Alexis sat on the end of the bed looking back at the man who was sound sleep lying there without a care in the world as the woman stared out the window looking down at Earth and all the beauty it held. She had fallen asleep but somewhere just after midnight she had woken to take medication and been unable to fall back thinking on the man who was in the Brig many decks below them.

Despite being exhausted and falling asleep quickly, his brain had never really shut off. The dreams that he had had were ones that were not of his choosing. Most of them were about Lexie and none of them ended well. As he started to rouse his arm extended outward to reach for her and when nothing was there his brain woke up more. Lifting his head from the pillow he looked a where he had expected her to be but then spotted her at the end of the bed. “Babe? Everything ok?”

Alexis turned as she felt him stirring and looked back to where he lay and nodded. It was unusual for her to wake up and be reflective like this but the last few weeks were daunting and even more so the prospect that her husband was back. He would be ashamed of how low she had become. “I am just watching Earth come into orbit.” The woman assured turning back to look at the view.

“Oh,” He replied as he rolled onto his back and simply watched her. He didn’t need to be telepathic to see that something was bothering her and he would be lying if he said it didn’t hurt a little that she didn’t want to confide in him. He loved her though to let her be and do whatever she needed. “Usually a pretty sight.” He added.

“Been a while since i’ve been back here. You?” She wondered wrapping the cardigan she had on around her a little more against the chill in her quarters. She always kept in a little cooler when Nathan was there.

“Not all that long.” He replied. “That last time I was here was for Sarah’s birthday.” His eyes closed for a moment as he thought back over the last visit with his sister. A slight laugh brought a smile to his lips. “She sent me a message the other day when she found out I was going to be back for a bit. Apparently she had a boyfriend that she wants me to meet. Poor guy.” While Nathan knew that his little baby sister was far from a baby, no man would ever be good enough for her in his opinion.

“That was only a few months then. October time?” The woman said remembering the slip of a girls birthday. She had attended once many years ago. “That is nice.” At least he was getting some time to himself with his family. Alexis didn’t have that privalage she was due to report to paris for a debrief.

“September,” He smiled before sitting up slowly. “You were close.” He couldn’t resist any longer. Seeing her sitting there being cold for his comfort overruled him. He wrapped his arms around her and easily pulled her to him being sure to maximize the amount of contact so he could share the heat radiating off of him. “I miss her when I am gone, but she needs the time to grow up.” He added as he nuzzled her neck with soft kisses.

“Human months still confuse me after all these years.” The woman commented on as she was pulled to him and was pretty much sat in his lap now with the cardigan the only item between them. “Little birds need to fly.” She commented on closing her eyes at his soft kisses.

“So you have always told me.” He smiled breathing in the scent of her. He loved her with every ounce of himself. “I am working on it, it hard when you love someone so much.” He made sure to be gentle with her.

“Of course it is.” Alexis was pretty sure if she felt like that towards any of her siblings she would be saying the same. Time and distance had stopped that kind of bonds especially when she choose security over being a doctor. Alexis turned a little to capture his lips in a proper kiss.

Nathan loved feeling her lips against his. There was a passion and need behind it that went beyond the two them. It was one of the few times she was completely honest with him, no longer able to hide behind her Betazoid heritage. A contented sigh escaped his lips as he returned the kiss.

“You know the best part of having my quarters a few degrees cooler is I get to cuddle up to you.” The woman commented on softly as she felt the ship stop finally and the calming sense that came over the stationary ship. “Computer what time is it?” She wondered pretty much still against his lips.

“The time is zero one hundred hours.” The computer answered.

“Mmm...Plenty of time to keep you warm.” Nathan said with a seductive growl as he pulled her with him back in to the bed. He simply looked down at her where she was laying with her hair splayed over the pillow and couldn’t help but smile.

Alexis was surprised by the growl from him but smiled at him taking in his handsome features in the semi light. It wasn’t often that he was like that towards her. “You look so happy right now,” She whispered b

Nathan looked down at here. There was a sadness she was hiding like he trooper she was. “I am ok, no complaints.” He grinned before kissing her leaving them both breathless. “I am getting a new assignment.” He finally admitted not sure why he picked that moment but it just came out.

The woman hoped he was happy. She wanted him happy. “You are?” She wondered breathless against his lips surprised he was picking that moment to decide to tell her.

“Yes,” He said. “I have a some time off for leave and then I report to the USS Cosmos.” He gave her a few kisses the last one lingering. “They need a sensor specialist and apparently that means me.” He nuzzled his nose against hers. “I am sorry to spring it on you, but with Liam and all…”

Alexis didn’t say anything for a long time apart from enjoy his touches what could she say to him. He was doing what he needed to do for him. She would do the same if she was in his shoes.

“Babe,” He said softly as he placed a kiss on her neck. “I can see it on your face.” He kissed her chin. “It isn’t what you think.” He smiled. “I am not running away from you. I didn’t have a choice and if it were up to me I would drag you away from all of this and take you with me.”

“But you can’t. I have to stay and face my behaviour.” Alexis said softly. She couldn't be mad at him if she wanted to be, and she definitely didn't want to. The woman kissed him hard for a moment trying to put her feelings into it.

“No matter where I am I am with you.” Nathan said once the passionate kiss broken. “Besides, you are too cute for them to punish too badly.” He smiled. “Besides, you came back to me one before.” He kissed her again. “What makes you think this will keep us apart?”

“I’m not scared about Starfleet. I’m more concerned about the deities and them punishing me for how I’ve lived my life the last few years. I can live anywhere in the universe guarding anywhere.” She whispered as she slowly pushed him onto his back and moved over him.

“They are not punishing you.” Nathan replied allowing her the control she so obviously felt as if she were losing. “Life is a test of perseverance, babe.” He reached up and brushed his knuckled along her cheek softly. “You are the strongest women I know with the largest heart. Any deity in the universe knows that everything you do is necessary.” He tone was soft as spoke to her, almost as if in awe of her, which he was.

“Drinking and sleeping around wasn’t necessary really.” The woman reminded him softly before she leaned over him and pressed a kiss to his lips as she removed her cardigan tossing it away. “When do you leave?” She asked reluctantly to know.

He watched her. She was a goddess and he would never understand why she chose to be with him. She may have handled the loss of her husband poorly but she was the best person he knew. His hands gently touched her now bare skin as they made their way into her hair. Pulling her into a kiss that would leave them both breathless. “Not tonight.” Was his reply as he kissed her again.
