ON:

Jeassaho yanked the fire suppressant device out of the locker, it weighed quite the ton more than any other damage control kit she had ever had before. She already had the ludicrous looking fire suit on, it made her feel rather like an antique space man it was that old, but she knew it was good kit having checked it herself. At some point she would have to talk to someone about her emergency duties; she thought her skills were better used elsewhere than lugging around heavy equipment and stamping out flames. That would have to wait though, now she had to be part of a team, listen to them and act both quickly and efficiently like she used to before she had gotten kidnapped by Rueben and Kelsa.

Braden felt the explosion and came awake in an instant. His marine training and being on rapid alert status for those years as a fighter pilot had him still trained to respond within an instant of coming awake. He jumped into his clothes and was out of his door in a matter of a minute. He heard the alert message, an explosion, and fire on deck-6. He made his way to the damage control locker and stepped into a damage control party environment suit then checked his air supply.

"Braden right?" Jessaho demanded quickly as he was putting on the suit. "You are the new Chief Scientist?" She checked looking at the list of safety numbers and who was allocated to what positions.

"Yes, that is me. Any idea the extent of the damage?" Braden checked the fire extinguisher and one handed flipped it to his shoulder. "I am guessing you are the damage control officer since you are here and asking who I am?" He took a step to clear the way for more people arriving "where do you want me."

"Well from the way the ship shook it has to be some type of explosion," Jeassaho said as Rueben came into the Damage Control locker and started to grab fire suit silently. This was his ship and he would be damned if he was going to let anyone damage him and him not take any steps to stop is spreading.

"Ah Rueben, what you doing?" Jessaho demanded as she looked away checking over Braden's equipment.

"Helping. You know as well as I do JJ that not all the damage control team spots are filled. You need me!" He said simply pulling the suit up and over his shoulder.

"Fine... you can be in inspection and assess only. You check are equipment and make sure we know how long we have in our canisters" Jeassaho took the broad with chalk and wrote his name. Rueben smirked... at least she was talking to him. "You and you..." She pointed to two Engineers knowing them personally. "are with me and MaCloud. We go in and sweep the cargo hold for people around the fire at the same time as we use the hose. No one be a hero and you keep hold of the hose or the person in front of you shoulder."

Braden was glad for the helmet as he watched the exchange, that was a bit unexpected. He wondered what was between the protective Damage control officer and the Captain? He had certainly not taken offense when she barked at him. It was not really important but it was interesting to see. He took a position beside Jeassaho on her left "ready when you are." Braden nodded at the captain "Good morning Sir."

The Captain held up his hands in greeting as he put the helmet on. "Follow." Jeassaho instructed returning to the corridor seeing just how smokey it has gotten in only a few moments that it had taken to put on the damage control suits. "Hold on to my shoulder and make sure the person behind you is still holding on as the smoke will get thicker."

Braden put his hand on her shoulder "why don't you just suck the smoke out?" This was a rather odd way to fight a fire on a starship? Just seal and vent the chamber then go in and put out the fires. Braden noticed the suits were already getting warmer and wondered if they were going to be truly effective once they began getting closer to the heat source. Braden felt the Engineer's hand on his shoulder behind him and kept track of the pace so he did not trip over anyone or allow anyone to trip him up.

"We can't seal off the converte cargo holds." Jeassaho said with a small amused laugh. He was thinking with his Starfleet brain, she had lost that months ago when she had come on board and realized just how few fail safes the ship had. "Last owner only had five crew... everything was run from the bridge," Jeassaho explained as they rounded to where the cargo bay entrance was open. She moved to where the extinguishing equipment was.

Braden was a little worried now, a fire ate air and if they could not even filter the air this ship was becoming a death trap and fast. It was important though so he asked "How do we filter the air before the ship is compromised then? This smoke is going to spread. Air was not unlimited on a space ship after all. Braden released his grip on her shoulder to grab a fire extinguisher. "I am on your left. he stayed close as he felt the heat and knew they were close to the source at least.

"I am Betazoid... I can sense you." She promised. "It won't get off this deck but the compartments are compromised on this side of the deck. Luckily the Deuterium tanks on the opposite side." She said through the comms as she slowly approached the fire. She didn't want to go into the reasoning for this locker or anything but it seemed very odd to her to say the least.

Armed with a fire extinguisher he moved slowly into the fray. The small team had to get this under control. he sprayed the flames as they licked the ceiling of the bay already. Braden moved in beside her as he began using the fire extinguisher in short burst. It was ungodly hot, this was more than a common fire? "Braden still here, is there a fire retardant system in this bay? We need more than a few of these things I fear."

"By the Deities..." Jeassaho hissed as she saw the fire hit the ceiling and glass shattered somewhere behind them from the heat. "There is an old system." She said not at all hopeful that it would work but it was worth a go.

"The old powder retardant system... smothering it?" One of the Engineers spoke up looking around.

"Yes... Braden i want you to lead the team back the way you've just come. I am going to get across to the lever. If I don't you need to use one of the water tanks and wipe out the cargo bay from behind the next lot of force fields you can get to." She said softly just so it was possible for him to hear.

He grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "No way. I have no idea what you have in mind, I do not know this ship and without you I have no way to figure this out before we get cooked." He thought back to his ship schematic studies and the fire retardent systems on this ship. He referenced it in his mind to the deck they were on and then he nodded. "I can find the lever and know how it should work. You stay with your team and lead, THAT is your job." He sprayed an opening ahead and left her there in a sudden rush of movement. He hopped and slid swiftly as he could hoping the suit would protect him enough. Movement was his only real choice, slowing or stopping meant death in this heat. he sprayed the worst areas to gain him a little space.

"You are too slow," Jeassaho commented on as she pushed him through the opening he was making returning the favor for him pulling her back. She knew the ship better than him and she was the one who was meant to make the life or death choices. "You don't know this deck, it shifts up and down for the floor below."

Braden shook his head, she was headstrong and stubborn. He could have found the lever it was still where it should be. "So who is back up since you are here?" Braden covered the path trying to keep the flames back enough for them to pass through without their suits melting away. It was too late now for a plan 'B' so he moved alongside her trying to keep them both alive long enough to save the ship. He could not be too upset though as he acted on impulse more then most himself.

"Chief Engineer or Rue." She said casually as they reached the other wall. "How long have you got left?" She asked looking at how much oxygen she had left.

"Guage says almost four hours. Hard to tell but the suit is not breached as yet and there is no real reason to doubt the guage." He did not say other then the equipment was old and should have been retired like forty years ago. So no telling how well the seals were going to hold up on the suit or the air tank. he had thought she was the chief Engineer seeing how she had been there before him, and he was trying to think who Rue would be when the nickname dawned on him. He pointed with his extinguisher nozzle "over there, that should be the lever you wanted."

"I checked the suits." Jeassaho said simply. "Good cause I didn't want you to have to hold your breath." She tugged on the lever and sighed as it didn't shift. It was designed to dumb powder on the whole deck. "Little help."

Braden smiled as he teased "glad you brought me along now are you?" He put his weight on the lever in an even steady push afraid it might break if he shoved it suddenly. With the woman beside him it was beginning to give then it shifted and opened. At first nothing seemed to happen then a spray shot out and a pipe heated by the fire busted and flew at the lady. Braden shifted swiftly and it hit him just below the shoulder! He felt the heat and stifled a groan as he felt the heat burn into his skin. He shrugged the piece of pipe off before it compromised his suit, jostling Kea in the process. He backed away "sorry clumsy me." The retardant from the broken section was a flood rather then a misty spray. The other sprayer nozzles seemed to be working though.

Jeassaho just shrugged it away as she couldn't see any better with the powder than she could with the smoke thanks to the white mist that covered her helmet now. She stayed against the wall until she couldn't hear anymore hissing from above. "Think it is empty?" She wondered softly asking his opinion on the powder having stopped or not.

Without getting an answer she heard a voice coming from the dimness of the bay. "Kea... MacCloud?" The voice of the Captain boomed and a flashlight pierced through shining on them.

"Overhere Captain," Jeassaho called as the powder finally settled enough for them to be made out. Rueben ripped his helmet off as he rushed for the pair.

"What were you two thinking?" The Captain demanded quietly before he said something in a lower tone to Jeassaho that was in a harsh sounding language.

Braden decided that since the danger was over and the lovers were consoling each other in a sort of angry panick way he would just go see the doctor. He left the fire extinguisher with one of the advancing engineers. "You need to recharge this mate." Braden walked toward the exit but he was aware of the room and from the burnt marks he could see where the fire started. Which was in the middle of some crates and large luggage bags. It had started among the wedding gifts? He would talk to the Captain later. They would figure that out as well once they started the clean up and inspection.

"Braden... I asked both of you." The Captain called as he removed his helmet revealing himself as red in the face and sweathing much like the rest of the people in suits. "Are you okay as well?"

Braden stopped and turned "I got a scratch but on my way to medical no worries." He made eye contact with the Captain but pointed at the woman next to him "She said the fire retardant controls were there. She said there was no way to filter the smoke from the air in this area of this ship? I figured the faster we put the fire out the easier it would be too keep breathing. Besides she needed help to use the control." Braden spoke as if it was an everyday just helping out another member of the crew sort of thing. He added a bit more respectful tone as he asked "Anything else Capt.. Gregnol?"

Rueben put a hand out to stop Jeassaho from commenting what he had said, he could feel her uncoiling like a cobra next to him hearing his words as a called her. He was starting to see that the man went into defensive mode often but it wasn't him deflecting the blame just stating the fact. "You might want to check in with Jeassaho after you have finished in medical." He advised quickly as he saw the man's arm. "I will need your help investigating it." He said firmly.

Braden was startled by the woman's anger? What had he said wrong. He had made an accurate report. He shrugged "certainly Sir I will return to duty as soon as medical releases me." He looked at Jeassaho with a mildly curious expression "I will locate you first Ma'am as the Captain wants me to report to you. I should not be long." He looked back to the Captain "by your leave Sir." Braden stepped away with a turning step and headed for the cargo bay exit. Without the smoke or fire it did not seem such a long distance. He mused over in his mind just what the lady's problem was. If he had not gone with her she would have been cooked.
