Mess Hall

In the mess the assembled crew couldn't help but hear the calls 'Medical Emergency crew deck', 'civilian down' the police comm units, or see the look of nervous uncertainty on the troopers faces as a dejected voice came over the comm several minutes later telling someone to 'Wave off the Meat Wagon' which didn't seem to bode well for the downed civilian.

Quang looked over at the four disspirited "apes". They were eyeing the crew nervously. At the same time, you could tell they weren't sure of how to react. He had seen this before, in Ho Chi Minh City and the Dominion War. It was just a matter of how to play it.

He turned so he was facing the Azzians. It was timed so that the other people in the mess hall would see it as well. One person couldn't save everyone, but a concerted effort would maybe do the trick.

"Hey," he called out and stood up. The Vietnamese didn't move forward but just stood there casually. "You're hearing what's going on there and we are too. We're also hearing orders for your guys to stand down. So did you sign up for what's going on out there?"

Tran paused for a moment and let that sink in. The sound of the chaos outside didn't hurt. "I'm thinking you didn't. I'm also thinking you just want to go home safe and sound. Here's my suggestion. Why don't you just "stand aside". We want to find out what's happened to our fellow crew and friends. We really don't want to hurt anyone. But we need to get out there."

Again the quartermaster paused and let the situation sink in. "So why don't you just stand aside. And we're all good."

The three guards by the door nervously eyed Tran and the fourth officer that had the darken sergeants epaulettes. With a subtle movement of the sergeant's hand, they visibly relaxed. They trusted their sergeant partly because he'd always been fair to them, but mostly because he refused to volunteer them or himself for any of the search teams.

Lifting the riot visor on his helmet, the sergeant looked at the quartermaster with sympathetic eyes, "Please son," he said with a even calm voice, "Go back over to your people, something's gone wrong, and if I let you go there'll be more calls for medical on both sides. That's not good for anyone."

"Son are you kidding me. I bet he is older than you." Leiddem scoffed from the side as he sat on one of the table eating some dessert that he had grabbed on the way through the mess hall.

The sergeant looked at Leiddem then back to Tran, while the quartermaster hadn't backed down, he also wasn't escalating the situation. "Now listen let's not all," he started to say when the emergency recall buzzed in his ear. Nodding to is men he looked back at Tran and Leiddem, "I'm pretty sure your injured crewmen is on deck 'X' section 'Y.'" He said looking somewhat ashamed at the farce he'd been roped into, "That's where breach team two was assigned. I'd advise one or two of you to get whatever medical kit you have and get down there, and for what it's worth," he added as he touched his comm and started to disappear in a transporter beam "I'm sorry."
