Saying I'm Sorry

Eden sighed as she pressed the chime outside the new XO's office. She had reservations about doing this but all in all it was the right thing to do, especially if she wanted their future to be an amicable one. He didn't know about her relationship with Sebastian, at least she hoped he didn't. She'd tried to be very discreet about it. But if he was someone that Sebastian trusted then she needed to learn to get over her feelings of insecurity around him as well.

"Come on in." Ryder had not had long enough to settle in his office, and it showed. There were a pair of boxes off to one side, as he sat at the new, much bigger desk. How was he going to cover all this? He didn't have that many knick knacks.

As the door slid open, he looked up from his work, gesturing to the other seat in front of him. "Eden, hey. I don't... have much to offer right now, sorry about that. What can I do for you?"

"Well . . . I heard about your promotion and I wanted to offer my congratulations and . . . . I wanted to apologize for shooting you down on the planet. I obviously wasn't myself. So . . . . sorry. It's important to Sebastian and well you probably already know about us," she shrugged, still clearly uncomfortable with him.

Ryder blinked at Eden, hand still outstretched to the seat. "... Please sit."

She looked at the chair, bent her knees and slide sideways into it without ever taking her eyes off him.

"... You don't need to apologize, we were all under the effects of the atmosphere. Shit happens." Ryder shook his head. "I'm not worried about that. I'm just glad we all made it out intact. Worse things have happened." He smiled. "What I am a little confused about, Eden, is that... that I have no idea what you're referring to otherwise."

"Oh," She said looking down at her hands. "Well . . . he might not be too pleased if I told you but you probably will find out. We're in a relationship. And no, he's not holding it over me using it as leverage for a promotion or some such nonsense. I'm happy where I am. And I'm happy with him."

"Oh. Kay." Ryder narrowed his eyes at her. He couldn't see the harm in it, and while there were probably more rules against the act, the only time it should have mattered was when it interfered with everything. "... As long as everyone's happy, Eden. That's the important part."

Eden nodded. "So yeah . . . . that was really why I came, to apologize since you are Sebastian's XO now. I figured we should probably try to get along well. That's all I've got." She said as she raised her arms and flopped them back down at her sides.

Ryder tilted his head to one side. People were treating him differently, and while he got it came with the new position, it felt.... Inorganic. It always would. "I didn't think we weren't getting along, Eden. Planet atmosphere doesn't break bonds. It just makes for weird stories." He offered, adding a smile.

"So it's all been in my head for the last few weeks?" A lot of things were in her head so it wasn't that much of a surprise. "I guess I don't know you all that well, that might be the problem. Do you want to come to the Captain's quarters for dinner sometime?"

In came the typical 'uh' out of Ryder. He always felt a little awkward in interactions to begin with, but sometimes it was much worse. Like right now. "... Sure? Wouldn't you think the Captain would want a say in that?"

"Well sure, I'll ask him. I don't think he'll have a problem with it." Eden shrugged. "I'll leave you a message." Eden stood up to leave.

"Sounds... good to me..." Ryder gave a small frown as he looked to his console. "I'll keep an eye out for it, then."

"Right . . . well bye" She gave a half wave and headed toward the door and back to Sebastian's quarters.

Ryder is such an awkward duck. I love him.
