Eden slipped into Sebastian's quarters once again. Hopefully, she hadn't been noticed. This was becoming a habit, not that it bothered her. She knew he had his reason for wanting to keep this private, though she didn't care about her own career, only his. When he finally came through the doors, she approached him, wrapped his arms around him and buried her face in his chest.
The man froze for a moment looking down at the woman unsure. "I did not expect you here tonight?" Sebastian stated cooly as he looked around the room.
"I know we didn't have plans but it was kind of rough day, I was hoping you wouldn't mind," Eden said, a little surprised at his distracted manner. "Should I not have?" Perhaps he was worried about someone seeing her.
"No... no, it is fine. I just have to do a bit of work after what happened below." The man said thinking back to the planet below. It was an Archaeologist dream, to say the least, but it was distracting him.
"I can be quiet." Eden said. She had rather hoped to cuddle but she had stashed some knitting here and being near him might help. She took it out and sat down on the sofa wondering if he would sit there with her or at the desk.
The quiet man watched her for a moment before he sat at the desk and silently brought up what he needed to finish. It was the report but for the life of him, he just could not remember what had happened. "Eden? What happened?"
Eden frowned slightly. "We started to turn back when we realized the light was coming for us. It broke up and came down in shards. They started to strike us and as soon as they hit we seemed to fall to the ground unconscious. Why, you don't remember?"
Sebastian frowned and scrubbed at his face trying to make sense of it. He could vaguely remember the light but nothing was solid until he got back to ship. "I do not know. Just tired I guess. Odd sort of day getting off the ship for once."
"Okay," Eden said, setting aside her knitting and getting up from her chair. She stood behind Sebastian and began to rub his shoulders, loosening up any tension he might be feeling. "I bet, you probably feel married to the ship and never get to leave."
The man winced as she touched a sensitive spot but he allowed her to continue pushing past the pain. It was needed if he was going to settle down. "Sometimes and the Science Officer in me appreciates getting a chance to dig around in the ruins."
"I bet," Eden grinned. "I'm sure you were adorable running around getting all excited about what you had discovered after I wandered off. Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work, you think? Because that sounds like something I'd do."
"It was just nice to get back to my roots." He mused. It was not every day you found things like they had on the planet.
"Why did you ever decide to go for your own command if you loved science so much?" Eden asked, taking her hands off his shoulders and running her fingers through his hair.
The man lent back and pressed himself against her. "Because when you are science you have someone telling you when and where to go." He revealed. "I can tell people to a point where we are going. Lots more freedom."
Eden smiled down at him. "Well I'm glad you haven't lost your sense of curiosity. It's obviously what attracted you to me." She was thinking about the first time they'd spoke off the bridge when she had those papers spread all over a table in the mess hall. And the time in the cargo bay when he'd caught her climbing the shelving.
"It would be a very sad day when I do that." He mused. He frowned and looked back ahead as he tried to focus. "How was your day other than the surface below." He was looking forward to going back tomorrow and looking further into the ruins and the light effect.
"Long," Eden answered him. He didn't need to know specifics, in fact, she was beginning to think it was a mistake, her coming here at all. She wasn't doing anything to help him finish his report. She was a huge distraction. "I think I might just go to bed. Do you mind if I stay here and sleep?"
Sebastian nodded. That was fine by him. He would never mention it but he enjoyed the nights she slept here. It felt like it was something less secretive, almost a normal relationship. “I won’t be long I promise.” He assured.
"Okay," Eden nodded, bending down to kiss him on the cheek and headed toward the bedroom. She undressed, pulled on some pyjamas she kept in his quarters and slipped into his bed. She was asleep within minutes.
Sebastian watched her leaving the living area and her shadow moving around with a smile before he returned to his work. The report about the surface was getting nowhere, he did not know the words or how to explain it to Starfleet. It was a lost cause so he brought up the pictures he had taken of the day. He got lost in the beauty of the deadly place, the experience was not one he would forget about for a long time.
The Captain frowned as a burning feeling started in his stomach before spreading through this body instantly leaving him clutching the desk bent over. Sebastian slipped to the floor silently fitting for a few moments before it stopped and his eyes opened, flashing red. He looked around confused for a long moment before realisation hit him and stood up, a slow grin forming on his face. He needed to get back to the planet that moment and left the as quarters and the sleeping woman behind. There was so much work to be done now.
