897 words - 1.8 OF Standard Post Measure

Micheal lay, snoring softly, as he swayed slowly in the hammock that he had strung up inside his shuttle. After sleeping in it for a few years now, it was difficult for him to sleep in a regular bed. Suddenly, Rebecca flashed into life. "Micheal," she softly spoke. "Wake up, Micheal. The Captain is approaching."

Before Micheal's brain cpuld recognize the words that the A.I. had uttered, the pounding on the exterior hatch startled him out of his slumber.

"Who is it?!" He bellowed, his voice starting to fill with anger.

"The only person who would be searching the ship for you when you are not in your assigned quarters." The Captain demanded, banging on the bulkhead of the ship, annoyed that he was wasting time. He should have just put a ship-wide announcement out for the man.

Rolling out of the hammock, Micheal closed his pants and grabbed a tank top as he opened the hatch. As the hatch opened, he pulled the tank top on, the various scars he had earned in his career in Starfleet clearly visible. "C'mon in, Cap."

The Captain pulled the hatch opened, annoyed. "You need to sleep in your quarter, it is a pain to find you." The man said sharply. "It needs to be a new rule. Your quarters aren't so bad. Nice, clean, proper bed. Between Doctor and Navigator. Quiet unless Saa has suddenly decided to start partying more than just brooding." He couldn't understand the reluctance.

Micheal reached for his gunbelt and clipped it on, figuring that the Captain didn't just stop by on a social call. "Sorry, Cap. I tried, honest. It just felt... wrong. I've been sleeping in here for the past two years, having Rebecca to talk to, if I needed to. That room you assigned me to, feels...well...it feels like a tomb. Besides, with my transporter, I can get anywhere in needed on the ship, if an emergency happens." He paused when Dixoho was mentioned. "Also, I think Dixoho would not be very comfortable if she knew I was in the cabin next door." He moved to his small replicator and ordered a raktajino. Looking back at Reuben, he asked, "Want one?"

"I don't care how you do it. You need to be in quarters, i don't even care if it isn't your own, but not in here." Reuben said softly, ignoring the offer of raktajino. He was a patient man, but, he just couldn't at the moment. It was too early for him when he had a hangover. "Wait...why wouldn't Saa be comfortable with you next door?" That piped his interest just enough to make him pause in his thoughts. He had always wondered about the pair.

Sighing sightly,Micheal withdrew the offered coffee and returned it to the replicator. Once he released it, the computer reclaimed the item and stored the biomatter for the next time. Looking back at Reuben, he responded. "Well, after I informed her of who I was and that there was a bounty on her head, even though I also told her that not only would I not be collecting on it, but I could actually help her get free of it, she has been avoiding me as best as possible. Out of respect for her, I have stayed away as best I could as well."

Reuben squeezed the bridge of his nose. "I didn't know there was a bounty on her head." He sighed. It wasn't the time or place to discuss that, it was a discussion for after this matter. "We will discuss this after. We have a Code X-ray situation. We need to search the ship. Those voices might be people onboard."

Hearing the code, Micheal realized that this was serious. Nodding to Reuben as the sleep finally vanished from his features, he replied. "Yeah, I've heard them too. But I used the internal scanners and checked. The lifesigns that should be here are all Rosie picks up. Of course, there were several areas that the sensors either couldn't penetrate, or they simply don't work there."

“The computer has picked up more biosigns than Crew.” The Captain said simply, turning around. Code X-ray was literally a fingertip search of the whole Ship done by every crew member.

Micheal grabbed his jacket and pulled it on as he followed the Captain out into the shuttlebay. "Rebecca, lock up. Contact the Rosie, see if you two can work together on the search." The A.I. responded by simply closing the hatch and locking it. Falling into step with Reuben, Micheal asked, "So what's the gameplan, Boss?"

“Summoning the troops quietly is the first part of the plan.” It would be easy at this time in the morning as no one was on duty apart from Gamma shift and that was twenty people maximum. Everyone else should be in bed somewhere.

Micheal nodded. "Ya know, Boss, having individual communication devices would make things like this easier? If you want, I'm sure Rebecca could replicate some badges or wrist units, whatever you think would work best?"

"Don't you start." Reuben hissed. He was really fed up with people suggesting it to him when it was out of his control.
