Mission: Mission 6 - Azzia
Location: Dodian's Shop, Azzia
Timeline: MD 09 0700
891 words - 1.8 OF Standard Post Measure

Special Officer Ambika Marwah slowly got out of her ground vehicle and approached the small shop’s door. “She has probably moved out of here and into the Mary Rose, is my thinking.” she said mostly to herself as her hand over the door buzzer, “So this is the most useless waste of my time.” She added trying to convince herself to press that cheap cracked button mere two or three centimeters from her fingertip. “And I am the world’s biggest coward.” Ambika admitted to herself, because she knew if she pressed that stupid ugly cheap button she would finally have broken her vow to be a good honorable police officer, even though she hadn't felt either good or honorable in years.

With her heart pounding she pressed the door buzzer hearing an equally cheap chime from somewhere beyond the door and then nothing; no police cruisers rushing to arrest her, no Azzis streaming down from the heavens to point their fingers at her for breaking the faith with her profession, and most importantly the door in front of her remained shut, in mute acknowledgment of what she was trying to do. With feelings that were a mixture of relief and disappointment she turned to go when the unmistakable sound of a door opening behind her.

Dodian had been tidying up the last of her equipment to take up to the Mary Rose when her door chime rang, "I don't know why I have that thing on my door." she thought to herself followed by a sigh. As the door opened she saw a most unexpected sight, SO Marwah. After the whole debacle on the ship to say she was surprised was an understatement, "What do you want?" she asked.

“I just want you to know right off, I’m a good police officer,” she insisted, saying it out loud so she herself could hear much as it was for Dodian, “I’ve never taken a bribe, though I may have looked away as others were... compensated for services rendered. I don’t even know why I came to see you except... except somewhere out there there’s some very young, very scared little girl who needs our help, and my colleagues seem less that interested in doing anything about it.”

Folding her arms she could tell this woman was honest to a degree but it takes a special kind of gall to show up at the door of someone who earlier had boarded her new home and tried to get information out of her. "What would you have me do Officer? I'm a scientist, not a criminal investigator." In truth she would help of course, if anything for the little girl as she was once a scared little girl whom no-one came looking for.

“I know that Dr. Carli. I NEED a scientist.’ Ambika replied, “Hell, I could use an engineer, a medical doctor and a forensic expert if you have any handy.” Seeing the wary confusion on Carli’s face, “It’s easier if a show you.”

Leading Dodian back to her ground vehicle, Ambika popped the trunk revealing a couple of cardboard boxes marked ‘Evidence.’ “I just rescued all this.” The officer signed knowing she'd need to explain, “According to the records, I requested it to be destroyed sometime late last night after I logged out. He clerk called me up this morning to confirm that what I wanted to do, which would be insane for an open investigation. I went down and signed everything out of the evidence locker.” Meeting Dodain face, "Somebody doesn’t want that little girl, or your people found Dr. Carli, and as much as I've had lived with trying to 'protect and serve' I can't cut some poor kid lose like that. So can you help me? I'm desperate.”

"So your people are corrupt enough to destroy evidence in an ongoing case? Evidence that may help to find a little girl, a child?!" she could feel her emotions bubbling to the surface, a single tear cascading down her face. She had been left to the hounds once before, well many times before and she would not stand by and let another face a similar fate. There would be no-one like her in this galaxy if she could help it.

"No, not all of us, not all the time." Ambika was tired, too tired for this but she knew she had to explain "Most are good, most want to "solve the case,'and 'get the bad guys.' But this case was marked NPI, No People Involved from the get go. I think the reason why,,,,, Look Doctor, I'd love to explain to you all the ins and outs of my people's social problems but every minute I waste is another minute closer to nobody coming home. So please will you help me?"

"I will help you." Dodian replied, clearing he throat and trying to compose herself. "If the Azzian authorities can be as corrupt as you are implying then how can I say no? I will not let another child fall through the cracks of society!" she almost yelled as her voice level rose due to her emotional attachment already.
