Jasper stood eyeing the selections offered by the ship's chef. As much as the man admired the replicators there was still something about real food. It was the way he thought about it. Replicated food was made from, well, not your first choice of ingredients. It was still amazing though but if there was another offer he was going to consider it. Taking a plate with a nice ribeye and a baked potato he grinned widely as he sat it on his tray. It joined a small plate of broccoli, tomato juice, and a crisp red apple.
He drew in a deep breath and made his way towards the seating area, "now where to sit."
Jeassaho was sat not too far away with her boiler suit arms wrapped around her waist and just a vest top on. It was unusual to see Engineers looking like that but with the current state of the ship, it was to be expected.
"Hmm," the ops man said coming up with an idea, "looks to me like there's a seat available." Jasper chuckled to himself as he walked towards the brunette and offered a broad smile, "Hello Jeassaho is it? Mind if I join you?"
The Engineer had just shoved a mouthful of pasta into her mouth as the man stood there looking all awkward so she indicated with her head that the seat was there. "Sure." She said swallowing her food, it wasn't every day that people wanted to come and sit with her.
The man placed his plate on the table across from her and then slid in behind it. He gave her a broad smile and then nodded towards her, "thanks, I'd rather not eat alone if I can help it." He grinned broadly as he gazed on the woman, "I seem to eat more when I do."
"Well, I am glad I could help with keeping your waistline in check." She laughed softly taking a quick sip of her water to stop herself from choking on the food she had quickly swallowed to allow herself to talk. She had seen him around the ship but he was one of the 2246 Crew that she hadn't had much to do with as of yet.
Jasper chuckled as he gazed at the woman, "I'm Jasper, seen you around here but just haven't taken the time to introduce myself yet."
Jeassaho nodded. "Well Jasper who hasn't introduced himself I am Jeassaho but it is okay because strangely enough, I knew who you were. Everyone knows who you are I am afraid, ship celebrity." She teased him just a little.
"Really?" Jasper tilted his head furrowing his brow, "had no idea." He chuckled as his eyes sparkled, "though I hear you make quite a stir with that jumpsuit of yours.
"Oh?" Jeassaho wondered raising an eyebrow at his comment about her jumpsuit. She personally only ever wore it like that outside of Engineering purely because it was just to hot from being there for how long as she was.
Jasper chuckled and tilted his head slightly, "Not every woman can pull one of those off." His eyes widened as he realized what he had just said, "oh, sorry, I didn't mean it like that." The man's face turned a few shades of red before settling on one more appropriate for a not sauce bottle.
"No, you did." Jeassaho teased him just a little not missing his gaze or the way he turned bright red at the words he had realized he had said. The man was cute in a boy next door kinda way that made Jeassaho want to let him down very very gently especially when he was still just learning about this time.
"Oh!" The man was apologetic in his tone though he did mean the flirtatious comment itself, just not how it could have been interpreted. Jasper shook his head and looked away, "that came out different then I intended." He chuckled nervously trying to play it off a bit, "I was trying to say you looked good in one, not that..." He sighed, "never mind I blew it, I'm sorry."
The woman still smiled at him. "You didn't have a chance anyone Jasper. I am with someone." The Engineer admitted with a small glance around.
Jasper chuckled as his complexion changed to normal, "my luck. You'de think that after a hundred and fifty years I'd figure these things out."
Jeassaho shook her head. "You are still under 30, by my society you would be a child, a mere baby still those hundred and fifty years don't define you." She reminded him softly as she finished the majority of her meal and sipped on her water again looking him over.
"No." Jasper drew in a deep breath, "I don't remember anything from that time in the transporter so it's as if they never happened." He chuckled and began cutting some of his food into bite-sized portions, "I'd still be a child? Hah?" The new species to the federation still confused him some. Even the ones who were now more friendly didn't make much sense even knowing there was a good deal of time for peace to be made and exploration to take place.
"Betazoid's can live for well over a 100 years. We can still have babies in our 80's so why wouldn't a woman be a child in her 30's." The woman said lightening the mood. It would take more time than he had, had so far to get over the fact one second he was in 2246 and the next 2395.
"Batazoids?" Jasper tilted his head questioningly, "do I have some catching up to do on my species list?" He shook his head and chuckled. "Azzians, Trills, Batazoids and a Romulan doctor on our ship, the surprises just keep coming."
"Beta...Not Bata..." Jeassaho said sounding out the words properly. "Would this be a bad time to mention I can read your mind if I wanted to?" She asked wanting the realization spread across his face as she made him realised that she really wasn't an alien. Most people noticed the eyes at the very least but this man didn't even know her species existed.
"Betazoid," Jasper said repeating the word as a realization hit him, "oh, so the eyes, there no..." He shook his head closing his for a moment and taking in a deep breath, "never mind, I'm sorry." "I shouldn't have asked."
"There not...?" She wondered leaning forward a little more blinking at him.
Gathering some courage Jasper began to ask his question, "I thought they might have been bionic, you know replacements." He chuckled, "like I said I shouldn't have asked."
Jeassaho for a split second looked confused before she laughed and laughed until she was holding her side. "You are hilarious." She breathed trying to stop herself laughing. "Trust me nothing bionic about me." She assured.
Jasper laughed and shook his head, "See, I'm all messed up." He drew in a deep breath, "I sort of thought you were human, really."
"Definitely not human." The woman assured moving to stand up seeing the time. "You are definitely one of a kind Jasper. I am most certainly going to be telling ladies about you." She teased him grabbing up her trap. Normally she would have put her boiler suit on but the way he looked at her still was too much to pass up.
Jasper blusled and rolled his eyes, "thanks, that will ensure I don't get any dates." He shook his head, "but thanks for not getting angry with me."
