1106 words - 2.2 OF Standard Post Measure

It was not often that Alexis was woken by an alert on her comms unit but she instantly woke peeling herself awake from her bed and chucked on a tee over her vest top and shorts. Activating the communication, she was confused to see first the insignia of the Titania and then Theodore Winslow of all people appear in her quarters. She blinked as he looked at her sat on the couch looking sleepy and confused.

“I did not know who else to call and talk to Lex.” He said by way of greeting to the woman. He had not been sure if she would accept his call but it seemed that she had not even checked who was calling before she had answered. That was her all over, leapt before thinking. It was one of the things he loved about his old friend. She was everything he was not, wild, reckless but she loved without restraint. How Liam had walked away from her he did not know after everything that had occurred.

Alexis pursed her lips, it had been years since they had been friends and even longer since they had communicated like this. The man despite his reservation over her hellion lifestyle in the middle of her grief over Liam had always been the one pulling her back from the ledge, taking her home when she had, had too much and being the silent bodyguard when she was making poor lifestyle choices. He stood there in gym clothes but looked fully awake.

A million questioned swirled around her head but the biggest one was what was he doing there on the Titania? Hadn't he gone to the USS Io? “What are you doing on the Titania Theo?” She wondered seeing how lost he looked. She wished she was seeing this on the screen instead of the man appearing in her quarters. She just wanted to hug the lost little thing.

“I got transferred. Well no that is not correct. I asked for the transfer everything just went so wrong for me. You know the USS Io blew up right? I was accused of that.” He said bitterly. He was still hurting over that mess, the days spent under house arrest, the beating he had endured thanks to the suspicion and the eventual realization of everyone who had said or been nasty to him had been so wrong. He would have never been that person, he loved the federations, he was the model officer. Someone had used that against him.

“You!?” The woman muttered surprised sitting up more. Theo was Starfleet through and through, he reminded her so much of her new Executive Officer that it had made her wonder often since meeting him if that was why she gravitated towards him like a lost little ship.

“Yeah someone stitched me up good. I could not stay on Haumea after that. It was not good for me or my mental health. Would you stay there?” Alexis shook her head now understanding despite the early hours why she had been called instead of anyone else. He wanted to be listened to without judgement. Alexis had never kept track of where he had gone properly, but it seemed Theo had of her to be able to find her in the universe.

“Okay, that is a good response to it all. I am glad you made that choice to move on.” She conceded. She would not have stayed there either. She felt proud that he had made that choice for himself as the old Theo would have stayed there as a form of self-punishment. Maybe there was hope for him yet? “So where are you heading?”

“I cannot say right now but I am sure in the morning you’ll hear it from Ehestri.” He admitted wishing he could tell her where he was going as she would understand but he could not. He had pretty much had to beg through the media blackout to be allowed this call.

“Theo you cannot just ring and then not tell me where the hell you are in the universe. You are really worrying me now. You are the smart one taking the no-risk places, rising steadily.” The female Security Chief argued but it was no good. She knew secrete when she saw it and knew when the man would not budge on something. “Fine, I am just glad to see that you are okay even if this is a venting session.”

“You look well.” He said a little softer, not wanting to have an argument. Their last bitter conversation still rung in his ears, her biting remarks, his devastating retorts. Why did two people who thought so highly of each other spend their last moments expressing such hatred as they had over something so stupid that Theo could not even remember what it had been now but he was sure if he asked the woman she would but he did not want to open that can of worms?

“Best I have been in a long time. Seems I just need to be rocked around the universe and end up back in the right spot.” She mused. It had been a long road but she knew that he would be feeling the same after him and Lucy had broken up. He had been devasted over it what everyone would think whilst she did not care in the slightest. It had run its course.

Theo smiled a little, his mind was on the same thing but he knew better than to dwell. It was water under the bridge now, something that he had hoped to find some solace from on Haumea but that had not come to be. “Theo you will get there.” She told him as a chime from his end-stopped the conversation.

Theo glanced to the left obviously looking at the message before frowning. “Looks like we have arrived. Can I call you again?” He wondered hopefully he might be able to build up an old friendship.

“If the relays allow you sure. Stay safe where ever you maybe.” Alexis nodded at him as the hologram faded away. Well, that had been unexpected.

Theo frowned at the other end of the universe at the call ended and looked at his reflection. Why had he of all people been sent to Obsidian Command? Was this Starfleet's way of testing him? Was he going from the frying pan straight into the fire or did someone know something he did not? He had no time to dwell as he was summoned to his new home. He was sure there would be time later.
