ON:

Braden was taking a break and decided to run the halls and see more of the ship. He needed to burn off some tension anyway. He wore denim shorts and a sweatshirt, baseball cap and running shoes with high socks. He had started out slow at a normal jog. He saw no one for a few decks and began running faster. Soon he was running heedless of the dangers involved. Then he rounded a corner and there she was on her hands and knees picking something up just around a corner. He dove over her and tumbled forward back to his feet taking two more steps before he righted his balance and turned back. She was wearing a full, multi-colored skirt, kind of a bo-ho look. He smiled as he knelt to help her collect what was dropped "I am sorry if I startled you. Down here close to the floor I failed to see you." He offered her a hand to help her stand then handed her the things he had collected for her. His blue eyes searched her brown eyes as if seeking to know her. He blinked "I am Braden MacCloud, the newly hired science guy." He offered his hand "I hope you will not think ill of me here? After all I did avoid trampling you?"

Bettina heard the footsteps just as they were getting to her, so she had no time to react, which was probably best...if she'd had the chance she would have started to get up and likely his gazelle-like leap would have resulted to a boot to the head, not a good outcome for either of them.

As it was, thankfully he avoided her, and even managed to land upright and unscathed.

"Thank you." Smiling, she took his hand and stood, accepting the baubles he handed her, her cheeks glowing red. There was nothing important, just some sequins that likely had fallen free of passenger clothing, but Bettina was kind of like a magpie...

"Um...oh, right, Bettina Davies." She took his hand and shook it firmly. "Medic...if you ever get hurt, I'll patch you up!"

"Hopefully I will not need your professional services for more then a vaccine." Braden smiled he was going to continue on his own way but stayed asking "would you mind me walking with you a while? I would like to meet my fellow crew after all. If you are busy I completely understand though." He shrugged "if you are free though is there a lounge? I have not found it yet and was curious."

"Oh, well...yeah, of course." She smiled, then hesitated a bit, turning a slow circle as she looked around. "There is a lounge...on...deck....seven." Nodding, she looked up at him, then broke into a big grin. "Or deck nine...you have found the most un-naviagtor navigator on the ship. I would not follow me anywhere. But, I'd be happy to accompany you anywhere...or nowhere, as it may be!"

"My thanks," Braden bowed at the waist slightly. "Since I should not follow you perhaps we could walk side by side and talk as we go.. This way. The ramp toward deck-7 should be in this direction. Do you need any help carrying your collections?" He offered politely in a slightly mild soft voice. His face brighten "Do you prefer Bettina or a nickname? I simply go by Braden myself, never was one to draw nicknames." He stepped out pacing himself beside her.

"Bettina is fine, Bett...whatever sounds good to you." Grinning, she fell in step with him, still thinking it wasn't that great an idea to even walk with her, although she supposed that eventually they would find something. Little bells tinkled at the hem of her skirt as she walked.

"Oh, um, I have..." she handed him her medical kit, then rearranged the other pack she was carrying. "Thanks. I just got some last-minute things for my cabin...I don't have a roommate yet, but I kinda wanted to get some decorating done."

Then she stopped and frowned. "Isn't the mess hall on Deck Three?" Maybe...

Braden nodded "mess hall is on deck-3 so your right on there. I am on deck-4 myself. Let me look here." He took a PADD from his pocket and looked at it. "I was going to check out deck-7 and check the action there. Maybe find someone who likes to dance? It has been a long time since I had a chance to dance with a lady and I am sort of looking forward to that."

"Oh, that...of course." Bettina nodded as if she now understood him. "Yes, Deck 7 is where the dancers are, I think I read that in the orientation." She grinned up at him.

He looked at his cloths and laughed "well I was going to shower and change first originally?" He made eye contact "say if you would care to dance with me? You could drop of your stuff and I could change? What do you think? Would you risk dancing with me?"

"I think the risk would be all yours." She felt a bit of a blush come to her cheeks. "I'm liable to trample your toes, but yes, I would do that."

A frown crossed her features then. "So, I need to drop off my things then go to Deck 7, right? Where the dancers are!"

Braden tilted his head "if you are afraid of losing me I could escort you to your quarters and wait for you to get ready? Then you could go to mine and wait in my living room. I was a marine I can shower and change in less then seven minutes. I would not mind if you do not."

"Seven minutes?" Raising an eyebrow, she looked up at him. "You have me curious now, and I guess the only way I can really find out is to time you." She nodded. "It's a deal!" This should be interesting!

Braden reached the turbolift "so which deck are you on? We can stop at your place first." Braden was actually having fun, there was something about her that made him feel comfortable. Maybe it was because she seemed so honest? Anyway he was smiling as he waited for her to enter the turbolift. "Drop your stuff off then I will wait for you to change if you wish. Then on to my place."

"Deck 5..I guess we're not really neighbors, then." Her smile brightened as she looked up at him, enjoying that he was willing to play along with her silliness. There was enough seriousness to be had in life, there just wasn't need to embrace that all the time.

The lift stopped and she stepped out. "This way!" Bells tinkling, she turned to the right, made it about ten paces, then did a sudden pirouette as she moved past him. "Really, this way!" She headed to the left, laughing. "I was just testing you!"

Braden laughed at her antics and bowed at the waist once more "I certainly hope I passed. Would be such a damper on the evening to fail so soon." He stopped to ask "do you wish to change? I can wait out here, I do not mind waiting." Braden was having a hard time understanding how impulsive he was behaving. He so rarely did so. With Bettina though it just seemed perfectly natural.
