1328 words - 2.7 OF Standard Post Measure

Reuben looked around the large space that had been built out of the remains of the cargo bay. The cargo bay itself hadn’t been needed, when the ship was pretty much one big cargo bay. The crew, however, needed space to unwind as most of them weren’t allowed in the wardroom. It would increase morale and by that, it would also increase productivity, to say the least. In fact, just the mere mention had cheered up some people. He had set the party up pretty much by himself trying to prove a point that he wanted something like this.

He turned as the door swished open as people started to turn up for the crew party.

Amelia sauntered into the room in a black, figure-hugging dress. Her dark brown hair slightly curled as her glowing blue eyes peered over the table. She was rarely seen out of her pilot’s uniform, so this was unusual to her. Looking to her captain, she nodded.

They were at odds, obviously. She didn’t know the status of her and Jeassaho’s relationship if that was what they were calling it. “Captain.” She greeted as she leaned against the table “Nice setup...” she spoke softly as she poured herself a glass of scotch. She had done nothing wrong. She was staying in the VIP quarters for one night. And, she’d been invited! What did it matter? And why was the captain so cold to her lately?

Pushing her way in close to the table, Draia Theroh chimed in, "She's right," hooking a thumb in Amelia's direction. "This ship was like a tugboat before this masterpiece," Draia affirmed. In her Cardassian-accented voice, Draia could make a compliment sound condescending without meaning it, and she sounded even worse when she was passing judgment. Even when it was a joke (mostly). As if she were quoting a wise proverb, Draia said, "A starship isn't a starship until it has its own bar."

"Well, she has had more crew onboard than she has had in years," Reuben said thoughtfully thinking of all the automotive systems that The Collector had put on the ship to lower the chances of crew stealing what he had collected. He smiled a little looking at Draia remembering she hadn't actually seen the Grotto yet. He would have to change that as she would be interested in the items there let along all the engineering toys.

Amelia chuckled “Point made, Draia.” She smirked pleasantly as she sipped the caramel liquid “The ship is just a structure once she’s born. Capable of moving through space, yes. But her personality shines when she had crew. But just any crew, they have to be the right fit for her. A badly run ship will sail the course and ultimately end without reaching the destination properly. A well-fitted ship glides through space like she’s meant to.

"Regardless of the past events, Captain, I have we have some exceptional crew members here. And adding the bar, heh, well that’ll make us that much better. A party is a good boost for morale.” She smirked as she put down her glass.

Quang walked into the party area. This was unique. Usually, he was the guy manning the bar. He still might spell the person behind it though. He couldn't drive the professionalism out of himself. He walked over to the captain.

he wore his usual off duty garb. Tan slacks, ordinary shoes, Hawaiian style shirt, and shades. Out of respect for the captain, he opted to have left the nic sticks in his cabin. He knew it would come back to bite him.

"Nice effort," he complimented Reuben. "I appreciate the thought. It's a good look for this area. How did you pull it off?"

"With Engineerings support." He said dipping his glass to Draia as more people started to arrive.

Braden was here because he had to be. It was not orders but responsibility. He had stayed on the ship to avoid being sent off onto whatever ship was next to leave an out of the way starbase. Rueben had helped save his life and allowed him to remain aboard so he owed the Captain. He wore a navy blue suit and stopped at the door. "Good evening Rueben You seem to have put a lot of effort into this affair I hope it is a success."

Reuben nodded to the man as he finally started to call him his name instead of a title. "Me too!" He assured. It was to celebrate the new bar and to introduce a few new people and get them known on the ship.

Pushing past Reuben, Draia Theroh was double-fisting a couple of drinks in a manner that wasn't half as elegant as the emerald gown she was wearing. Like many among the crew, this was probably the first time any of them had seen their Engineering Chief in anything other than a dirty jumpsuit. "Braden, there you are," she declared as she closed in on him. "Now, be honest with me. How pleased are you with your new garden?"

"I can honestly say the garden is the best that could be had in the space allotted." Braden smiled bowing his head acknowledging her support and help in the project. "I can say we are producing well above the needs of the present crew so are actually building a surplus. The air quality is much better as well, at least the numbers say so. The team did well." Braden looked her over and tilted his head "I would say you look as fetching as the garden in that dress. I am sure Mr. Cullars ' eye will pop when he sees you."

The Captain agreed the air quality had been his main concern with Dixoho but he was relieved when they had, had a catch up that she was feeling better than she had in a long time. "Well my navigator says she is feeling much better with the air quality," Reuben assured as he raised an eyebrow at the woman as she pushed through to them. "Da, i agree. I didn't realise you were so pretty under the grime." He teased her in a private joke over prettiness.

"Ah, now that's why you hired me after all," Draia rebuked in good humour, gently elbowing Reuben in the stomach. "It's lonely at the top being the only pretty one. ...Mind you, Mister MacCloud is offering up stiff competition with those shoulders," she said. She drained one of her glasses and set it aside. Looking from one man to the other, Draia asked, "Are you serving up any of the fruits of our garden-labour on a platter at this party?"

"That question could be better answered by Quang Tran? I have little to do with distribution. Other then the baskets we set out at the garden for people to get on their own the bulk of our produce goes to operations and ship stores." Braden looked to Quant Tran "The lady here was asking if our produce was being served here?"

"Certainly is," answered Quang. "The captain had asked me to set aside some of it but didn't tell me why. Not a bad use of it."

The Captain just shrugged, he had meant to tell the man but it had obviously slipped his mind. "Well, all in all, i think things are turning around." He said with a bright smile as he realised just how true that statement was, the ship and crew after a year was slowly coming together from what Barton had tried to glue together badly.
