Selina stood in the observation lounge staring out the window as the night's activity and rumour mill died down and people either passed out on the deck or stumbled back to their quarters. She was silently watching the ship that had been destroyed. Debris float lazily past the window. A few days and it would be nothing but atoms having been grabbed by the planet's atmosphere and burned up. The last vestige of an attempt to bargain with the empire. When would they learn? “If you watch me any longer I am sure I can give you a private showing.” The woman commented now even turning around to look at the only person left awake in the room.
From his seat, Kyle had observed the entire celebration. While the Captain had not been seen since he stormed off the bridge, following the incident with Selina, the Executive Officer had remained, at a respectful distance, from the strikingly beautiful Betazoid. He had never moved to say a word to her, or stop her from moving wherever she wished to go, he merely remained on the periphery, watching. "I did not mean to make you uncomfortable, Selina." He finished his Altair water and placed the glass on the nearest table, as he moved to watch the debris field through the next viewport, a few feet to Salina's right. "I hope that your throat is healing."
Selena shrugged. Why did he care? Was not the first time that a Terran officer had bruised her and it would not be the last. Terran men or women did not really care that they hurt them; it was just part of the routine now. Selena did not really mind it was a whirlwind in her mind now. Every cut and bruise told the story of her life and the road that she had walked and the choices she had made to get to that single moment.
“It will heal eventually.” She murmured touching the collar of her long gown that was hiding the bruises.
Nodding slowly, Kyle continued to gaze out of the viewport. In a quiet voice, he offered, "For what it's worth, Selina, I am sorry for the treatment you recieved."
Selina glanced towards him and rolled her eyes. The man was trickier than a hobgoblin, he shifted more than she liked. She liked to know where she stood with men and women of the Imperial Starfleet; it was easier to gauge how they were going to react towards her and her fellow interrogators. She did not have time for mind games that men like to play. She was fully aware that she was the person on board that played them better than most so she saw a kindred spirit. “No you are not and if you are you are foolish. You just wish it was you who gave me these bruises hidden under my dress.”
Taking in a deep breath and then letting it back out, he responded. "I may be many things, my dear lady. Foolish is not one of them." He allowed her to feel his honesty as he continued. "As for the rest, we will just have to agree to disagree." He knew that she didn't trust him. At least, not yet. Perhaps in time that would change.
Selina snorted again as she watched some more the debris float by. It was wonderful to watch sometimes but it just filled her with dread as she knew the next steps were going to be testing for them all. “You are by coming here. No one picks to serve under the butcher they do not survive long. Three executive officers in a year.” Selina commented, turning to where her glass of wine was waiting for her to return. She took a large gulp of the deep black liquid looking at him intently. “We will have to. You might have Alexis wrapped around your little finger but not me.”
Chuckling softly, Kyle responded. "Others have failed because they weren't strong enough to serve as the Captain's number one. While I admit my own faults, I feel that I am different." He then turned to give Selina a level gaze. "As for the status of my relationship with Alexis, that is between the two of us. So kindly mind your place." There was a level of protective heat, for Alexis, in his voice as he spoke.
Selina was sure that he thought he was going to succeed but the proof was in the pudding if she remembered the Terran phrase properly. Terran language was fickle sometimes.
“Well I am sure this ship will allow you more time to think on your faults before it kills you.” She assured before snorting into her wine as his reply when he commented about Alexis.”Commander, I am sorry that you think it’s private but nothing is private to Betazoids anymore. It is part of being an interrogator.” Her and Alexis had also been friends and roommates before Betazed was burned.
Shrugging slightly, he replied. "I guess we will just have to see then. I have been through one version of hell after another. When it's my time to go, and the Reaper comes to take me to Valhalla, I will know, in my heart, that I did the best that I could. And back to the subject of Alexis and myself. What she chooses to share is her business, she isnt my property to control, nor would I want her to be. For myself? I would never discuss elements of a private nature with someone outside of said relationship." He stepped a step closer and gave her a lever stare.
"Of course, as Chief Interrogator, if you feel that my thoughts require closer scrutiny, as a loyal officer of the Empire, it would be my duty to submit to your investigations."
Selina laughed that any Terran thought they were going to any version of heaven. They were all going to burn in hell for their misdeeds. “Your mind is open to me as an Imperial Starfleet Officer for the Empire. The Empress has made it a requirement for all senior officers of this flagship if I wish. I do not wish right now but I am sure Captain Gregnol with sooner or later as you are not his choice.” She reminded him with a smirk. It was sometimes the best part about her job that she could bring Terran Officers down a peg or two.
Kyle did not budge, or seem to be bothered in the slightest. In fact, he continued to stare at Selina as if he could see right through her. The two were silent gor several moments. Then, he frowned slightly and sighed, seemingly disappointed. "I see. It's finally perfectly clear to me. You are afraid of what you can't control. I am not one of your boy toys for you to control and make bring you everything you desire. You say that you don't wish to read my thoughts? The truth is you are afraid that, when you do, you will find something that you are unused to. An actual, honorable Terran. One who always keeps his word and only fights those that directly threaten him." He shook his head. "Such a waste." He then turned without saying another word and left the compartment, leaving Selina alone with her thoughts.
