Ten minutes before the ceremony was the most nerve-racking part of the day so far. The time leading up to the walk down the aisle was starting to be the most anxiety-ridden 10 minutes Cassie had ever have had and she was already bonded to the man. She wondered if he could feel her anxiety through there bond or if he like her was nervous. And it made sense—she was about to make a life-changing decision in front of all the people she loved and cared about the most as they were the only people who knew her to be alive or cared that she was.
“Nearly time to go Cas.” Jeassaho said softly and glanced back at the other women with her. “Just remember that your other half is waiting for you at the end of the journey and you're going to have a huge party to celebrate.” Jeassaho took in the woman before her and smiled taking in how beautiful she looked in the purple dress.
Jasper was already there and wouldn't have missed it for the all of his homeworld. He had searched the replicator database for some time before deciding on a blue and grey herringbone jacket with blue pants and a white turtleneck. It was a wedding and Offerman knew he had to dress up, just how to do that seemed to be an issue. Dressing up wasn't ever his strong suit and trying to get a tie right on a collard shirt wasn't working. Half Windsor, double Windsor, no matter what knot he tried it just didn't look right on him. Jasper thought about wearing a Vulcan style outfit for Cassy, sort of a tribute to her but thought better of it not knowing how well it would go off. Wearing a starfleet dress uniform was also an option but he never liked those things anyway and, after all, he wasn't really starfleet anymore. His black shoes were nearly mirrored he had worked so hard at polishing them. Mabie, he could make up for all his awkward moments by looking acceptable anyway.
Johnathen was standing up in front of the podium from which Reuben would be conducting the wedding services. Looking over at Jasper, his best man, he whispered, "How is it that I'm so nervous, Jas? I mean, we are already bonded, after all."
"Probably because it's a big decision, Johnathen," Jasper chuckled as he looked at his good friend. "You're doing the right thing, so just go with the flow." He smiled broadly at his friend, "Don't worry, you start running I'll catch you and bring you back."
Johnathen chuckled at Jasper's jokes. He was always gpod for that, relaxing a stressful situation with well-placed levity. "Oh, don't worry. I'm not running. I've been waiting a very long time for this day. A brigade of Klingons couldn't pull me away."
The Captain in question was looking around the room, thoroughly confused, he was pretty sure he had never been in the capel before, even finding it amusing that they even had one when most religious institutions had ended so many years ago and no longer on earth played a big a part as they used to once upon a time. He looked up to see Jeassaho slip into the room and found himself grinning like an idiot for a moment before a gentle cough brought him back to his senses.
Johnathen saw how Reuben lit up whenever Jeassaho was near. He truly hoped that they would get together someday. Everyone deserved to find that person who makes them happy. He leaned in and softly cleared his throat. "You ready, Sir?" Johnathen leaned in and asked quietly.
"I've never done a wedding ceremony before." He admitted wishing Uhin would have taken the honour but the pair had been insistent that it was him doing it. The man was dressed for the occasion in a suit and looked completely different from his usual leather jacket and black tee style.
Lhaes had opted to wear his old dress whites, though he chose to leave his old rank insignia off. After all he was posing as a civilian now, so his pips weren't exactly needed. He walked up to Jonathen and Rueben, overhearing part of the conversation. "It's not that difficult captain, just use the old standard lines unless the happy couple has requested something different. Can't go wrong with traditional though."
He smiled at Jonathen. "The question is....are you ready?"
Smiling warmly, Johnathen seemed to swell slightly with happiness. "I am, Doc. As I was just saying to Jasper, I've been wanting to do this since the late 2240's," he chuckled at his own statement. "There aren't many who can say they have waited as long.
"It's about time," Jasper teased.
Mazzin stepped through the doors wearing a simple pink dress with blue flowers on it, with matching heels. She had never been to a wedding before, and the concept of marriage baffled her a little, she'd never met anyone married before, but she'd been invited, and she wanted to impress her new employers and co-workers. A bit of research showed that a nice dress was appropriate for the guest of weddings, normally something happy, that spoke of new beginnings. She glanced around taking in the new surroundings and smiled.
Tucker wasn't exactly excited to attend a wedding, but it was a new assignment and he was interested in leaving a good impression on his new shipmates. He was a bit jaded on the subject, but marriage wasn't something he cared for anymore. He'd dressed in a nice pair of pants, dress shoes, a white button up shirt and a suit coat to go over top of it. He found a place to sit near the back and settled in.
Deacon ran down the corridor, not wanting to be late. He'd been working in the machine shop through the night to finish the package he had in his hands, as the half dozen fresh burns on his hands attested to. He stopped short of the chapel door and carefully buttoned up his bright red ankara jacket hoping the rigellian formal wear didn't look to out of place. Taking a deep breath he entered looking around for a place to sit.
A strange quiet came over the room as some music started to play and Cassie appeared in the doorway. Her outfit for the day was a beautiful deep purple dress with short sleeves. Her hair was piled up in a hairstyle that looked almost ornate and something Cassie wouldn't have normally worn at all. The hybrid looked through the crowds until she saw the man she was looking for and smiled, all her nerves suddenly gone. She slowly started to make her way through the small chapel.
Hearing the music, Johnathen stood up straighter, then turned towards the chapel entrance. His heart skipped a beat when his eyes landed on the beautiful woman walking up the aisle towards him. Cassie was absolutely breathtaking, and the rest of world seemed to fade away until there was just her. He could feel the huge smile spread across his face, the closer she got to him.
