Cassie stood there among the refugees for a long while looking at Michael as he slept. The Vulcan human hybrid had never seen sickbay as full as it was now so no one really noticed her among the crowds, especially anyone who really cared about her presence. It was to be expected that eventually, she would turn up there now that the disaster was over and they were all back in their own bodies.

Cassie had confronted Gregnol over it but the man had a point it would have been a distraction that was not needed but it had taken Vinny to confirm that Jonathan was not in sickbay and nor could any record of him be found so that meant he was not onboard. So where was he? She waited until he was starting to stir and shook him hard bringing him back to the here and now.

Micheal grunted in pain as he felt someone grip his left arm in a steel-like grip. Out of pure instinct and long years of hard training, he came up swinging. His large right fist swing up and over his powerfully built chest, only to stop a mere two inches from the face of a woman he knew well and considered family. "Cassie? What the hell?!" He asked the question as he lowered his fist and tried to calm down.

Cassie did not even wince as he nearly hit her. “Where is Nathen?” She demanded once he was awake enough to listen to her.

Seeing the pain in her eyes, Micheal's heart hurt for both her and his friend, Johnathen. Sitting up on the biobed, he was careful not to disturb his healing injuries too much. "Cassie, I honestly don't know. The last time I saw him was as I was beaming over to the other ship. Then, I got sucked into a wormhole that dropped me back in the damn Andromeda Galaxy. I haven't even been able to get down to my shuttle yet to try and find any clues!"

“Rebecca has already spoken to Gregnol and came to that conclusion as she is now back together. So no one had any information over my husband and the fact he has been missing for a year.” Cassie said stepping back and letting go of his shirt as he sat up. She would leave him intact if only allow Dixoho to kill him fully, it would be sweeter allowing the tiny human to do it once she finally realised. The look on her face would have scared anyone who did not know her. “He left with you because he trusts you.” She said angrily.

Micheal looked to the deck, deep in thought, when he heard about Rebecca getting back into his ship. He shook his head, looking back up into Cassie's face. The look of regret filling his features. 'I'm sorry, Cassie. Truly, I am. As soon as I am physically able, you have my word that I will not rest until he is home, with you." He shook his head slowly and replied to her barb. "I know. And I trust him, with my life. We will find him, I promise you that, whatever it takes. He belongs here, by your side, not lost, out there somewhere. I would gladly give my life to bring him home."

The young woman nearly lept forward and grabbed him by the shirt again but held herself back just about and put her hands in her flight suit pockets. Looking at him she almost felt pity for the state he was in but the words to speak it stopped in her throat as she thought about her husband lost out there somewhere. “Stop saying you are sorry. I am not the one you need to be saying that too.” She pointed out. “And I do not want your help looking. You stole my husband twice on foolhardy missions. Your luck was bound to run out.”

Micheal flinched at Cassie's words. He couldn't blame her for her anger. However, he didn't appreciate her claim of him stealing Johnathen. The pilot was his own man, who made his own decisions. "I understand and appreciate your pain, more than you can know, Missus Anderson. However, your anger is a bit misplaced. Your husband is an adult. As such, he makes his own choices. I, nor anyone else I imagine, can force him to do anything that he does not want to do. He could have told me no. However, he saw a friend and crewman in need of assistance, so he agreed to go with me. When we find him, and we will find him, you can express your anger about him leaving to him. As far as helping to find him, as I am an adult, and a member of this crew, I will be doing everything in my power to find him and bring him home." His tome left no room for the younger woman to argue the point. One thing he never did, was leave a friend in trouble. If Cassie had a problem with that, as far as the angry Texan was concerned, she could go scratch.

Cassie shook her head. “No. I'm not some little girl you can yell at either and call by my married name. He doesn’t define me.” She was not even sure why she had even taken a human surname if she was honest, but there was no time to think about that now when she had rage coursing through her wanting out for the first time in a very long time. “Every time anyone ever gets close to you, nobody has a normal life again. And you know what really—and I mean it—really pisses me off? What took you so long? Do you even know Dixoho is dying?” Her usual airy accent turned into the thick Scottish accent that she normally kept under wraps.

Micheal was starting to get tired of Cassie's misplaced anger. He was about to lay into her about how dare she accuse him of being the cause of the pain that came to the ship, when she mentioned how Dixoho was dying. His Dixoho. This news instantly deflated him. His features instantly changed from defensive anger to complete loss and anguish. "Wha..." he stumbled for the words as he physically buckled, collapsing against the biobed. In a whisper, he responded. "No..not Di...she...she can't...she can't die." The whole world seemed to fade to white noise as his mind started to scream in anguish.

It was not well known at all but to her who could smell people she could tell the woman was getting worse due to the medication not being onboard and not able to be gotten anywhere. “So, whilst you were off playing out in the universe things were bad here. Our medical officers ran off and did not order any medication in the only place we could get it.” Cassie said having a weird feeling of satisfaction watching him suffering for just a moment before she shook her head. She did not like the feeling much, it ached in her stomach and twisted about making her feel nauseous. “Well, she is.” She confirmed bitterly.

Hearing the hybrid accuse him of playing around, Micheal's anger renewed, as if fresh fuel was added to the fire. With adrenaline-fueled strength, the weakened Texan stood up, glaring down into the woman's defiant eyes. In a dangerous growl, he quietly said, "You are very lucky that you are a woman. If you were a man, you would be picking your teeth up off the damn deck. Here I thought Vulcans was supposed to have great memories. Guess memory is controlled by your human half."

"I wasn't off playing, as you say. I was hunting down the man ultimately responsible for not only Di's and my abduction, but the man who hired the piece of shit that broke into my home, raped and murdered my wife, then murdered my two infant children." He took a menacing step forward. "If you ever demean their memory again, I will forget that I'm a gentleman." His chest was heaving as he struggled to maintain control. "Now," he whispered, full of hurt and venom. "Leave...me...alone."

Cassie just looked at him with distaste and defiance. She was never going to forgive and she was never going to forget this and she most certainly did not need his help in finding Johnathen now that she knew he was in trouble "You say that but I do not believe a thing that comes out of an angel of deaths mouth." She spat turning and leaving. She had said her piece to the right person and she felt better for it enough that she would not need Burnie to be her sober partner. Her work had really begun now.

Micheal was about to say something, but, the woman stormed out before he could say another word. As his anger began to ebb, he started to feel just how weak he still was. Carefully, he laid back down onto his biobed, his mind racing. Had he forced Johnathan into going with him? Had he used their friendship incorrectly? When Johnathan was ultimately found and returned to both the ship and his wife, would the young pilot forgive Micheal? Would he share Cassie's anger towards him?

More importantly, how could Di be dying?! Why would Reuben allow that? The Russian was nearly as protective of the young Trill as Micheal was. What the hell had happened to the world he left behind a year ago?

This was very well done. If Cassie finds herself needing a non-alcohol outlet for emotions, Liha could use a sparring partner to help get used to moving in her own body again.
