This was turning into a long day for Talon. He awoke with a hangover and the beautiful Tabitha in his bed. Hopefully, she'd be there when all of his business was handled. He had a lengthy meeting with Reuben, where he found he was completely in charge of Medical. So far, the morning had been great.
Then, the lengthy chat with Dixoho in the mess, which brought his day to a screeching halt. He couldn't figure why she didn't care for Tabitha. The only thing he could logically assume was that both were feisty, fiery individuals. They would always clash.
Dixoho mentioned something about a package. This confused Joss; he hadn't ordered anything. Nobody knew he was on this ship. What could have possibly come for him? To find out, he headed to find Reesem Nubohn, Reuben's secretary.
He found her outside of the area Reuben had made into his office. It was the first Talon had actually seen Reesem. Damn! Another beautiful woman. This really wasn't fair to the men aboard.
"Hello Miss Nubohn," Talon greeted. "I understand from Dixie that a package has arrived for me?"
Reessem looked up from her old fashioned note book and looked him over. She finally distinguished his words and nodded. She wore a pair of trousers over a baggy tee shirt. "Qui." She agreed turning to look around for it.
"I'm sorry? Qui?" Talon inquired, at a loss.
"Yes... Sorry." Reessem had to remember that she wasn't on earth anymore not everyone knew what she was talking all the time.
"Oh," Talon laughed at himself. "I wasn't sure if my mind was slipping there. Did I see you at the crew party?" He couldn't remember if she had been there or not. There were so many new people he had met that night.
The brunette nodded, she had been there for a little bit before she had disappeared off to other pastures. "For the most part." She bent over picking up a large package.
Being polite, Joss turned s she bent over. Sometimes it was difficult to be a gentleman. He was successful most of the time. When he was unsuccessful, he usually had something on his mind.
"Wow! I have a large package," he declared before he realized his choice of words. Blood rushing to his cheeks in humility, he asked, "Any idea what it is? I wasn't expecting anything."
"Afraid not it must be safe passed Starfleet scans." She murmured smiling as she passed it over ignoring his choice of words. She wasn't interested in him in the slightest.
His face still reddening, Joss took the package and looked it over. He pinched the ridges of his nose. "I'm sorry, Miss Nubohn, for my choice of words. I wasn't expecting a package. I'm suspicious and nervous. When I'm nervous, I speak without thinking. But if you say it's safe, I'll trust your judgment.
"Resseesm is fine." She assured softly. "I trust Starfleet procedures."
Talon cocked his head to the side. Someone here, in this place, a rogue ship, trusted StarFleet. That was incomprehensible to Joss. Sure, some were bound to be ex-StarFleet, but wouldn't they have a distrust, having to work against StarFleet. He'd have to find out more about this one. Her trust caused him not to trust her.
"You trust StarFleet?" Talon probed.
"I trust there over compensated procedures." She assured. She was an administrator, she valued procedures and the mundane things.
No matter how tight the security, Talon knew for certain that things got through. No one knew where he was. How did they know to deliver it directly to the Rosie? Unless it came from someone inside the Rosie. He decided to take it back to his office and set it in a corner. If anyone mentioned it, besides Dixie, who knew it arrived for him, he'd have a good idea who had sent it. Only then would he open it up. Maybe he'd seek advice from the boss on this one.
"Do I need to sign anything?" he asked her.
"Non." She said distracted for a moment slipping into French. "Do you know who sent it?"
"Afraid not," Talon admitted. "I wasn't expecting it. I don't have anyone to send me anything." The woman smiled fondly but nodded letting him go if he wanted.
"Thank you Miss Nubohn," Talon genuinely offered. He carried the package to his office in sick bay. He decide he would take the risk and open it up. To his surprise, inside was an actual ancient style book. It was a medical textbook: Comparative Alien Physiology. The author was Doctor Leonard McCoy.
He lifted the book out of the package. Opening the cover he noticed something written. Please accept this gift from my heart. Talon smiled at the inscription, think he knew who it was from. He'd have to thank Tabs later.
