"I guess that might be a problem to remove your shoes here then. We would not want to clear the room. Maybe the next time we get together we can wash your feet and see how things go." His mom had taught him as she loved her feet being massaged. Her scalp as well. The scalp massage was relaxing and Braden had found it helped settle his brother down when he got too tense. Braden had not even thought of that in years, he was sure he still had the touch but it had been a while. "Dance some more or should I walk you home? Ribbit?"
"Oh, well, I suppose we can dance more...Sir Froggie!" Laughing, she kicked her feet up and stood in one quick motion, then twirled around. "Will you share this dance, sir?" Grinning, she bowed and held her hand to him.
"I would be most delighted young lady." He took her hand and spun under her arm with a long stride to get low enough then pulled her into another slow dance step. They were no sooner started then a fast beat song began and they had to hop apart to have room to dance to the new tune. Braden had eyes only for Bettina as she danced with such joy and free spirit.
Never one to conform to convention, Bettina took a few steps with him in the faster-tempoed dance, but then sort of slowed down, forcing him to slow with her. Tempo be danged, she liked the slow dances better, and who was to tell them how fast they had to dance?
Braden slipped an arm around her waist but was still not drawing her in tight. Keeping a polite distance her danced ans swirled around with her slowly. He watched her eyes trying to gauge her mood. He got the feeling she was rebellious and that sort of intrigued him. He definitely was enjoying the feel of her body as she moved to the music in her own manner. This had been a busy morning so he felt good enjoying the evening. He did not speak as he gazed into her eyes, mostly because he had no idea what to say. A saying his mother had told him came to mind It is better to remain quiet and let people think you a fool then to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Unaccustomed to being silent, Bettina nonetheless was comfortable with him and liked being with him, although they had just met, and she knew she'd like to see more of him, if he'd allow it.
And she would be happy for the night to never end, but then she caught a glimpse of the time and gasped. "Oh...man, we lost track of time, didn't we?" Reluctantly, she stopped and stepped back. "I do have report for duty in the morning...well, later in the morning. But...we can do this again, right?" She looked up at him hopefully.
"As often as you would wish and duties allow." Braden smiled offering his hand "might I escort you home Bettina? I have a heavy day tomorrow as well. I picked up supplies today for making the gardens more robust and efficient. I expect to be finishing up my day around 1600hrs though. Should I call on you for dinner?"
"That would be nice." Grinning, she hooked her arm into his. "Gardens? Like herbs and things?" Well, this was an interesting development! "I love gardening, and working with herbals! I wish I'd brought some seeds, but maybe I can get some as we go."
Her mother had taught her some of herbal medicines, and, while she was trained in technological medicine, she was also an advocate of traditional treatments. "I'd love to see it some time."
"Yes, there is a crew member in charge of the gardening, Humili Planita. She was here before me, and I believe the botanical gardens provide much of the food used aboard the ship. I think she might welcome another plant-friendly person." He held the hand of her linked arm as they walked in sync away from the rec hall. He stopped at the turbolift. "If you change your mind about tomorrow night and having dinner, I want you to understand it is okay." He felt he owed her an out, after all this had been a sort of sudden thing developing and he did not want her to feel obligated.
"Oh...I didn't think you were cooking." She looked up at him in concern, shaking her head. "I mean, I guess that would be all right...as a kid I ate mud pies and I've had frogs legs once." Her grin widened. "They were a little...spicy if I recall rightly."
She shrugged and sighed. "Anyway, I promise I won't run out on you, no matter how bad the cooking is!"
It was true Braden had picked up some camping items so he could fix some meals in his quarters but that was not what he had been planning. He would though prepare her a meal, getting food from the messhall. "I shall indeed try my best." He walked her back to her door and out his hands on her shoulders. Turning her at the door to look into her face. "Thank you Bettina for such a warm welcome." He took his hands away and took one of hers lifting it to kiss. "I will see you tomorrow then."
Bettina felt her cheeks flush hot as he kissed her hand, finding the gesture endearing. Of course, she was a romantic, and such simple things fit into her silly notions.
"Tomorrow," she murmured, looking up into his eyes as her cheeks brightened. She flashed a shy smile as she slipped into her cabin, holding her hand, thinking she might never wash it again!
