Storm Seekers

Mission:
Mission 12 - Railway
Location: USS Cosmos - Mess Hall
771 words - 1.5 OF Standard Post Measure
Ledeya frowned as she walked into the mess hall and saw both men sat at different ends of the mess hall despite how silent the room was. It was unusual to see the Marine Commanding Officer there but not completely unheard of. She walked over Levi and sat down in front of him and smiled strained. “You have a moment Major?” She wondered knowing he would drop anything but she would at least be polite about it.
"Commodore." Levi motioned to the seat she was already taking. He stared at her expectantly.
“Well, it seems we have a problem on the surface. Come on I just want to explain once.” She admitted looking over at Ryon and indicated for him to follow as she sat in front of her Chief Strategic Operations Officer.
The Bajoran followed the Commodore's motion and took his seat at one of the other empty seats. Ryon hunched over a little so that he could better hear what was going on without drawing suspicion, it was a habit he developed at a young age during his time with the Bajoran resistance to the Occupation that seemed to die hard as old habits seemed to do.
“Ryon there is a problem below. I need both of your assistance.” She said without even giving him a chance to ask what was going on. “The team going down to repair the weather controller never made it to the meetup point.”
"I can prep a search-and-rescue squad," Levi nodded. "What else do we know?"
Now, this was where it got worrying as they did not know much. "Nothing. Apart from the science group split into three groups to transport down to the surface and two of them never arrived. The communication is spotty on the surface all I know is Lieutenant Karis is the one who has reported it and then communication went silent, the surface is ionized more than usual. We just have to hope they can repair the weather control systems quickly and the planet can be put back onto some stablished weather pattern. It could be Commander Mitchel, Commander Agrax, Commander Dariars Petty Officer Dezom or Crewman Xurver or a combination.”
The mention of Lieutenant Karis being in danger made Ryon's blood run cold. Yet, his experience as both a Commanding Officer and Commodore himself forced him to push any personal feelings deep as to not interfere with the importance of the mission or the other lives that could be in jeopardy. "And we don't know who is with who, nor do we have a good location on any of the groups?" he asked to clarify.
"So we don't know numbers or names." Levi shook his head, but didn't comment further. The Commodore knew as well as he did that it wasn't a great position to be sending a marine team into. "We'll drop in a couple of shuttles - do some low-level flybys. But...it could take hours. Maybe days, if the storms are bad."
"We know Leiutant Karis is safe." That was the only thing they knew as she was the one reported that some people had no arrived. It was not much but it was a start.
Nodding, Ryon knew the score. "A needle in a haystack would have better odds," he solemnly stated. He ran through some past experiences in his head. "When I was a tactical officer on the, well first time on the Cosmos, we lost a team deep within a cave system that contained a mineral that blocked biological scans. We found them by scanning for the materials inside commbadges." He looked out the viewport to the planet below for a moment before adding, "It won't be much, but it would give our shuttle flybys a slightly better chance of pinging our teams."
Ledeya could remember vaguely that happening as a new ensign onboard the Cosmos. It felt like it was another lifetime ago now, it was her life as a doctor before everything had taken a quick sharp left turn. “How long would that take to arrange with the shuttles?” She wondered softly knowing it could take a little bit of time. “I am hoping the team that are at the planets weather control is able to tame the storm and allow us to search better.” She really hoped that the Engineering Chief was there with Karis. It would not happen if he was not.
"Put one of your tech people on the shuttles with my teams, it might reduce the search time. Maybe rule out some places, too," Levi noted. "Give me thirty to round-up a couple of squads."
