Johnathen finally finished up in the shower and, after drying off, donned a soft terry cloth robe, then left the bathroom. Heading back into the bedroom, he saw that Cassie had made the bed while he had soaked his sore body. "Cas?" He called out softly as he made his way into the living room of the large VIP quarters that they were using. The smell of food bringing a smile to his face.
Cassie was still only dressed in the same shirt that she had been wearing before, but she sat on the floor meditating and barely heard him come into the room. She needed to think, needed to process what everything meant now, and the easiest way for her to do so was through her own mind scape, something that allowed her to think without distractions.
Knowing the beautiful Vulcan hybrid as he well as he did, Johnathen became very quiet when he saw her meditating. While he didn't need to be completely silent, he knew that she needed to focus. She had told him, years ago, that when they were together, and she needed to meditate, he could go about his business. In fact, it was better that he did, as his forced silence could give iff energies that could distract her. Thus, it was better that he just moved about quietly.
So, the young helmsman turned and went towards the dining area of the spacious quarters. He sat down at the table, marvelling at the spread that Cassie had put together while he was in the shower. There was one thing that he would always remember, Cassie McAvoy never ceased to surprise him.
The woman suddenly came out of her meditation and turned to see him in the robe still. A wolfie grin appeared on her face as she stood. “You've not eaten?” She wondered looking at the table and the food that had been sent at her request.
"I wanted to wait for you, my love." He stood and moved to pull out the chair that was next to his, indicating that she should sit.
The woman shook her head but sat down. "You didn't know how long I would be." The food was still warm but his thoughts just weren't logical.
After sliding her chair in slightly, Johnathen bent down and lightly kissed the nape of his mate's neck. He then moved to sit in his own chair, facing her. "My love, have you not figured out yet, I will not eat without you? At least, not when we're together like this. If we are on differing work shifts, then that's different." He picked up her plate and indicated the food that she had acquired for them. "What would you like?"
Cassie closed her eyes at the soft kiss on her neck. Did this man know that she was still testing the barriers of her control? "Everything. I am starving," She said with a small grin at him and his determination to try and be almost Vulcan in his manners. Didn't he realise that she did like him just the way he was?
Johnathen continued to smile as he filled Cassie's plate. After placing it back down in front of her, he picked up his and filled it as well. Once both of their plates were filled, he looked back at his mate and asked, "What would you like to drink?"
"Water will be fine." The woman took the mug that was near them and poured her own before pouring him one. "Drink it... you need it." She said softly as she realised how deep the hate she had for herself at the moment went for putting him through that.
Johnathen smiled as Cassie poured some water for him. He was, actually, quite thirsty suddenly. As his eyes moved from his mug, up to her, he could tell that she was troubled about something. Reaching out and gently taking hold of her left hand, he shifted closer to her and asked, his eyes full of concern, "Honey, what's the matter?"
"Nothing." She said, shaking the feeling away, quickly forgetting about the bond. She had spent so many years with her bond with Tevir strained that she forgot what it was like to have a bond with someone so close. "Just I don't have full control just yet."
Johnathen gave her a soft, quizzical look. "Control of what?" He took a drink of his water and then ate a few bites of the delicious food on his plate.
"Myself." She grinned softly. She was clear-headed, but she could feel something brewing just below the surface, wanting release. Maybe it was the anger she was feeling at the universe or the guilt over Tevir, the mess she had made of her marriage.
Johnathen continued to look at Cassie, concern in his eyes. A little confusion was mixed in as well. "Control of yourself? What do you mean?"
“Just a little after effect on Pon Farr. I am still within the danger zone, hormonally, since my levels have not yet regulated themselves.” She wasn’t going to go into the fact it was her own fault for holding out for so long.
Johnathan nodded thoughtfully. He then looked into Cassie's beautiful eyes and asked, "Is there anything I can do to help?"
"Nope. Your presence is enough." She assured him, a blush still on her cheek as she started to tuck into the food. Her mind wondered how she was going to face people who had seen her when she had not been herself. It was embarrassing, but she knew they would understand as it wasn't so much a big thing as it had been 150 years ago.
Johnathen smiled anew at his mate. He then followed her example and began to eat. As he did so, his body suddenly seemed ravenous for the sustenance. It took strong will power to continue to eat in a civilized manner.
Later, after they were both content with full bellies, Johnathen started to clean the mess away. "What do you feel like doing today? We still have another three days to ourselves in here, after all."
"We do?" She wondered finally looking up. She had thought they would have to return to duties.
The young pilot nodded. "Yeah, the Captain said we didn't need to report for duty until Monday. Soooo...." he smiled and shrugged.
That smile warmed places inside Cassie that, thanks to her Vulcan upbringing, she did not know existed. The affection of it, the satisfied pleasure at the turn of events, the genuine comfort at his intimate presence; it both tempered and encourage her eagerness all at once. "That was kind of him."
Johnathen nodded. "Yeah, that, plus a few other things, has cemented my loyalty to the man. Wherever life takes him, I'll gladly serve his bidding."
