Uneasy Bridge Apperance

Mission: Ishimura
Location: USS Ishimuru, Main Bridge
Timeline: 2243
790 words - 1.6 OF Standard Post Measure

Sebastian stepped onto the bridge surprised at how few people were there at that time of day. He was sure that there should have been more but his head was spinning he couldn’t even remember what he was doing on the bridge. “Good Evening Ensign.” He said to the woman sat at the comms station.

"Don't sneak up on me like that," Kendra jokingly scolded. She had been listening to some deep space chatter that had been picked up from a subspace transmitter. The communications officer had been lost in the sounds as she tried to adjust the translation matrices to decode the language. "Find anything interesting on the surface?"

"Nothing overly Ensign. I could not sleep so thought I would catch up." He lied as he moved stiffly to his chair and sat down. "What are you working on?"

"Haven't figured it out yet," Kendra nodded as she pointed to the console before her. She twisted a few nobs and pressed a few command buttons. "Looks like some kind of long range communication, it's coded to use tones and sounds to replace words."

"How... unique?" The man commented on sounding off at the moment. Maybe it was the accident on the surface or maybe it was the lateness of the hour but the Captain did not sound right at all. "Can I listen?" He requested.

"Sure," Kendra nodded. While she knew that she had experience and training that Sebastian did not possess, she also realized that fresh ears could pick up things that tired ears could not. She removed her earpiece to allow the audio to come from her console's speaker. Pressing play, she sat back to see what Sebastian's reaction would be.

The man whirled around hearing tones and sounds. "Where are you picking that up from?" The tone of the Captain sounded off and made a few people turn around and looked interested in something other than the usual routine of being in orbit.

Shaking her head a little, the Communications Officer replied, "It's coming from the Alpha Quadrant, about fifteen lightyears from the Klingon border." She tapped her screen and added, "These do not match any known power, which is what is throwing me. It could be a newly launched exploration probe from a newly space capable species. Or, some kind of new encryption protocol."

"Just take a note of it and track it," Sebastian said almost impatience to get rid of the issue. It was very much not like him, the man was normally a lot more investigative and scientific.

"Want me to send it along to Starfleet Command?" Kendra asked. A little concerned about Sebastian's lack of interest, she followed up with, "Is everything okay?"

"Send it along." The man assured turning to look at the woman properly. "Yes, everything is okay Ensign. I am just tired after the planet below."

Taking that as a hint that he did not want to be bothered, Kendra let it go. With a few button taps, she replied, "Recording has been sent to Starfleet Command for analysis."

"Good. Have there been any more disturbances from the planet? Anymore of the columns of light?" He said using simple phrases for what had been seen and done down there.

Shaking her head, Kendra replied, "It's been quiet for a bit." Being in communications left her wishing she could occasionally be sent out for the more interesting missions instead of just diplomatic events. Curiosity getting the best of her, she asked, "Any idea what caused those events?"

"There should be more." He said under his breath before looking over at her. "No. But I am going to go back down to the surface to find out." Sebastian said quickly, his accent slipping into something thicker for a moment.

"Sir?" Kendra asked. Perhaps it was her training, but she definitely picked up something very wrong with Sebastian's voice. "Just what is going on?" she asked, her concern growing.

The man looked at her carefully and shook his head. "Nothing. It had intrigued me and I want to see more of it." It was simple to him and he was already heading to the door.

"If you say so Sir," Kendra replied. It was rather obvious that she was being purposefully left out of whatever was happening. It was not something that she liked, but there was not anything that she could do about it.

"I do. Good Night Ensign." The man said without another word heading to the turbolift. He was not going to discuss it anymore with a junior when he had much work to do now.