Jasper grinned and looked over at his groom friend. It was exciting even if it wasn't his own wedding and, with Johnathen taking his own chances might be that much better. The last point seemed more like a wish than a reality seeing how many more eligible men the women wanted to chance.
Cassie stopped a few steps from her future husband and handed her flowers to Jeassaho before she took the last few steps to Johnathen and took his hand without a second thought. "Hello..." She whispered in Vulcan to him ignoring the rest of the room.
Having stepped over to the side, Lhaes drew in a sharp breath as he watched Cassie walk down the path. She was breathtaking and utterly gorgeous and he could see why Jonathen was eager to call her his wife. Realizing he was staring, the Romulan forced himself to look away and instead focused on modulating his breathing into something resembling normal.
"Relax Johnathen," Jasper whispered reassuringly to his friend. He smiled broadly and raised an eyebrow, "you got this." Offerman drew in a breath and held his hands in front of him trying to look more confident than he really was in his abilities as a best man.
Johnathen didn't hear Jasper. He didn't see the doctor enter late. The only thing that existed in his universe at that moment, was Cassie. "Beloved," he replied flawlessly, in the dialect and accent of the region of Vulcan from where she was raised. He relished the warmth of her skin as he held her hand in his.
Turning to stand next to Cassie, Johnathen took his eyes off of her long enough to nod to Reuben, indicating that he should begin the ceremony.
Reuben smiled at the pair in a characteristic way as he saw the genuine love the pair had for each other, it was pure and at that moments no one else existed for them.
"It is my great joy and privilege that you have all come here today. There are few duties that a Commanding Officer of any type of vessel cherishes more than something like this." He put his hand on his heart and nodded at Johnathen. he might be nervous but he was proud especially when he had offered Uhin instead. "Both these people that stand in front of us today have weathered so much together more than any of us could imagine and yet they are determined that their paths that had led them here alone are forever going to be joined together. They've written there own vows so I will let them carry things on."
Johnathen turned back to Cassie, taking both of her hands into his. "Cassie McAvoy, since the first day that we met, I knew you special. During our time at the Academy, I found out just how special you were. You light up any room that you're in, simply by walking into it. Through your friendship, at first, then love, I became the man I am today. And while there have been many roadblocks in our path, we have overcome each one together." Releasing his hold on her right hand, Johnathen turn back slightly, towards Jasper, and held out his hand for the ring he had asked his friend to hold.
His best man produced the ring with ease and placed it snugly in the groom's palm. Jasper didn't say a word and waited until he was sure Johnathen had a good grasp if the item before letting go.
Smiling as he took the ring, Johnathen turned back to face his bride to be. Holding up the ring for her to see it, he continued. "This ring has been in my family for generations. I brought it aboard the Ishimura shortly before we went into the transporter. I had secreted it away in a hidden safe that I jad built into tge back of the dresser in my old quarters. As soon as I was able, I went back down to my old quarters, and there ir was, in the same place that I had left it. So, for as long as I have waited to give this to you, it has waited for you. Today, when I finally put it on your finger, we will no longer be two hearts, two souls. We will be one, now and forever."
The woman felt tears on her cheek but did nothing to stop them, as they were of happiness. “Nath, six years ago, you captured my heart by being exactly who you are. The sweetest, most loving, compassionate, and sensitive person I have ever known, the same man in front of me now. You have been my very best friend through the good and the bad. You have been the reason that I smile and you have given comfort beyond measure when I have cried. You have believed in me when no one else would, and you have shown me how to love with passion, purity, and unconditional acceptance.” It was the truth to her and that part could never be taken away. He had shown her how to love when she had lost everyone who could show her the right way. She glanced back at Jeassaho and took the ring from her and did the same to him as he had to her.
“I didn’t have a ring as it isn’t my culture to exchange rings, but, I do have friends who can make things out of love and friendship in such strong material that it can never be undone. I'm not sure a lifetime is long enough to return all you have given to me, but I promise the rest of my days I'll spend by your side. Together we are better than we could ever hope to be alone, and today I give you my love, my trust, and my loyalty forever. You will ALWAYS be the best part of my day.”
Johnathen's eyes were starting to fill with tears, caused by the absolutely beautiful words that Cassie had just said to him. He knew, right then and there, that he was the luckiest man alive.
Taking a deep breath, he glanced towards Reuben, to continue.
Reuben nodded, smiling warmly at the young (physically) couple. "Cassie, Johnathen, you will now place the ring on the other's finger and repeat after me. Cassie, you first." He waited until the woman was ready smiling at the normally composed woman as she took in a deep breath. "Johnathen, with this ring, I thee wed."
Cassie, smiling brightly through happy tears, slid the ring onto Johnathen's left-hand ring finger, as she repeated, "Johnathen, with this ring, I thee wed." She gave his hand a loving squeeze and then got ready for her ring.
Rebun nodded slightly, then turned to Johnathen. "Johnathen, your turn. "Cassie, with this ring, I thee wed."
Johnathen was doing his best to hold his excitement inside. Though they were already bonded, he was overjoyed that they were about to be much more. "Cassie," he started, as he carefully slid the delicate diamond ring onto her slender finger. "With this ring, I thee wed." Once done, the couple held each other's left hand and looked back at Reuben.
Reuben looked at the pair and just smiled. "Anything I say now would be insignificant apart from the power invested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife." He said simply taking a step back unable to stop smiling.
The happy couple looked back at each other and shared their first kiss as husband and wife.
Jasper's face looked like it was about to break with how big his smile was. He started to clap until his hands turned red and stung. These were two of his old friends, two that had shared the experience of being trapped in the transporter for so long, and they were now going to be able to build their lives together.
