crew. Everyone here is. We look out for own, hm?"

"I guess but I barely know anyone. It makes me feel really included and thankful that we were freed here instead of any other time." Cassie said thoughtfully if The Collector had freed them or even the one of the crews that had manned this ship before their lives would be so different. She hadn't really had anyone apart from Johnathen since she was eighteen and then her husband Tevir until she had messed him around.

Dodian did give a little smile, these ladies seemed to be quite nice, easy to get along with. Maybe she'd eventually let her guard down, bit by bit, and call them friends as they worked together more in the future. It was nice to be part of something that contained so much hope, hope was a nice thing to have and she liked how it was rubbing off on her.