Cassie raised an eyebrow but didn't say a word at all about her mate's new opinion on the Captain. It certainly hadn't been that way before this turn of events. "What would you like to do with this time?" She wondered softly. He was the one hurt, thanks to her.
As everything was finally cleared away, Johnathen sat back down in his seat, facing Cassie, and took her hands into his. "What I want most," he began, "is to be with you. We lost so much time in that transporter. You are all I have left of our former lives. I want to learn everything about you. Even the things that you've kept from me."
The woman bowed her head as she realised he wanted to know about the two years when she hadn't been with him. "I am sorry that I have kept things." She admitted softly as she pulled her hands from his slowly to wrap around herself. "What would you like to know?" Cassie couldn't show him mentally so she would have to speak the words.
Johnathen's heart began to break for his beautiful mate. Standing up and moving over to her, he gently took hold of her upper arms and guided her to stand up with him. Then, taking her hands in his, he positioned her left hand over his heart, and her right hand up to the left side of his face, near where she could easily meld with his mind, if she chose to. "You misunderstand, beloved. I am not upset that you have kept things from me. Nor am I demanding you tell me. Feel how strong my heart beats...it beats for only you. Read my thoughts, they, like my soul, are completely open to you. All I ask is that someday, you will be as open with me." He looked deep into her eyes, his rate of breathing slightly elevated. "I love you. I always have. I always will. There is nothing you can say or do to change that." He ended his speech by leaning in and kissing her, deeply and passionately.
Cassie pulled her hand back from the Psy points on his face and just kissed his cheek. "We shall speak. We shall spend the next few days talking, and if you don't like what you hear, we can dissolve our bond and I will leave." She told him, hoping he knew she didn't think that would happen. She was vaguely remembering the words he had spoken to her at the bonding but it just made her guilty if she was honest at how foolish she had been over everything.
Johnathen gave Cassie a pained look. "Cas....do you not want us to be together? You keep talking about how me not wanting to be with you." He turned and took a few steps away from the beautiful woman, shaking his head as he tried to check his rising feeling of hurt. Finally turning back to face Cassie, his eyes were already full of tears. Have you already forgotten my vow to you at our bonding ceremony?" He continued to speak, not allowing her to reply. Dropping to his knees, tears now freely flowing, he continued. "I'll remind you...You are my life, my heart, my everlasting love. Without you, I am hollow. Bond with me, and I will spend the rest of my days ensuring that you are cared for, loved, and protected." He took in a ragged breath as he added, "I meant every word of it, and, I thought you knew me well enough to know that, above all else, I am a man of my word!" His heart continued to break, not knowing why she seemed so unsure of them.
"I don't really remember much of that time." She admitted with a small frown, more at herself, than him. She could barely remember anything since the day they had taken the tour of the temples and thoughts of finding a time hole had crossed her mind. "I want us to be together... of course... I just don't want you tied to someone who has children older than herself... hell I have grandchild older than me."
Standing back up and moving close to Cassie again, Johnathen gently took hold of her head with both of his hands. "Sweetheart, you could have an entire planet of offspring that are older than you. It doesn't change how I feel about you one iota. Is our situation unique? Absolutely. However, should you choose to get to know your extended family, I will be here, right by your side. And if you don't, I'll still be here. You are my life. Where you go, I go. What hurts you, hurts me. What successes you have, I'll celebrate as if they were my own." He paused to let his words sink in, and then he concluded with, "Don't ever think that I don't want to be with you, or that I'll leave you. Because I won't. Ever. Do you understand me?" He pleaded with her as he finished.
"I understand Nath..." The woman took a deep breath and nodded, he made a very logical and compelling argument around it all. "You argued like a Vulcan." She said with a small smirk at him as she kissed his cheek. "I don't really understand how I have a child." It was possible that he had found her experiments from work where she had been trying to find how she was created after she had gone missing in action.
Johnathen grinned at the compliment. "Thank you. Glad to see I can still surprise you, my love." Taking her by the hand, he led Cassie over to the large, overstuffed, sofa that was in the living room. After sitting, he gently pulled her down to straddle his lap. Looking up into her mesmerizing eyes, he continued. "At this point, I think it would be better, to just accept your offspring. Clearly, Tevir had a hand in it, possibly wanting to keep a part of you alive, after we were lost and presumed dead."
Cassie nodded, thinking that he was echoing her thought, but then remembered that they were now bonded. He probably, at the moment, didn't know what was his or what was hers. "I have to accept a lot of things at the moment, but, the best thing I accept, is you as my husband if you'll have me." She whispered looking down into his eyes.
Johnathen's eyes looked a little confused at first. But then, he realized what had just happened, and they went wide with excitement. "Are you asking me to marry you, in the human fashion? If so, then my answer is most definitely, YES!!"
"You suggested it." She said softly nodding at him. It only seemed fair seeing he done things her way by her heritage that she should do something his way. "Only seems correct, seeing that you have done everything my way so far." She loved how excited he looked at the prospect.
Johnathen was overjoyed. He pulled Cassie down to him, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her again. In moments, the couple had stood up and moved back to the bedroom, to celebrate the birth of the next chapter of their lives.
