Braden was told who to see to get his quarters assigned and he strode through the ship to locate the office. He liked this older ship, it had character and a history. He wondered how much action this ship had seen in its life span. He knocked on the doorframe before entering so as not to surprise the pretty woman inside. "Excuse me, I was just hired as a science officer. I was informed you would assign me quarters. Might you also be the person to speak to for having my equipment and tools brought aboard? I am guessing you have a Science lab?" He sort of rambled as his eyes looked into hers. She had friendly eyes.
The barely seventeen-year-old looked up with a start as she someone stood in the doorway.Need to get that door fixed, She thought to herself before indicating he could come in. "Rueben hired you and sent you to me with no warning." She said with a roll of her eyes. "As 'a' Science Officer or 'the' Science Officer?" She wondered with a small smile as she took him in trying to discern his ramble.
"The word Chief did come up, but I was not sure how important that might be? Do you have many Science Officers aboard?" His eyebrow rose on the right side with a curious expression. "I did not think the crew very extensive here." Which was one of the reasons Braden hired on, a few people might be easier to get used to? He smiled "Chief Science officer Braden MacCloud reporting for quarters Miss."
"Well, Starfleet let's see what we have." She teased a little, they seemed to be getting a lot of former Starfleet Officers through here at the moment she thought mildly amused as she stood up revealing just how small and petite she was as she went to the wall with the ship charts on. Ever since she had become the only ship's secretary things had become a lot more organised.
He bristled at being called Starfleet. Mostly because it was inaccurate than because of any special affection for any branch of service. "Take your time Miss, I do not see any reason to rush here. maybe someday in the future, we may need to, but for now, it seems pretty laid back." He took note of how young she looked and figured she was the kid of someone in the crew. "Since we will likely cross paths time to time what name do you go by? Any nicknames? Rank?"
"Oh sorry, I am Reessem." She turned realising in her amusement that she had forgotten to actually introduce herself. She strode back across the room t him and held out her hand.
Braden took her hand gently and lifted it. He kissed the back of her hand lightly "I am happy to meet you Reessem. Please call me Braden." He released her hand and nodded his head "so now we have met where are you putting me? I would like close to wherever I will be working. If that is not possible then close to the messhall would be a nice secondary choice." He smiled in an attempt to convey he was trying to be humorous.
The teenager blushed brightly before pulling her hand away and quickly turning back to the old fashioned paper chart of the ship that showed compartments and the other inner workings. There was one here and one in the Chief Engineers Office.
"You are on Deck 4, Compartment 406," She said softly turning to look at him with a small smile. "You don't have any neighbours at the moment."
"In that case maybe if you are available we can meet in the messhall for dinner and you can introduce me to some of the other crew? If it is bot too much to ask?" I imagine you know everyone aboard." He was still going on the assumption she had grown up on the ship and was some senior person's grown up child. Besides he thought it would be fun to escort her to dinner she had blushed so sweetly.
"Um... sure." It was true she did know pretty much everyone on the ship as she had been one of the first people onboard. "I guess that is true as The Captain employed me before the majority of the crew were here." She admitted taking a note of a few things from the chart to make a file for the new crew member.
"Excellent, should I meet you at the messhall or would you wish an escort to dinner this evening? I am guessing now but I think casual would be in order." Braden watched her eyes as he spoke. He decided he liked her. He hoped they could be friends. He was already thinking of her as a kid sister.
"I'll meet you at the messhall." She chuckled this man didn't have a clue just how casual this ship was. "Do you need showing where your quarters actually are?" She asked grabbing up her cardigan wrapping it around herself. It was dark just like the rest of her clothing.
"Honestly I could find my quarters but if you would like to show me and go for a stretch of the legs I would be honored by the company." Braden stepped outside her office and waited for her in the hall. "You seemed to catch on right fast I was in the service, marines to be precise though. Not a fleet person. Do you have many x-fleet personnel aboard?"
The young French woman followed quickly and silently led the way to the nearest Turbolift. "The only people who are aren't Starfleet in one shape or another I think it is just me and the navigator." She admitted softly holding the door open for him.
"I suppose that makes sense. Starship type skills are not all that easy to come by. If you think about it few people actually go to the stars as more then passengers to somewhere else." The turbolift opened on deck-4 and Braden waited for Reessem to walk out first. He walked beside her to his quarters and nodded. He knew the messhall was on deck-3 but he asked anyway. He had found revealing his ability to remember things had an adverse effect on making friends. People seemed to think he was uppity if he let them see how well he remembered anything. "So deck-3? An hour? To meet for dinner."
The Teenager nodded and looked around awkwardly. "Qui...an hour in the mess hall sounds good to me," She admitted thinking food would be just about ready then. It wasn't a wide range but it provided substance and wasn't the worse she had ever had.
Braden nodded "thank you for the escort. I look forward to dinner and learning whatever you can tell me of ship and crew." Braden opened his door and smiled at her one last time. "See you soon."
