The all-female part made their way along a path that was barely discernible through the weeds and grasses that had reclaimed it recently apart from the footprints from the crew that had been there the previous day. Unlike last time it was dead silence as they passed unkempt gardens and the wild overgrown bushes that the colony was now becoming since its occupants had disappeared four months previously. It was not long until the small group saw the open grounds of where archaeological digs had been carried out. Cassie led the group to where the signs were of where the group had collapsed when crystals had rained down on them.
“See.” Cassie pointed to where now in the daylight they could see a stone staircase down into whatever was below. “The Captain’s footprints lead down to there. Do you two..." She pointed at the two men who were acting strange and indicated the whole site. "Remember what happened here before? Come on it is time to talk."
"Not really. I never set foot down this way. But my job was mostly arboreal work," Carter - or rather the spirit occupying his body - announced.
"Scan and record everything," Sura said to the science officer. "We have to continue on to find the Captain. Let's go."
"Wait," David, or rather Elena speaking through him, said. "I... can't remember but ...I was there. I was on the dig. We had uncovered a deep chamber..." She shook David's head. "Nothing's clear after that."
"A deep chamber." Sura looked at her science officer again. "Can you scan that deep?"
Cassie frowned and crouched to look over the edge despite the security officer in the groups warning her that it might not be the best idea. She looked up at the woman and rolled her eyes, there was something odd about this Ame Vovihl always there when something was going down or something was not quite right but there was nothing she could prove. “Nope. It is far to far down Sir.” The readings were all over the place. “There is something down there but what I can not tell you.”
"We'll have to proceed carefully, then," Sura replied. "Watch out for anything unusual." She led the way into the opening and started to head down the stone staircase.
“I will go first, Sir.” Ame, the security officer told her firmly. She was the one who was meant to go first before them all and she was the one with the rifle. The walk down was slow and silent but as they got to the bottom of the steps it led off to where they could see light. Ame turned to look at the group indicating her ears. She could hear muttering that sounding like Sebastian but it was not in his tone or dialect.
“I will help you all. I just need to figure out what happened.” He could be heard to say further down the corridor. "What do you want to do?"
“Who is he talking to?” Cassie whispered. Ame did not take any notice and quickly stepped around the corner taking in the fact there was no one there apart from a never stopping flow of the shards of crystal.
"Sorry, sir." The security officer said stunning him to the floor as he turned and raised his own weapon at them. Ame was not making the same mistake again.
