Mission: Shackles

Gregnol ran along the ship's corridor with Shario in tow out into the open of the makeshift camp. They had managed to get a message to the ship and Jeassaho and Nollel were going to send help but they had no idea how long that was going to be when the survivors of the second Orion vessels were already on their way. He had no doubt they would hurry but the shuttle that had survived the confrontation with SS Mary Rose.

“I got through to the ship using the emergency beacon that summoned the Orion’s. Jea and Livaam have been fighting a scouting party, which is who has come down here.” Gregnol said as he nearly bounded into the crew that were creating barriers and arranging things. “What have we set up?” The man checked, looking at the group.

"Barricades going up, as you can see," Burnie reported, gesturing. "Fortunately, we brought two fairly paranoid Romulans down with us, so we have several arms and a few perimeter traps. Not as much as I'd like - the traps are mostly just to protect a campsite, but they'll slow an advance and make at least few of attackers sitting ducks. I'd suggest putting the folks who aren't as well qualified with phasers in positions near those. Sadly, I was talked out of bringing enough explosives to make a useful minefield, but I've rigged some grenades and I can put a line of explosive wire across any areas we can't barricade well enough." He grinned a little, thinking of how his old friend Rogers would probably suggest using it. "Or any we want to make look weak so the Orions are more likely to come at us there."

“And you are happy with the work?” Gregnol asked the Yazlin as Mina came into view carrying a pile of weapons that used to belong to the rangers stash.

“I thought you might need these.” She said gently. Gregnol took several of the weapons from Mina and handed them out to the group.

"What about the topography? Perhaps somewhere that's ideal for an ambush, like high ground?" Jake suggested, digging into his own tactical training.

Yazlin had her marksman rifle slung across her back and took one of the offered weapons from the pile. "We've set up three tiers of defence." She pointed at the high ground that Jake referred to. "We can see most of the approach from there, it's where I'll be with a spotter and support. It'll funnel them into the only place out of line of sight" She pointed at a natural outcropping that would normally be avoided but if sheparded right they'd have no choice to take it. "It's an ideal spot for any explosives we did happen to bring..." then looking at Mina, "Or salvage." She checked the disruptor she just picked up and fiddled with the settings a bit, "last step is to fall back into the base. The walls that are already set up and the structures will allow us some hit and run tactics. Unless they brought a battalion, they won't make it." She made a show of charging the disruptor, "let's met them regret setting foot on this planet."

Kali, nearby toggling the settings on a weapon she'd grabbed from the stash, flashed a wide grin at Yazlin, Jake, and Burnie, apparently thoroughly agreeing with that sentiment.

"Jeassaho said it was a shuttle from a ship they destroyed as the ship attacked them," Gregnol explained. Jeassaho had sounded saddened by whatever had happened in defending the ship. There would be time for him to comfort her later on once they had solved the problem down here. "I can't imagine it is more than ten. Orion shuttles aren't designed for many."

With just ten, perhaps fifteen in a pinch, enemies Yazlin was actually quite confident she'd be able to hold them off with just the Romulans or the explosion happy Engineer as support. In this case she wanted to make sure nothing was left to chance though. And with the people and resources they had, barring any unforeseen setbacks, it should be easy to thwart them. "We don't have much time. For the last step we need to divide into teams. Hit and run. Let's not get caught in prolonged firefights." She looked around the gathered group, "Ford, you take the first team. Captain you take the second. Once I retreat from the high ground my spotter and my will join the second team." She pointed between the command team of the ship, "I'm sure you can divide up the people here into effective fire teams. I'll take Mina with me up the hill."

At Yazlin's description of the split, Kali stepped slightly towards Jake, without waiting for further orders - from what she'd see, Jake and Liha weren't a great combination to have in a small combat team together (unless they were somehow channeling their angst at each other into offing the other side), and if she could end run that possibility it might be the best option.

With a small 'I saw what you did there' eyebrow tip to Kali, Liha stepped over to Gregnol and unslung her disruptor rifle. "Come on, between the two of us, we can probably take out most of them."

Gregnol smirked a little. “I suspect we can.” It had been long time since the man had, had an opportunity to do anything security related since he Jake and now Yazlin. Them being onboard had made him soft in someways.

Burnie looked form one self-selected team to the other. No way he was getting in the middle of either dynamic. "I'll hold down the fort. Someone needs to be here to blow up anyone who makes through."

"All right. Be careful, they're going to be on their guard already - and even more so once we go loud," Jake said. He glanced at Kali. "Unless we think we can get a couple of silent takedowns in? It'd be a little more risky, and we might have to get up close and personal."

"Ehhh....Maybe." Kali's hand flipped side to side for a moment in a 'so-so' sort of gesture. "I wouldn't count on it though; doubt you last long in the pirate life if you're that easy to ambush."

"Maybe, but a thrown knife is pretty quiet." Liha slid a knife out of her sleeve and grinned.

"We'll judge when we get closer then. Let's move out," Jake nodded.

It was not long until the sound of a group of people’s footsteps started in the distance and were getting closer and closer. There was no chatter or anything as they stepped through grass and over the trees.

"If you guys are going to flank them, you best get moving," Burnie picked up a phaser rifle and went to the barrier. "I'll keep them focused this way once they get close enough."

"It's an unnecessary risk." Yazlin remarked, "They have to come through here to get to the crash site. They're motivated to do so. They'll know there's some kind of defense. As soon as people start dropping it's the same effect quietly as loudly. If I were them I'd have random and regular check ins as well as someone in ops monitoring our biometrics." She pointed Mina in the direction of their high ground, "You heard Burnstein." She looked around the group again to make sure they understood what she expected them to do.

"I doubt they're monitoring much of anything, for the same reason we have no comms or transport down here," Liha reminded, shouldering her weapon. "If we could pick up their biometrics with tricorder scans, like we'd do on a planet without all this interference, Burnie would have fabbed some rough drones to drop explosives on them before they ever got within shooting range."

“They’ll have nothing than what is in the shuttle from their escape but I can only hear maximum of eight people.” Gregnol commented in a whisper as he instructed pointing the way they needed to go.

"There's probably more. I wouldn't be surprised if they split their forces to attack from multiple points, and are making noise for the obvious thrust," Liha observed, heading out after Gregnol. A slow smile spread her lips as she tapped a pointed ear. "But once we're out there, I doubt the rest can stay silent enough."
