"Would you like a drink or a snack first? Or just check out the music selection to dance?" Braden was looking around much like a tourist but taking in the entire room to memory.

Her face twisted up for a moment as she mulled it over, then declared, "Honestly, I wouldn't mind getting to the dancing part first." Like, the holding part! And better getting to know him...and getting the pain of tromping and tripping done!

At the dance floor Braden looked to Bettina "you want to pick?" We can take turns." Once the music started Braden proved very light on his feet and was extremely good at not getting his toes stepped on. He was also good at not stepping on hers. He enjoyed holding her with a hand on her hip and another holding her lead hand. He did not press close but danced with a polite distance between them. As they danced he noticed her scent more and more and he enjoyed her being close more and more. He reminded himself time to time he was still but a frog though and resisted pulling her tighter against him.

Despite her ignorance of most dances, Braden was a good partner and was able to coax her along so that she was at least able to keep up and not harm him, and she was actually having a good time. And, as much as she might not mind being a little closer, she appreciated that he wasn't pushing things...as much as she liked the idea of romance, she was a little wary when it actually came down to it.

"You dance divinely!" she quipped as she looked up at him, then she music stopped and she took a step back, still holding his hand. "Waltz was good, shall we try a polka?" She was familiar with the more energetic dance.

"As you wish. Pick the tone and I will follow your lead." Braden thought you needed more people for a polka but hey he was having fun and if she wanted something to kick her heels up a bit who was he to argue. Besides he had already noticed she had great legs. He figured she wanted to make her bells ring anyway. He thought those a weird but fun touch.

One advantage of being alone was that there was no one to crash into, so Bettina could let loose and enjoy herself as they twirled around the floor, using all the available space, and only occasional trips. Her skirts flew and she couldn't get rid of the huge grin on her face, even after she inadvertently 'twirled' out too far and nearly lost her grip on him, managing to grab one hand as she arced out, then let the momentum carry her back, folding her up against his chest in a flurry of giggles!

He caught her in his arms and could feel her heart pounding. "We have to do this often Bettina. Even if I remain a frog in your sight. This is far too much fun to not enjoy often." Braden spun her away and began dancing once more. "When you need a break just say so. No sense getting hurt because you get tired and stumble. His eyes were on her face most of the time but they did drift to her legs when she really got going. For his part he stayed as close as would be proper and watched for her to need a safe. He rather liked the saves as she usually ended up tight against him when she needed spun back in.

Bettina was having fun, but he was right, she was getting a little winded, so as they danced around, she sort of manipulated him a little, getting closer to the bulkhead that was lined with a padded bench, where she finally just flopped down amid swirling colors of material and jingling bells that matched her panting laughter.

"Time out!" she giggled, looking over at him, "I think I need that break now!"

"I think that wise Bettina. Would you like something to drink? Water, tea, something with a bite?" He sat discreetly beside her but his knee did bump hers lightly. "Order me my lady and I shall fetch thee a cool drink." Braden laughed at his poor theatrical quote. "Really I can get us a drink I am not tire as yet."

"Ah, to drink, to dance, a game of chance!" Bettina giggled, gently knocking her knee into his. "That was a silly rhyme...so, you see I don't need 'bite'." Indeed, Bettina did not hold her alcohol well, and she didn't like the taste, nor the way it made her feel.

"I'd take a lemonade, thank you." Straightening on the bench, she drew her legs up under her, then fiddled with arranging her skirt as she watched him, wondering what it was about him that made him so easy to talk to...well, and admiring his form!"

"Lemonade it is then." He strode away toward the bar with a graceful swift stride. Within a few moments he was returning with a lemonade on ice for her and a coke on ice for himself. He handed her lemonade over and clinked his glass, "I like the fizz of a soda, got used to it as a kid and never grew out of it." He sat down beside her. He had to smile at the way she was sitting, it made her appear very young at least to his eye. "I have to say Bettina this evening has turned out far different then I would ever have expected. Thank you." His eyes drank in her heated face and he enjoyed the warm glow coming from her. "I heard we are leaving port tomorrow? Do you need to go soon, to be ready for duty in the morning."

"Honestly, I can't say." Taking a sip of lemonade, she tried to hide the pink tint to her cheeks. "I sort of met Dr. Mott, but the man is quite...odd." She hated to speak ill of a superior, so she added, "He seemed to think I was an intruder and tried to shoot me."

Indeed, the man was confusing, and she wasn't sure what he expected of her, although she hoped that once he was used to her being around he would stop wanting to exterminate her.

"And I agree, this isn't what I had expected, but it's far better than what I had planned. " She rolled her eyes playfully. "I guess I could take a few more minutes with you!"

"Then my cup runneth over with joy." Braden laughed, he avoided speaking of the doctor either way as it seemed like gossip. He never thought gossip was all that healthy for a crew. He sipped his soda so he would finish near the same time as Bettina drank her lemonade. "I noticed a large group boarded, looks like the ship will have a lot of passengers this trip."

"Yeah, I think there's a wedding or something." Bettina shrugged, leaning against the side of the bench and tossing her legs over his knees. "You know, we have the Cap'n an' all to officiate." Well, that was how she'd interpreted the rumors she'd heard. "Be fun, right? Might be a party...you'd take me, of course?" She scrunched her face up and crossed her eyes at him, trying not to giggle.

"I would be more then happy to take you." He narrowed his eyes as he stroked her legs below the knee "however the question you should be asking is this. Does Braden know how to give a decent foot massage or will he just tickle these lovely feet in his lap." He tilted his head "Are you curious as to my inclination, you being in such a position as this?"

Looking him in the eye, Bettina shrugged nonchalantly, he could try tickling her feet all he liked...yes, she was ticklish, but that wasn't the place! "A nice massage might be...nice." Wiggling her toes in her shoes, she shrugged. "Too bad I didn't wash my feet this year!"
