Grotto disturbance Part 1

Posted on Sun Aug 5th, 2018 @ 8:38am by Captain Rueben Gregnol & Executive Officer Valiyi Uhin

Mission: Mission 7 - Sabotage
Location: SS Mary Rose, Armory
Timeline: MD -2 / 0204 hours
1014 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

Micheal was trying to sleep, but couldn't find a comfortable position. While the ship's medical staff had done a great job of fixing him up, it was still a civilian ship, thus, the sickbay wasn't stocked with top of the line equipment.

Right now, his busted ribs were bothering him. They had been set, however, unlike a limb that could be immobilized, he had to simply accept the pain and discomfort of the bones healing.

Finally, after several frustrating hours of no sleep, he decided to go for a walk. Perhaps he could tire himself out enough that he could simply pass out and sleep for a few hours at least. So, he got up, slowly, got dressed, and left his quarters.

Ambika was carrying Mátéma asleep in her arms. She had woken up again crying looking for her mother. She had done her best to dry the tears and put her back to sleep, but it took a visit to the messhall and some warm milk with honey to seal the deal. As she struggled with the dead weight in her arms she found herself facing someone she had both hunted and oddly enough help rescued. "Good morning, Mr Robertson," she said trying to walk past him.

Micheal seemed surprised to run into the Azzian woman. His eyes softened when he saw the sleeping child, his heart breaking a little, thinking of his own children and how he would never get to hold them again. "I see I wasn't the only one who couldn't sleep."

Ambika flashed a ghost of a smile, "New home, new clothes,, It's all a bit much for her," She exhaled softly, not wanting to wake the sleeping form in her arms, "She's still wrapping her head around all this. How are you feeling?"

Micheal slowly nodded his head and shrugged his shoulders. "She'll find her place. Kids can be very resilient. As for me, I'm healing. Slowly, but healing."

"It's early," Reuben said as he came out one of the VIP suites and looked up as he saw the three in the corridor. The man was just about to comment more but stopped as an alarm sounded from his PaDD in his pocket.

Micheal looked over at Reuben, surprised to see the man leaving the visitor's quarters. Before he could say anything, though, his PADD sounded an alarm as well. After pulling the device out of his cargo pocket, he quickly read what the alert was for. Looking back up at Reuben, he stated with surprise, "The Grotto!"

And at that moment, out popped Valiyi Uhin from another of the VIP suites, PaDD in hand and frown on her features, clad in nothing more than a flowing, violet nightgown with matching slippers. She took a step from the door before looking upward, lips pursing outward. "I assume everyone else is out on a nightly stroll of convenience that happened to align us perfectly to a potential investigation?"

Rueben raised an eyebrow at the woman but said nothing as he had come out of a VIP suite himself. "Yes... get dressed." He said simply as he indicated that they moved a little bit down the corridor away from the quarters before he realised the child in Ambika's arms. "Um..." He wondered thinking he could leave the child with the woman he had left to work out what all the talking was about.

Micheal picked up on the Captain's hesitance. "Perhaps you should get the girl safely to bed?" He suggested to Ambika.

"Just give me a minute," Ambika replied, seeing that she was to be included in whatever the emergency was. Returning to her cabin she carefully left Maddy down on the bed. Placing a hand on her forehead she kissed it softly, "Sleep well little one," She whispered before grabbing her nightstick and returning to the corridor. "What needs to be done?" she asked.

Micheal first looked at Reuben. "With your permission, Sir?" He then looked back at Ambika. "As you have experience in law enforcement procedures, I'm hereby deputizing you. While you are on this ship, you will work with me and the rest of my department in keeping this ship and her crew safe. Will you have any issues following the orders of a man?"

"As long as he doesn't order me to do anything stupid," Ambika shot back, gritting her teeth she sucked in some air, "Sorry Mr. Robertson, my brain gets ahead of my mouth sometimes. It will take some getting use to sir, but no I have no problems with a male boss." While she couldn't quite use the word 'Superior', she knew she could make the adjustment

"He won't but I might," Reuben commented on as he moved further down the corridor to the turbolift. Once everyone had followed he instructed the lift to the right deck. As soon as they left the turbolift it was easy to see something was wrong the deck was pitch black.

Valiyi's eyes narrowed into the darkness. With little to discern from the depths, she looked to the others. "Another hit from our saboteur, you think?"

Reuben couldn't help but agree with her. This was starting to get beyond a joke that one they had someone doing it on the ship but also that the person seemed to be one step ahead of them at every turn. How could they be so outsmarted by whoever the person was? The group arrived at where the Grotto had been hidden for ten years before a faulty circuit had made them discover the area behind it. It had been one of the ongoing jobs of Science to catalogue and for Engineering to check every nook and cranny to check there wasn't any more hidden compartments.
